CIRCLE TIME IN PRE-SCHOOL : A qualitative study about norms and rules at the planned circle time in pre-school (English)
Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
The aim of this study is to examine how pre-school teachers communicate norms and rules to children's group at the planned circle time in preschool. The study has been based from Lena Rubinstein Reich's (1993) thesis on the circle time in preschool. Based on video observations of planned circle times and interviews in the form of stimulated recall, it turns out that the circle time has changed a lot since Rubinstein Reich's thesis. The result shows that pre-school teachers use different approaches when it comes to structure and content. One of the preschools has circle times where the children themselves choose whether to participate or not. The other observed preschool has circle time where kids instead participate and follow the instructions given. The result also shows that the number of adults present varies between pre-schools. The study shows that the norms and rules regarding turn-taking and to sit in their seats exist in varying degrees at the circle times.
