Abstract [en]

The focus of the thesis is to see what the function and characteristics of the protagonist is within western RPG versus eastern JRPG. To do this analysis three games were chosen, one western RPG and two Eastern JRPG’s, and then after analysing which storytelling elements they focus on. An analysis of the protagonists was made. The study ends up showing that there are differences between which characteristics that the protagonists and what functions they end up having within the games and while initial insight gives suggestions that it may come from cultural differences, further research is needed to gain further insight into why.
