Development of a washing chute in stainless steel for the optimization of its manufacturing process (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This project investigates whether it is possible to streamline the manufacturing process of the FURO 411 washing chute without compromising its “exclusive” appearance. The work is carried out in collaboration with Furhoffs Rostfria AB, with the primary goal of reducing both manufacturing time and cost. To achieve this, information was gathered from literature, observations, and interviews. Subsequently, own ideas were explored using various ideation methods and prototypes. The most promising ideas were summarized in the form of three stainless steel prototypes, allowing for both manufacturing and functional testing. Based on the results a final model was developed and optimized to meet all of the requirements, primarily for the manufacturer but also for other stakeholders such as users, cleaners, and installers. With the help of manufacturing tests and a technician from the company, a cost analysis was conducted to calculate the new production time and associated costs. The project resulted in a time reduction of 28% and a cost reduction of 22%. The main reason for this improvement was the angled edges of the washing chute, which allowed the welding operator to eliminate a time-consuming step from the previous manufacturing process.
