Discovering Medieval Bohemia: Historical Curiosity and Research in Kingdom Come: Deliverance
University of Skövde, School of Informatics.
2025 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

This thesis explores how historical games stimulate players’ curiosity, encouraging research both within and beyond the game itself. Kingdom Come: Deliverance serves as the primary case study, as it portrays a widely popular historical period being set in a lesser-known region for most players. While the game is praised for its historical accuracy, research on historical games’ learning outcomes remains limited. By examining player engagement with historical elements, this study seeks to understand how in-game experiences foster external curiosity. The findings will contribute to broader discussions on the role of video games in fostering historical awareness and informal learning.
