The different roles in bullying – adults about being bullied or witnesses to bullying as children (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Bullying is and has been a problem among children for several generations. Bullying is more than a situation where one person is bad towards another, it is a situation with several people and roles that more or less participate in the behavior. Two of those roles are the one who is being bullied and those who witness the bullying, who see the actions and who participate in it by intervening or not intervening. The purpose of this study is to study how adults who have been bullied or witnessed bullying as children view bullying and the roles that they and others take in those situations. In six semi-structured interviews with three people who have been bullied as children and three people who have witnessed bullying as children, information was obtained that was then viewed in relation to three concepts and two theories. The results showed that people who have taken a role in bullying as children see bullying as several different situations and actions that together become a problem. Respondents shared a view of bullying as a situation with multiple roles and choices and the main reason for people's choices in those situations was what consequences they could get, for example, people did not intervene in bullying because they did not want to take the consequences of it.
