Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Självskadebeteende hos barn blir allt vanligare i samhället och tros öka ytterligare i framtiden. Ett försämrat psykiskt mående, nedsatt framtidstro och ångest är faktorer som riskerar att utlösa ett självskadebeteende hos barn. Att uppmärksamma, identifiera, utbilda och erbjuda insatser till barn med självskadebeteende är en del av skolsköterskans hälsofrämjande omvårdnadsarbete. Samverkan med elevhälsan, kollegor och externa verksamheter ökar möjligheterna för att barnet erbjuds tidiga insatser.

Syfte: Syftet med intervjustudien var att beskriva skolsköterskors erfarenheter av att arbeta med barn som har ett självskadebeteende.

Metod: Studien har genomförts med en kvalitativ metod och ett induktivt förhållningssätt. Datainsamlingen skedde genom semistrukturerade intervjuer där nio yrkesverksamma skolsköterskor deltog. Det insamlade materialet analyserades med hjälp av innehållsanalys.

Resultat: Resultatet utmynnande i fyra huvudkategorier och tretton underkategorier. Resultatet beskriver skolsköterskors erfarenheter av arbetet med självskadebeteende.

Konklusion: Resultatet visade att skolsköterskors förmåga att samverka, kommunicera och utbilda har betydelse i det förebyggande arbetet mot självskadebeteende hos barn. Kommunikation lyfts som ett värdefullt redskap för att stärka barns friskhetsfaktorer och förebygga utvecklingen till ett omfattande självskadebeteende.

Abstract [en]

Background: Self-harm behavior among children is becoming increasingly common in society and is believed to rise further in the future. Deteriorating mental health, diminished hope for the future, and anxiety are factors that risk triggering self-harming behavior in children. Recognizing, identifying, educating, and providing interventions for children who have a self-harm behavior are part of the school nurse's health-promoting care work. Collaboration with student health services, colleagues, and external organizations enhances the chances of providing early interventions for the child.

Aim: The purpose of the interview study was to describe school nurses' experiences of working with children who engage in self-harm behavior.

Method: The study was conducted using a qualitative method and an inductive approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with nine practicing school nurses. The collected material was analyzed using content analysis.

Findings: The results culminated in four main categories and thirteen subcategories. The findings describe school nurses' experiences in working with self-harm behavior.

Conclusion: The results show that school nurses' ability to collaborate, communicate, and educate is important in the preventive work against self-harm behaviors among children. Communication is emphasized as a valuable tool to strengthen children's protective factors and prevent the development of extensive self-harm behaviors.
