Factors that influence healthcare professionals’ experiences of electronic health records (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Introduction: Electronic Health Records, a central component of eHealth, aim to improve healthcare and contribute to better health for the entire population. Healthcare professionals' experiences are crucial for how well these systems work in practice, both ensuring quality and promoting sustainable digitalization in healthcare. Objective: The purpose of the study was to investigate which factors influence healthcare professionals' experiences of digital medical record systems in healthcare. Method: A scoping review that included 23 primarily qualitative studies. The material was obtained from PubMed, CINAHL, Web of science and Medline. Inductive thematic analysis was carried out and the results were discussed based on theoretical frameworks: Technology Acceptance Model. Results: Four main themes were identified: technical factors, impact on work processes, attitudes and motivation, and organizational and structural aspects. Conclusion: In summary, the results showed that several factors influence healthcare professionals' experiences of Electronic Health Records such as user-friendliness, digital competence, access to training and supportive organizational structures. At the same time, knowledge gaps were identified regarding how digitalization affects specific healthcare environments and within the context of limited digital infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries.
