Bakgrund: Leukemi är den vanligaste cancerformen hos barn. Cirka 400 000 barn i världen drabbas av cancer varav 90% av barnen diagnosticeras med akut lymfatisk leukemi. Diagnosen innebär många invasiva undersökningar och starka behandlingar vilket kan pågå upp till två års tid.

Syfte: Syftet med studien var att beskriva familjers erfarenheter av att leva med barn som drabbats av leukemi.

Metod: Integrerad sammanställning av kvalitativ forskning med 13 artiklar. Artiklarna analyserades med Fribergs femstegsmodell.

Resultat: I resultatet fram kom tva teman, Tiden efter diagnos och Hantering av sjukdomsbördan med fem underteman, Kaos i samband med diagnos, Förändrad tillvaro, Dölja diagnos och strävan efter det normala, Behov av stöd och Sjukvårdens betydelse. Temat “tiden efter diagnos beskriver för sta tiden efter barnets insjuknande och dess emotionella p å verkan samt den förändrade tillvaron familjer upplevde. Temat Hantera sjukdomsbördan beskriver familjers sätt att hantera sjukdomen samt deras behov av stöd i olika former.

Konklusion Diagnosen medför förändringar i familjens liv och vardag och har en genomgripande på verkan på hela familjen. De centrala känslor som lyftes fram i resultatet var rädsla för att förlora barnet, oro och ångest för framtiden, ensamhet samt hjälplöshet. Familjen befinner sig i stort behov av stöd under hela sjukdomsprocessen.

Background: Leukemia is the most common form of cancer in children. Approximately 400,000 children worldwide are affected by cancer, of which 90% consists of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The diagnosis involves many invasive examinations and intense treatments, which can last up to two years. 

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe families ’experiences of living with children affected by leukemia. 

Method: Integrative literature review of 13 articles. The articles were analyzed using Fribergs five step model. 

Findings: In the results, two themes emerged: The time after diagnosis and Managing the disease burden, with four sub themes: Chaos associated with diagnosis, Changed existence, Concealing the diagnosis and striving for normalcy, Need for support, and The importance of healthcare. The theme "time after diagnosis" describes the initial period following the child's illness onset and its emotional impact, as well as the changed circumstances families experienced. The theme "managing the disease burden" describes families' ways of coping with the illness and their need for support in various forms 

Conclusion: The diagnosis brings about changes in the family’s life and daily routine, and has a profound impact on the entire family. The central emotions highlighted in the results were fear of losing the child, worry and anxiety about the future, loneliness, and helplessness. The family is in great need of support throughout the entire disease process
