Abstract [en]

This study examines the design trends and motivations behind male protagonists in Chinese otome games, which are romantic narratives targeting a female audience. The research investigates whether these characters share similar settings and explores the reasons behind these design choices from developers' and players' perspectives. This study offers insights into the relationship between character design and player engagement in Chinese otome games, providing valuable guidance for game developers on creating compelling romantic narratives that resonate with female players.
