Bakgrund: Bakgrunden bearbetar grundläggande information om vad Diabetes Mellitus typ 2 innebär och vad för behandling kan vara aktuell. Information kring omvårdnads teoretikern Dorothea Orem behandlas och hur denna kan relatera till personcentrerad vård. Även information om hur patienter upplever denna teori och vad deras pedagogiska behov består av.

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att belysa patientperspektivet av egenvård för Diabetes Mellitus typ 2.

Metod: Metoden för denna studie är en litteraturöversikt med inriktning på kvalitativa artiklar och induktiv ansats. Analysen utförts med hjälp av Fribergs analys i fyra steg för att bygga resultatet av studien.

Resultat: Resultatet av detta arbete producerade fyra teman: ”Känslor”, ”Patientens delaktighet” och ”Hur patienterna upplever stöd” och ” kunskap” med relaterade undertema: ”Individuella aspekter”. Dessa teman bearbetar patientperspektivet av Diabetes Mellitus typ 2 och egenvård.

Konklusion: I denna litteraturöversikt framkom insikter kring patienters erfarenheter och deras egenvård vid Diabetes Mellitus typ 2. Det var framträdande hur kritiskt det är för patienter att uppleva stöd i deras egenvårdsåtgärder samt betydelsen av att utveckla kunskap på olika sätt hos individen.

Information about the nursing theorist Dorothea Orem is treated and how this can relate to patient-centred care. The author also processed information about how patients experience this theory and their educational needs. 

Aim: This study highlights the patient perspective of self-care for Diabetes Mellitus type 2. 

Method: The method for this study is a literature review focusing on qualitative articles and an inductive approach. The analysis was conducted using Friberg's analysis in four steps to build the study results. 

Findings: The result of this work produced four themes: "Feelings", "Patient participation" and "How patients experience support" and "knowledge" with a related subtheme: "Individual aspects". These themes process the patient's perspective of Diabetes Mellitus type 2 and self-care. 

Conclusion: In this literature review, insights emerged regarding patients' experiences regarding their self-care for Diabetes Mellitus type 2. It was prominent how critical it is for patients to experience support in their self-care measures and the importance of developing knowledge in diverse ways in the individual.
