”Charisma´s chance at survival in a bureaucratic organization” (English)
Abstract [sv]

Ledarskap är något man finner inom nästan alla organisationer, varje ledare har sin unika kompott av egenskaper som definierar sin ledarstil. Karisma har ansetts vara en av de positiva attributen hos en ledare, där styrkan har varit att medarbetare upplever en emotionell relation till sin ledare, vilket enligt teorin har varit betydande för organisationens framgång. Men hur ser detta ut när det karismatiska ledarskapet identifieras i en organisation som inte faller typiskt för karisman? Med hjälp av en kvalitativ metod i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer har studien därför valt att undersöka karisma i en organisation som inte faller naturligt för det karismatiska ledarskapet, vilket blev den byråkratiska organisationen. Detta valdes att studera för att se om det fanns en chans till karismans överlevnad ur ett långsiktigt perspektiv.

Studien har valt att intervjua ledare men även medarbetare för att få en bekräftande eller motsägande bild till vad ledarna hävdar om sitt ledarskap, för att inte riskera att resultatet blir lidande i form av självgoda ledare. Studien landade i ett resultat, baserat på de olika respondenternas synpunkter, i att karisman har en minimal chans till överlevnad i en byråkratins kontext då byråkratins struktur tar över karismans attribut i slutändan.

Abstract [en]

Leadership is something you can find in almost every organization, every leader has their unique set of characteristics that define their leadership style. Charisma has been considered as one of the positive attributes of a leader, where the strength has been that the worker experiences an emotional relationship with their leader, which according to theory have been important for the organization's success. But how does this look when the charismatic leadership is identified in an organization that does not fall typical for charisma? With the help of using a qualitative method in a form of semi-structured interviews, the study therefore chose to examine charisma in an organization that does not fall typical for the charismatic leadership, which was the bureaucratic organization. This was chosen to examine to see if there was a chance for charisma to survive in a long time perspective. 

The study has chosen to interview leaders but also workers to get a confirming or a contradictory picture to what the leaders are claiming of their leadership, in order to not risk that the results suffer in the form of self-righteous leaders. The study landed in a result, based on the respondents point of views, that charisma has a minimal chance for survival in a bureaucratic context since the structure of the bureaucratic organization overpowers the charismatic attributes in the end.
