Development of a laptop-support : To increase flexibility in the workplace (English)
Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
The degree project concerns the development of a portable laptop support for people who work in an open office landscape with the desire to work in environments other than at the desk. Through literature studies, ergonomic factors were investigated such as how people are affected by long periods of a sedentary lifestyle and how a laptop support could be manufactured in a sustainable way without negatively affecting the environment. Through material studies, different materials such as laminate, veneer and poplar were explored and a greater understanding of the various properties of the materials was created. To collect qualitative and quantitative information about the user needs, interviews and questionnaires were carried out. Observations were also made to investigate the design language of existing interior design in open office landscapes. At the same time as the interviews were planned, a market analysis was made to create an idea of already existing products on the market, a way to also get inspiration for which variant of support the work should be aimed at. Based on behaviour patterns that were identified during the preliminary study, scenarios were created with fictitious people from the target group, both with frustrations at the desk and with access to the laptop support. Collected information was compiled and documented in a requirements specification and a moodboard. In the concept generation, several ideas were created through the methods of brainstorming, thumbnail sketching and brainwriting 6-3-5, the ideas were then sorted using affinity diagrams. During the work, the method DFMA (Design For Manufacturing and Assembly) was used with the aim of reducing components, costs, processing and assembly steps. Through the morphological matrix, a total of 12 concept proposals were generated. The concepts were evaluated with PNI analysis and taken further to the concept weighting matrix, where a final concept was selected. A full-scale functional model of the concept was produced and evaluated through tests with users. The work also includes calculations and analyses of waste material, costs and ergonomics. The laptop support was further developed into a final alpha prototype of the material that SA Möbler AB uses in its existing production. Tests showed that the majority of users from the target group, with access to the laptop support, would be encouraged to sit in places other than at the desk.
