This thesis begins with a look into concept albums, specifically previous research and work by scholars; what ground-work exists and how are concept albums defined? Here, it is established that there is a strong connection between concept albums and transmediality. As part of this, narratology, both in general and in music especially, is also taken into account. What is a narrative, and how have narratives been analysed by other scholars? The main question that arose based on the literature review is if the concept album concept is evolving into something larger, in this case into ‘concept bands’. This, along with other points raised in the literature review works as the basis for the main problems and research questions for this thesis. To help answer the research questions, a methodology and framework was created to help with the analysis of a proposed ‘concept band’: Sleep Token. The analysis takes an in-depth look at Sleep Token’s whole discography to try and answer the research question. This is then discussed, based on the results, ethical considerations and future work.
