Bakgrund: Obesitas är ett växande folkhälsoproblem och en kronisk sjukdom som kan få allvarliga konsekvenser däribland hjärt-kärlsjukdomar, stroke och diabetes mellitus typ 2. Patienter med obesitas upplever ofta skuld och skam och att de på förhand blir dömda av hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal på grund av sin sjukdom. Det finns olika typer av vård att få vid obesitas där sjuksköterskans roll och hälsofrämjande arbete är centralt. Syfte: Att belysa hur sjuksköterskan ger stöd till vuxna patienter med obesitas inom öppenvården. Metod: Studien genomfördes som en allmän litteraturöversikt baserad på elva vetenskapliga artiklar varav åtta kvalitativa och tre kvantitativa studier inkluderades. Resultat: Tre teman identifieras: att närma sig ett känsligt ämne, ett komplext arbete att möta patienter med obesitas samt barriärer för en god obesitasvård. Sjuksköterskans roll i mötet med patienter med obesitas är mångfacetterad och påverkas av sjuksköterskans förmåga att skapa en förtroendefull relation där kommunikationen anpassas väl. Konklusion: Sjuksköterskans stödjande arbete vid obesitas är komplext. Fördelaktigt i arbetet framstår ett personcentrerat arbetssätt, att se hela patienten och förmågan att motivera patienten.

Background: Obesity is a growing public health problem and a chronic condition that can have serious consequences, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Patients with obesity often experience guilt and shame and feel prematurely judged by healthcare professionals because of their condition. There are various types of care available for obesity, in which the nurses' role and health promotion efforts are central. Purpose: To examine how nurses provide support to adult patients with obesity in outpatient care. Method: The study was conducted as a general literature review based on eleven scientific articles, including eight qualitative and three quantitative studies. Results: Three themes have been identified: approaching a sensitive topic, the complex task of caring for patients with obesity, and barriers to effective obesity care. The nurse's role in encounters with patients with obesity is multifaceted and influenced by the nurse's ability to establish a trusting relationship in which communication is well adapted. Conclusion: The nurse's supportive role in the management of obesity is complex. A person-centered approach, seeing the patient as a whole, and the ability to motivate the patient are particularly beneficial in this work.
