Bakgrund: Övervikt och obesitas är ett globalt hälsoproblem som bland annat kan leda till hjärt- och kärlsjukdomar, försämrad lungfunktion och diabetes typ 2. Övervikt och obesitas kan behandlas med hjälp av medicinering, kirurgi och egenvård som motion och kost. Patienter med övervikt upplever i många fall stigmatisering inom hälso-och sjukvården. Sjuksköterskans profession har ett ansvar i att främja hälsa och välbefinnande, förebygga sjukdom och lindra lidande. Syfte: Var att belysa hur patienter med övervikt eller obesitas upplever bemötandet från sjuksköterskor och vårdpersonal inom hälso-och sjukvården. Metod: Metoden som valdes är en integrerande sammanställning av kvalitativ forskning inspirerad av metasyntes, baserat på 12 vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultat: Resultatet visade att patienter med övervikt och obesitas upplever vårdmötet både begränsande och stödjande. Begränsande erfarenheter präglas av fokus på kroppsvikt och känslor av skuldbeläggning medan stödjande erfarenheter kännetecknas av att bli lyssnad på och bemött med respekt och empati. Konklusion: Patienter med övervikt och obesitas upplever bemötandet i hälso- och sjukvården som avgörande för delaktighet, värdighet samt trygghet. Ett lyhört och respektfullt bemötande stärker tilliten, medan stigmatiserande bemötande med fokus på kroppsvikten eller upplevelser av skuldbeläggning, kan påverka viljan att söka vård.

Background: Overweight and obesity are global health problems that can lead to health complications, including cardiovascular diseases, impaired lung function, and type 2 diabetes. Overweight and obesity can be treated through medication, surgery, and self-care measures such as physical activity and diet. Patients with overweight or obesity often experience stigmatization within healthcare settings. The nursing profession has a responsibility to promote health and well-being, prevent illness, and alleviate suffering. Aim: To highlight how patients who are overweight or obese experience the treatment they receive from nurses and healthcare professionals within the healthcare system. Method: The chosen method was an integrated synthesis of qualitative research inspired by meta-synthesis, based on 12 scientific articles. Findings: The results showed that patients who are overweight or obese experience the care encounter as both limiting and supportive. Limiting experiences are characterized by a focus on body weight and feelings of guilt, while supportive experiences are characterized by being listened to and treated with respect and empathy. Conclusion: Patients who are overweight or obese perceive the way they are treated in healthcare as crucial to their participation, dignity and sense of security. A responsive and respectful approach strengthens trust, while stigmatizing treatment that focuses on the body weight or feeling or guilt can affect the willingness to seek care.
