The school nurse’s health promotion care : Yoga as an intervention to reduce stress among students – A literature review study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Stress-related issues among children and adolescents are an increasing concern in school environments. Yoga, combining movement, breathing, and mindfulness has gained attention as a potential health-promoting nursing intervention.

Aim: To explore the effects of yoga on students’ stress.

Method: A systematic integrative literature review based on eight quantitative articles, three qualitative articles, and one article containing both qualitative and quantitative data. The systematic process was conducted according to Polit and Beck’s (2021) ninestepmodel, and the collected material was analyzed thematically using an inductive approach.

Findings: The analysis resulted in four themes describing the influence of yoga on students’ stress: yoga as a stress-reducing intervention, improved emotion regulation through yoga, yoga and increased attention, cognitive ability and reduced performance anxiety among students.

Conclusion: Yoga can support students' mental health and learning by reducing stress.
