Bakgrund: Humant papillomvirus (HPV) är ett vanligt artspecifikt virus som kan drabba sexuellt aktiva människor. I de flesta fall är viruset självläkande men kan i vissa fall orsaka cellförändringar. Symtom som smärta kan innebära både kroppsligt och själsligt lidande för den drabbade. Människor är unika och deras behov vid sjukdom och lidande kan därför skilja sig åt. Genom personcentrerad vård och god kommunikation kan sjuksköterskor möta varje patient utifrån dess individuella förutsättningar och på så vis minska deras lidande.

Syfte: Att undersöka vilka faktorer som påverkar kvinnors erfarenheter av att drabbas av en HPV-infektion.

Metod: En integrerad sammanställning av kvalitativ forskning baserad på 11 kvalitativa artiklar som har genomgått kvalitetsgranskning och analys. 

Resultat: I analysen identifierades två teman med sex tillhörande underteman som tillsammans beskriver de faktorer som påverkar kvinnornas erfarenheter av att drabbas av en HPV-infektion. Tema Emotionellt svar på diagnosen består av följande underteman: Diagnostillfällets betydelse, Oro och stigmatisering och Omgivningens betydelse. Tema Information och stöd från vården består av följande underteman: Informationsmetod vid diagnostisering, Betydelsen av diagnosens komplexitet och Betydelsen av vårdgivarens bemötande.

Konklusion: Ett positivt svar som påvisar en HPV-infektion, kan påverka den psykiska hälsan och livskvalitén hos den drabbade. Det är essentiellt att sjuksköterskor har god förmåga att förmedla kunskap och kan hantera de emotionella reaktioner som uppstår hos de kvinnor som drabbas.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common species-specific virus which can affect sexually active people. In most cases the virus is self-healing, but in some cases, it can cause cell changes. Symptoms such as pain can cause both physical and mental suffering forthe affected person. People are unique and their needs in the event of illness and suffering can therefore differ. Through person-centered care and good communication, nurses can meet each patient based on their individual circumstances and thus reduce their suffering.

Aim: To investigate which factors, influence women's experiences of contracting an HPV infection.

Method: An integrated compilation of qualitative research based on 11 qualitative articles that have undergone quality reviews and analyses.

Findings: The analysis identified two themes with six associated subthemes that together describes the factors that influence women's experiences of being infected by HPV. The theme Emotional response to diagnosis consists of the following subthemes: The importance of the diagnosis, Concern and stigmatization, and The importance of the environment. The theme information and support from healthcare consists of the following subthemes: Information method during diagnosis, The importance of the complexity of the diagnosis, and The importance of the healthcare provider´s response.

Conclusion: Being infected with HPV can affect mental health and quality of life. It is essential that nurses have good skills in conveying knowledge and can manage the emotional reactions that arise in women who are affected.
