Bakgrund: Kvinnor med BRCA1- eller BRCA2-mutation har en ökad risk för bröst- och äggstockscancer, vilket innebär en komplex vägledning av sjuksköterskan i medicinska och emotionella beslut för kvinnan. Förståelse för deras erfarenheter är viktig för att förbättra vård och stöd.

Syfte: Syftet med studien är att belysa kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med en BRCA-mutation.

Metod: Genomfördes som en integrerande litteraturöversikt av kvalitativ forskning, inspirerad av Fribergs femstegsmetod.

Resultat: Resultatet visade att kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med en BRCA-mutation präglades av oro och ansvar, förändrad kroppslig identitet och behov av förståelse. Tillgång till stöd och korrekt information var avgörande, medan fragmenterad vård bidrog till en komplex bild av att leva med genetisk risk, där känslor av kontroll blandades med osäkerhet.

Konklusion: För att hantera den existentiella osäkerheten har vården ett stort ansvar att ge tydlig och individanpassad information som hjälper kvinnan att omvandla information till kunskap. En personcentrerad och lyhörd vård, med respekt för kvinnans självbestämmande, är därför avgörande för att främja trygghet, meningsskapande och egenmakt i mötet med kvinnor som bär på BRCA-mutation.

Background: Women with BRCA1- or BRCA2-mutations have an increased risk of breast- and ovarian cancer, which involves complex guidance by the nurse in medical and emotional decisions for the woman. Understanding their experiences is important for improving care and support.

Aim: The aim of this study is to shed light on women´s experiences of living with a BRCA-mutation.

Method: Conducted as an integrative literature review of qualitative research, inspired by Friberg´s five-step method.

Findings: The results showed that women´s experiences of living with a BRCA-mutation were characterized by worry and responsibility, altered bodily identity and a need for understanding. Access to support and accurate information was crucial, while fragmented care contributed to a complex picture of living with a genetic, where feelings of control were mixed with uncertainty.

Conclusion: To manage existential uncertainty, healthcare has a great responsibility to provide clear and individualized information that helps women transform information into knowledge. Person-centered and responsive care, with respect for the woman’s autonomy, is therefore crucial to promoting a sense of security, meaning, and empowerment in encounters with women carrying a BRCA-mutation.
