The effect of meditation on collaboration : An experimental study among students (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

How individuals ability to collaborate in groups can be strengthened is a central issue in work environments where cooperation is in focus. Increased workload can negatively affect interactions, highlighting the relevance of identifying interventions that promote collaboration. This study examines how a 15-minute meditation intervention affects university students’ perceived ability to collaborate, using a social psychological perspective as its theoretical foundation. The study employs a mixedmethods approach, with an experiment in which data was collected using questionnaires. Initially, the study aimed to recruit 60 respondents for the experiment but ultimately recruited 36. To ensure the empirical grounding and validity of the quantitative data, 6 semi-structured interviews were conducted using an emergent design. The results indicate, through statistical tests supported by interviews, that the meditation intervention influenced participants’ sense of calm and ability to collaborate. The explanatory theoretical frameworks used to interpret the results were social interdependence theory and mindfulness-to-meaning theory. Furthermore, the study highlights how different personality types may influence the outcome, which was explained using the Five-Factor Model of personality.
