Knowledge Waste & Knowledge Loss: What is it All About?2016In: Navus Revista de Gestão e Tecnologia, ISSN 2237-4558, Vol. 6, no 4, p. 38-57Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper we are interested in developing an understanding of the concepts of knowledge waste and knowledge loss. The latter can in the worst case lead to "a decreased capacity for effective action or decision making in a specific organizational context" (DeLong, 2004, p. 21). Whereas knowledge waste means that companies are not using the full capacity of existing knowledge. As outlined by Ferenhof (2011) it is any failure in the process of knowledge conversion. These definitions imply differences between the concepts, the literature however suggests that many authors uses them interchangeably. Is that correct? Are the concepts important, of relevance? The present article's aim is to highlight the importance of having better insights into the concepts. The authors believe that both theory and corporate practice will benefit from an improved understanding.

Knowledge waste in organizations: A review of previous studies2015In: Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management, ISSN 1679-8171, Vol. 12, no 1, p. 160-178Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper, we are interested in the knowledge that is “wasted” in organizations, that is existing relevant knowledge that is overlooked in the process of knowledge conversion. Given the competitive pressure firms are facing in today´s business environment, a waste of knowledge is not only costly but also dangerous. This means that we consider knowledge from a knowledge at risk perspective. Having this in mind, the purpose of this paper is to review research on knowledge waste in organizations to establish our current body of knowledge regarding this topic. The study consists of a systematic review of 51 peer-reviewed articles addressing knowledge waste in organizations. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no systematic literature review on this topic has previously been published or presented. The topic seems to be a promising field for intensive research and offers a variety of future research avenues. In view of practitioners, the study´s finding may enable an increased awareness towards the areas where existing knowledge is at the mercy of “waste”. This can assist practitioners to better cope with risks related to this waste and, therefore, better exploit the (limited) knowledge base available.

Intellectual capital dimensions: state of the art in 20142015In: Journal of Intellectual Capital, ISSN 1469-1930, E-ISSN 1758-7468, Vol. 16, no 1, p. 58-100Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to review extant literature to identify models intended to measure/classify intellectual capital (IC) to establish the current body of knowledge that has been built since the review by Marr et al. (2004).

Design/methodology/approach – The study consists of a systematic review of peer-reviewed articles on IC classification. The review was conducted for the period 2004-2014 in order to reach the aim. To ensure that all major models are included, important works developed prior to 2004 were captured as well.

Findings – The review resulted in 83 additional models indicating continued research activities with regard to the topic. These models were merged with prior IC models and mapped on a timeline. The timeline clarifies that 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 represent the years of greatest research activity (outcomes). Additionally, the analysis of the list of IC frameworks resulted in the development of an IC Meta model. It synthesizes research activities in the field and highlights the main IC dimensions and sub-dimensions.

Research limitations/implications – This study may not have enabled a complete coverage of all existing peer-reviewed articles in the field of IC classification. Yet, it seems reasonable to assume that the review process covered a large proportion of studies available.

Originality/value – By aggregating and consolidating the IC frameworks covered, the study does not only provide an IC Meta model, but also promising directions for future research.

”Såna är dom!”: En socialpsykologisk studie om skillnader mellan unga killars och tjejers stereotypa tänkande och fördomar.2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The way man divides his thoughts and sorts them into different boxes, is a cognitive activity which works alike for every person. We split peoplesexterior attributes and characteristic qualities into stereotypes or prejudicemind patterns and treat them along those.

This study examines through a qualitative method what twelve respondents (six women and six men) between the ages 16-21, think about “intense” conceptions, which may show stereotype or prejudice ways of thinking. There spondents have been chosen regardless ethnic or economic background andare all enrolled in an upper secondary school located centrally in a Swedish big city.

The purpose is to find out if there are any differences between how some young men and some young women spontaneously think in stereotypical orprejudice patterns. The result is interpreted on the basis of the social cognitive perspective and from out of theories about how people create schemes andprototypes to separate individuals and groups from each other.

This study suggests that men more easily express their stereotypes and prejudice, while women more often seem to be careful with their stereotypes and prejudice, and end up redefining them. Further in the discussion, aspects involving how the society, if not becoming aware of stereotypes and prejudice, can affect the people representing those stereotypes.

Arbetsmotivation: Utifrån Nordeas medarbetarperspektiv2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Bakgrund

Worries and possibilities in active citizenship: Three Swedish educational contexts2012In: Education, Citizenship and Social Justice, ISSN 1746-1979, E-ISSN 1746-1987, Vol. 7, no 3, p. 255-270Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article examines how the concept of active citizenship has been given a neo-liberal character by examining practice in three different educational contexts in Sweden. The concept of active citizenship has become influential in educational policy and practice throughout the European Union. The aim of this article is to highlight concerns at how this concept has come to be re-shaped by neo-liberal principles in Swedish education. The analysis highlights three themes, based on voice, ethical awareness and complexity and mutuality of lived experience, and argues that they provide the basis for a shift away from the present neo-liberal colouring of the concept.

    Abstract [en]

During our previous study entitled ”Development or complication? An interactive study of a developing project in a upper secondary school.” (Alexandersson & Carlén, 2007) we noticed the complexity of developing projects. Along with the teachers and school management we decided to follow up their developing project in this study of deeper character. The purpose of the study was to understand what happens in a team work practice related to a developing project focusing on critical aspects that can appear in such a process

Our empirical approach was hermeneutic and our method was action research. We used reflexive interviews which are open and offer flexibility during the interviews. Interpreting and reflection characterized our analysis work

The result indicates several different aspects that effects developing project and we have identified three critical aspects which we find particularly important to take into consideration in developing project.

    • That the organisation prevents the pedagogical attitude.
    • That management by objectives requires transformed leadership.
    • That co-operation and developing project contributes teachers’ critical reflection and power of their domain.

We establish that a common understanding of the mission throughout the school organisation is necessary in order to implement restructuring that renew teaching format require. Another condition for renewed teaching format is to relinquish tasks to make place for new ones.

    Abstract [en]

In this study we investigated girls and boys choices of games and choice of materials as well as different patterns of communication between the sexes. We have observed the children’s choice of play materials and games in preschool. Girls ' and boys' communication between each other were observed in three environments. These three environments comprised a typical girl playroom which included kitchen supplies, dolls and dress up clothes, a typical boy playroom which included building supplies, cars, and toy tools and a neutral room. Based on personal experience, girls often play in the girls’ playroom while boys often choose to play in the construction area. By observing in different environments, we could examine the importance of the environment for girls and boys of communication between each other. The study is based on the social learning theory which argues that children do as we do. That is children have role models and through them learn quickly the meaning of what is considered to be a girl or boy. This result shows that the pre various gender codes of the children's choice of games and materials, and in communication. I could see that the girls and boys often chose to play the same kind of games and play with the same material at the preschool. The boys were playing, however, more violent and played many racing and war games. The girls played more gently and quietly and played more care and beauty games. Despite the fact that both sexes used the same materials you could see clear gender patterns in their behavior. An example of this would be that the girls often shaped clay as pastries and food while the boys often shaped this as balls and old men. The girls also used the very pink, yellow, white and purple colors in their creations while the boys' choice of colors dominated by blue, green, brown and red. One could also see clear patterns of communication between girlsand boys. This is when the children on some occasions discussed the male and female characteristics and behaviors with each other. We have discussed the importance of the environment in children's creation of gender in preschool. Children talk about what's around them and it is important to create an environment where children can get a broader view of masculinity and femininity.

    Abstract [en]

We wanted to find out how the customer wants to be treated by the staff in a clothing store. We have focused on the personal contact between staff and customers. Our report thus focuses not on the physical products but on the staff conduct and behavior towards the customer, based on what it wants. The theory we have used largely reflects how staff should respond, but not how the customer wants to be treated. We decided to find out the customer opinions through a questionnaire survey. To make the report more specific, we also chose to look at the difference between male and female customers. We also studied the difference between age groups of customers from 20 years up to 49 years. To make it easier for the staff to respond to their particular customer group correctly.

    Abstract [en]

In this study, based on a socio-cultural perspective on learning, children’s use of different digital tools in the work with their development with reading and writing will be studied. The purpose of this research is to increase the capability to improve the reading and writing education in kindergarten with the help of different digital tools. The ambition is to, with the help of literature studies and practical work, be able to indicate that the children’s progress in the ability to read and write can be improved by introducing digital tools in the practical work in kindergarten. The overall aim of the study is to contribute to changing the children’s as well as the teachers’ approaches towards digital tools in the work with reading and writing development in kindergarten. A qualitative approach has been used with the help of inspiration from hermeneutics and phenomenography. In this research, nine children are interviewed, and thirty-three participatory observations are conducted during the period of one month. The result shows that every child who takes part in the research uses different kinds of digital tools in the work with reading and writing development. The result also shows that the use of digital tools is useful. Some of the opportunities that can be distinguished with the use of these tools are; language development, reading and writing development, development of motor skills, social skills and analytical skills as well as the development of digital skills. The discussion emphasizes the importance of conscious planning based on curricula, where digital tools are being used to complement the traditional education in kindergarten.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to analyse the significance of the national assessment in highschool education, including what the teachers express about the new instructions currently coming from the Swedish National Agency of Education, concerning a more central control of grading the national assessments. This study also covers the teachers individual responsibility when it comes to grading the national assessments. The purpose of the national assessment is to secure that grading and the education level in the country is equal. This is a qualitative study useing the method of a group discussion intervju (focusgroup intervju). Five highschool teachers took part in the discussion with questions that had been decided beforehand. The aim with this method is to give space for open discussions and reflections within the group. The result of the study shows that the respondants had been influenced by the tention between the new instructions from the Swedish National Agency of Education and the teachers autonomy. The study also elucidates the tendencies that exists in the country of grading too positive. The respondants expressed that they are affected  by the new instructions and that their final grading is controlled by the results from the assessments.

The active instructor: Benefits and barriers to instructor-led serious gaming2015In: VS-Games 2015: 7th International Conference on Games and Virtual Worlds for Serious Applications, IEEE conference proceedings, 2015, p. 8-15Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

While there is a wealth of studies on the subject of serious games, the same cannot be said on the issue of teaching with games, especially in game-based learning settings with adult learners. Over the years, most research in this area has been focused on the ‘active substance(s)’ of games for learning, focusing mainly on characteristics of games, but often failing to take the whole context of game-based learning into consideration, such as the role(s) of the teacher. However, the past two or three years has seen a shift in focus from merely the game as an isolated artefact, to also include more discussions on how games can successfully be integrated into an educational setting, as well as challenges as pitfalls of which instructors need to be aware. This paper aims to outline the contemporary research on instructor-led serious gaming and its implications for the design of serious gaming environments.

Vad händer när man framhäver skillnaderna mellan 2D- och 3D-grafik istället för att dölja dem?: Reflekterande uppsats till examensarbete i medier2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Tillgodoses bankernas informationsbehov genom redovisningsinformation upprättad enligt K2 i kreditbedömningen?2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background and problems: It has been an issue for small- and medium sized companies, as accounting standards that they set up their accounts after having been unnecessarily complicated in compared to the needs of the users of its financial statements. Sweden’s efforts to simplify these accounting standards has among other things, been characterized by easing the work for small- and medium size companies. These efforts were called K-projektet, whose purpose partly has been to meet the needs of users of financial statements. K2 is the simplified rule package aimed at smaller companies. Banks are one of the primary users of small companies’ financial statements. K2 is characterized by simplifications, standardization and less reporting obligation. Since banks are demanding a lot of information at a credit decision of a company to make an informed decision, the questions where as follow To what extant do banks use companies accounting information in credit decision? How do financial statements prepared in K2 framework meet the needs of regarded information in credit decisions?Purpose: We examine how the information needs of banks´ are met at credit decisions based on financial statements prepared in the K2 framework. The study aims to increase the understanding and perception of what banks´ demand in the financial information provided by the entities.Method: In the purpose of this study, we wanted to increase the understanding and perception of the chosen topic. A qualitative method aims to do just that, to obtain a deeper understanding of banks´ information demand for credit. A case study includes a complexity of the investigated object, which our study is characterized by because there are relatively few companies that currently apply the K2 in the preparation of accounting information, hence a case study was chosen. The choice to interview the banks was based on that they are the primary users of financial statements in accordance to the K2-regulation.Conclusion: In credit evaluation, accounting is the primary source of information for banks´. Accounting is never a sufficient basis for credit decision for the bank. They have to obtain further information to make an justified decision. The banks´ own assessment of the company as a whole, are based on both hard and soft information which means that regardless of the regulations a company is incorporated by, the banks own internal assessment if a company will be able to repay the credit they will be granted. The most important quality for the bank is that the financial statements are reflecting the fair value, but since K2 is characterized by simplifications, standard solutions and limited choices it creates fewer opportunities for it.Suggestions for further research: An interesting framework to conduct a similar study on, is the K3-framework, since smaller entities may be able to also establish its own financial statements for these regulations. Today is it voluntary to apply K2 this means that few today have chosen to apply the rules. Establishing a new survey when regulations become mandatory for small companies would be a way to highlight the banks´ direct perception of the rules.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Accounting and corporate scandals that took place in the 2000s in the United States and several European countries took off in the corporate governance debate. Many countries began to adopt rules designed to develop corporate governance and increase confidence in the business world. Sweden suffered like other countries of accounting scandals, and as a result of this came the Swedish Code of Corporate Governance to rebuild market confidence to the Swedish companies. The first of July 2005 the code was applied in the Stockholm Stock Exchange for all companies on the A-list and the O-list with market capitalization exceeding 3 billion i.e. companies included in the Large Cap. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze how companies on the OMX Stockholm Stock Exchange, Large Cap, deviates from the Swedish code and if they deviate from the same points in the code and how thoroughly these companies explains their deviations. I want to get an understanding of why the code exists and why the companies deviate from it and whether the code works as expected. Methodology: To examine the extent to which companies deviate from the code and which points that the companies differ from, I have studied and observed the companies' annual reports and corporate governance reports. Theoretical Framework: In this chapter, I have raised earlier research that deals with other codes and the principle comply or explain, and the reasons why companies choose to follow or deviate from the code. These studies took place in Germany and the UK.7Empirical foundation: The empirical data consists of annual reports and corporate governance reports of the surveyed 28 companies in the Large Cap from both 2010 and 2011. Conclusions: The conclusion of this study is that the ownership structure is a contributing factor to why companies choose to deviate from the code. Companies with a concentrated ownership tend to deviate from the code. I have also noticed that these companies are owned by Industrivärden and Investor. The companies are also characterized by having strong family owners who own more than 30% of the shares, the owners usually want to have control over the company and that are why they differ from the Swedish Code.

How consumers act during the buyers decision making process can change with age. How older consumers use modern technology in the buyers decision making process has however not been given a clear picture by researchers. Therefore the purpose of this study is to examine how older consumers use technology in the buyers decision making process and create a more nuanced picture of their usage. By using a qualitative method in the form of small-N-study and semi-structured interviews we have been able to answer our research questions. We have found that the technology i mainly used during the information gathering stage and the evaluation stage of the buyers decision making process, according to our respondents. From this we have been able to identify two seperate user types: Searcher-Stig and Evaluation-Ulla (Sökar-Stig och Utvärderar-Ulla). These two user types describe how older consumers mainly use technology in the buyers decision making process.

    Abstract [en]

Some scientists claim that there's a connection between entertainment and immersion. The epic theatre wanted to distance the audience but at the same time encourage them to reflect and be entertained. The study intended to examine how entertaining and immersive the participants experienced a game designed after epic theatre principles. After playing such a game, the participants either answered a questionnaire or took part in an interview. In general, they experienced high or mid-high immersion and entertainment. However, there were large differences between different individuals. The experience might have been affected by an interest in the theme or similar games. Immersion and entertainment share some components that seem to make the concepts difficult to separate in practice. There's a value in further research to understand immersion, entertainment and reflection better, and also how these affect each other. This might lead to more critical thinking and knowledge amongst the population.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine how six teachers, who work in two different schools, assess the methods Friends and Mombus in terms of bullying prevention. The Curriculum for elementary school (Lpo 94) emphasizes that it is the employees of schools who carry the main responsibility for preventing bullying among pupils. One of the main results of this study is that teachers, in addition to their work with Friends or Mombus, also need to use alternative methods to prevent bullying. Examples of these alternative methods include “Emotional Intelligence” as well as “friendship massage”. The result section also stresses the importance of anti-bullying teams when it comes to preventing harassments. At present there are no studies which have evaluated the results the Friends and Mombus methods have achieved. Since the methods are used in many schools in Sweden, the lack of evaluations is noteworthy. This study ends with a discussion on the complexity of bullying prevention. Further research is needed to clarify the results of different anti- bullying methods.

Demutualization of stock exchanges: A case study : London Stock Exchange and Hong Kong Stock Exchange2009Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The focus of this study is to evaluate the impact of corporate ownership structure on the overall performance of stock exchanges. This study distinguishes in particular mutual versus demutualized ownership. London Stock Exchange and Hong Kong Stock Exchange are chosen as study cases, because London Stock Exchange is one of the world leading stock exchanges and Hong Kong Stock Exchange is definitely one of the most important emerging market stock exchanges. That is why the results obtained by comparing these two stock exchanges could serve as good indicator in understanding the effects of demutualization process on the whole stock exchange sector and retain the subtle differences in micro-behavior of the stock exchanges undergone the same transformation.

In this paper the simple descriptive statistics is used as the method of analysis, in association to a profound review of the literature in this area. The data illuminate the fact that demutualized stock exchanges hold a stronger operating performance and a better performance in term of shareholder’s return than mutual exchanges. The result is generally in line with the basic theories in the area of corporate governance and empirical studies in this specific area like Aggarwal (2006), Mendiola and O’Hara (2003) and Hart and Moore (1996).

Research question: What effects does sales promotion have on the five different stages in consumers buying process? How does sales promotion effects differ on the five different stages in consumers buying process depending on consumers age, gender, income and degree of purchase involvement?

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate what different effects sales promotion have on the five stages of consumers buying process. We aimed to investigate what effects sales promotion have on the fives stages of consumers buying process on basis of consumers gender, age, income and the degree of purchase involvement. The study aims to provide insights to retailers about the impact of sales promotion on the different types of consumers, which enables them to gain a deeper understanding of how they can work with sales promotion against their respective target groups. Furthermore, the study intends to contribute to the marketing subject by creating an increased understanding of how consumer behavior can change as a result of sales promotion.

Method: In the study a qualitative method were used in form of four focus groups whereas the groups were divided into gender, age and income. We adopted a deductive approach were we could from the theoretical framework formulate expected results and then test it against reality in the focus groups.

Conclusion: Our study shows that sales promotion have different grades of impact on the five stages in the buying process where need recognition and post-purchase evalutation did not were affected to a large extent by sales promotion. It is in the stages information search, evaluation of alternatives and the purchase that sales promotion have the biggest impact. Demographic factors and the extent of purchase involvement have an impact on the effects of sales promotion in most cases.

    Abstract [en]

Previous research has made three parallel but incompatible observations on the contemporary development of welfare professions: loss of professional autonomy, hybridization, and maintained autonomy.  Yet,  research  providing  contextual  understanding  of  the  simultaneous  occurrence  of  these three observations is lacking. The aim of this theoretical paper is to identify and explain seemingly  contradictory  coexisting  features  of  modern  welfare  professions  through  a  compre-hensive reading of current literature on the health care and teaching professions in Sweden. The literature  has  demonstrated  entangled  institutional  logics,  in  which  simultaneous  but  differing  effects occur, thereby developing a new professional landscape.

    Abstract [en]

According to the steering documents it is the teacher's responsibility to make every student feel safe. The aim is that through interviews with students in grades 2-3 from the focus groups show the factors that can provide security and insecurity in a schoolyard, in order to provide identifying factors that affect students' perception of security and insecurity. We also want to examine whether there are specific areas that constitute potential risk zones for students.

We began by doing a pilot study to test the questions. Subsequently we conducted interviews with students in grades 4-5. We have used a qualitative approach with focus interviews. Five focus interviews with five students at each interview were performed.

Our results show several factors that students either felt created security or insecurity. The factors identified as contributing to security was confirmation from friends, the game creates community, the size of the schoolyard and space for play, access to playmaterial, freedom to choose the activity and the teachers' presence. Factors that contributed to the insecurity was a fight, exclusion, vehicular and teachers' absence. Results also show where there is potential danger zones for students. Finally, the conclusions drawn about how security is tied to social interaction and a categorization of student statements from entirely safe to precarious was made.

In the discussion we reflect on the method chosen. Then discussed the results and the literature in relation to the problems that can arise when working with different students. Although the social interaction positive advantages and disadvantages discussed utanförskapets and the pedagogical implications affecting friend relations and conflict resolution. Finally, suggestions for further research.

The purpose of this study is to investigate students' perception of how computers are used in teaching. The question was to see if there are benefits, drawbacks, and if there are areas of change to use computers in teaching. Data Usage is increasing in today's society and in most schools, students get a private student computer use in education. Studies show that data usage will need to be individualized to better help the individual student. The wording of their school says that students should learn IT for their future profession and to better discuss with their consumers / patients. The method used is interviews. Six students in grades three to Health and care program in high school were interviewed. Four interviews were conducted in the study, three individual interviews and group interviews. The results indicate student computer means access to the student when it facilitates the ability to take notes. The computer prevents students in the teaching when it is watched on social media during class, making it difficult to focus on the teacher during the lesson. The computer makes it easier for students to organize their student records in a better way. The possibilities for change focused on improving their notes.

    Abstract [en]

The nuclear issue is highly topical after the Fukushima-accident and since the concept

of democracy is the foundation of the Swedish school, it's pertinent to question how

different forms of nuclear education is related to the democracy assignment. The

purpose of this study was to examine how some teachers describe their nuclear

education in relation to the democratic assignment and to create a roleplay about nuclear

power using the teachers' thoughts and the democratic engagement. The first part of the

study is based on interviews with high school teachers in science studies. They

described their nuclear education and their dictums were analyzed in relation to the

school's democratic assignment. The interviews revealed, not just factual about nuclear

education, but also goals that can be linked to the democratic engagement; students

should be able to argue, participate in public debate and take a position on the nuclear

issue. Some described the factual knowledge as the primary objective, others as a means

to achieve other objectives, such as the above. Respondents used different teaching

methods, most common were traditional theory lessons and discussions. Positive was

that the teachers pointed out many goals of democratic character, maybe because the

nuclear issue is a controversial social issue, which may have led to that it's being

considered a political issue. The study's second part was mainly based on literature and

advice from experts in role-playing. The results showed that the role play, in theory,

may develop important democratic skills and knowledge in students.

    Abstract [en]

It is becoming increasingly common for companies to publish sustainability reports. These aim to report the companies social, environmental and economical impact in a transparent and balanced way. Previous research has questioned the motives behind companies' work with CSR issues. Some argue that companies not only publish their sustainability reports to take responsibility for their impact, but also to use it as a marketing tool.

There is a strong link between the fashion industry and CSR-related questions, as the industry has an affect on both environmental, social and economic conditions in their production chain. With this in mind, this study aimed to examine the way in which fashion enterprises on the Swedish market present themselves in their sustainability reports. The aim was to create an understanding of what is reported and furthermore describe how the companies portray themselves. This in order to come to a conclusion whether companies use their sustainability reports as marketing material, or if the reports are produced solely as factual information. In order to answer the research question, the sustainability reports were analysed in two steps. Firstly, a qualitative description of each company was made in order to convey a comprehensive picture of the content of the sustainability reports. Moreover a quantitative content analysis was carried out, which treated factors as the “content”, “non-narrative information”, “business relationships”, “future hopes”, “actual behaviour”, “positive and negative revelations related to the company” and “the legitimisation of negative aspects”.

The study showed that fashion enterprises mainly present social information, and also that the content is primarily positive, which corresponds with previous research. Furthermore, images are used to a great extent in relation to the number of pages of the reports. In light of this the impression is that the companies chose to present themselves in a positive manner with tendencies towards marketing.

    Abstract [en]

Curriculum for the Compulsory School System, the Pre-School Class and the Leisure-time Centre (Lpo 94) is clear in its definition that individualized tuition shall be applied in the school and that the tuition shall come from the individual pupil’s needs. Since research emphasizes that the definition and meaning of the term needs is not clear we found it interesting to research how teachers define the meaning of the term individualized tuition in school year 1 with special focus on the aspect of pupils’ needs. In order to study active teachers’ reasoning and dictums regarding this we chose a qualitative method with interviews as aid to gather data. The collected material has been analyzed and subsequently discussed with reference to research within the area. The result shows that individualized tuition is regarded as a question of conditions. The identification of individual pupils’ needs is what is perceived to be the basis of how the education should be individualized. The difficulty lies in that it is not always easy to identify the needs. The result showed that the possibility to individualize bases itself in the access of resources and the school subject’s nature. The result also show that age integrated classes is an advantage considering the access of resources, since cooperation between coworkers makes it easier to enable individualized tuition.

    Abstract [en]

This study is based on an interest in trying to understand what is needed to ensure that students actually learn in a learning object, in this study equations. Algebra is an area of mathematics in several studies proved to be a stumbling block for many students. Using letters in mathematis is difficult for most students according to research reports and it is also consistent with my own experince as a teacher. The purpose of this study was to seek answers to what in the lesson content and also during the interview that allowed the students to learn more about the learning object. Based on students' prior knowledge and the difficulties students might have with the learning object and the offer of learning, I try to get an answer to what might have contribut the students to developed knowledge of the learning object. This qualitative study is based on a variation theory perspective. The two students who participated in the study attended the same class in high school. By using the theory of variation patterns, it made it possible for me to describe how students learn new things about the learning object, equations. To gain insight into how the students solved the data and developed new knowledge, I had the lesson content and their statements in the interviews to help me understand the difficulties in solving the equtionatask and what in the lessons that have contributed to new knowledge. The results show that pupils' understanding and difficulties in learning objects are relevant to how they can perceive, discern and assimilate new knowledge. One student was able to experience learning from their prior knowledge and assimilate what he had to develop in the variety in the offer of learning. The offered learning did not give the second student the same opportunity. The results indicates that the knowledge of students' prior knowledge, the difficulties the learning object can create and students' own narrative, I argue on the basis of the study'sresults, it is important knowledge for every teacher to be aware of befor the presentation of the lesson if it will give every student opportunities to learn.

    Abstract [en]

The study aims to give deeper knowledge about the circle time in preschool. The studys starting point is teachers understandings about the function of circle time in preschool and what meaning it has for them. The questions of issue in the study are: What function does the circle time have in preschool? and What meaning have the circle time for teachers? To find out more about teachers' understanding about the circle time, a qualitative method with the interview technique was used. Six teachers with various educations from two preschools was asked to participate, choice of preschools and teachers is based on convenience. The result of the study is that the circle time has two meanings, partly as a phenomenon, partly as a working method. Circle time as a phenomenon shows that the teachers describe the circle time as “something” with focus on the content, for example that the circle time has a social function where the group is strengthen. The result shows that the circle time is a working method that teachers use to widen their view on the circle time and to get knowledge about the children that participate. The circle time gives teachers opportunity to afterwards consider their role and the activity itself.

#Kroppsuppfattning: En socialpsykologisk studie om hur unga individer upplever den egna kroppen när de använder Instagram2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

In recent years, many of the services run by governments around the world have begun to become more and more digitilized. This means that many processes that required manual / physical handling have become possible to do in the comfort of your home without having to face the company/organization directly. Many of these services include healthcare, the tax office and the school. These systems aim to serve the residents, but also to streamline the work for the internal users within the municipality or government.

During these developments and implementation processes, there are usually factors that developers or organizations should try to achieve if the system or service being developed is to succeed. There are many of these factors that have been documented in previous studies. Napitupulu (2014) is one of these researchers who collected and documented these factors. Examples of these factors are Training, top managers support, User participation and strong leadership.

These factors, however, have never been centered on the internal end-users of these systems and it has often not been emphasized in previous research on factors for e-government about which of these factors have the most significant impact if these were to be achieved.

This study therefore focused on finding the most important factors when implementing internal end users. The work has focused on interviewing internal users of E-administration whom have been implemented in schools around the local municipality of Skövde and other neighboring municipalities. Where they recently had a new E-administration system implemented. The responses will then be compared to previous focuses that have been found to see which of these factors are most important when a system is to be implemented. The results that come from this study hope that municipalities and companies can learn which areas should be focused on when implementing new systems in the school. The study also hopes to provide a good basis for future research to continue on the future. This study was conducted at a municipal level, but more data and factors can be assured if this study is done at national level.

Purpose of the study was to investigate teachers' intentions with the use of tactile massage as educational emphasis in early childhood education, with the goal to identify and describe different conceptions as to the effects of using tactile massage in early childhood education from an educator's perspective.

The study has a phenomenographic approach, an approach that implies that the researcher investigates people's perceptions and variations of a phenomenon. Data collection consisted of interviews with six teachers who used or use tactile massage in early childhood education.

The result of the study shows that the teachers’ intentions to use tactile massage can be traced to the social, physical, psychological and cognitive effects. Effects that respondents perceive the use of tactile massage.

The conclusion reads as follows: that the use of tactile massage causes the teacher who chooses the method tactile massage facing an educational dilemma, which means that the teacher must choose between what is most important, a values perspective or a didactic perspective.

    Abstract [en]

The digitalization has led to a major change in consumer’s buying behaviour. In many businesses, for example retail, e-commerce has become very popular and it is about to influence heavily the convenience goods business too. Among Swedish consumers, it is common that they at least once, have experienced buying groceries online. But the total revenue share for online grocery sales indicates that it is not done in the same extent, compared to other businesses. Purchase of groceries occur often and repeated and is characterized by a habitual behaviour. There is still though more factors that affects how Swedish consumers purchase their groceries.

The purpose of this study is to create understanding why Swedish consumers do not purchase groceries online in a larger extent. They have good experience of online purchasing in the retail business as well as they are familiar with buying groceries online. The study also aims to identify the influencing factors when a consumer chooses online purchasing for grocery shopping.

The result of the study concludes why consumers choose to not purchase their groceries through e-commerce. It depends on consumers’ habitual behavior, but also their need of touch and feel the groceries before purchase. They are also not willing to pay the extra fees that comes with the service of purchasing groceries through e-commerce. The factors that affect a consumer choosing e-commerce for grocery shopping are convenience, availability and time saving.

Suggestions to further research is to have a broader selection of respondents, with a wider range of age, from all over Sweden. This will enable to generalize and draw conclusions of a larger population.

Revisorns personlighet: Revisorns personliga inverkan på dokumentationen samt revisionskvaliteten under tidspress2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

SJUKSKÖTERSKEPROFESSIONENS IDENTIFIKATION: Medarbetarskap i professionella organisationer2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: People tend to identify themselves with different social groups based on, for instance, professional or organizational affiliation. Individuals who identify themselves with the same social group often create similar norms and values, which create a sense of belonging. In a professional organization professional co-workers tend to identify themselves with their profession rather than their organization, which in turn affects the relationship between the individual and the organization. In recent years the concept of co-workership has become increasingly popular in the Swedish labor market. The concept of co-workership includes how employees handle the relationship with their employer and to their own work. Depending on the extent to which employees identify themselves with their profession and their organization these relationships are affected.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe how professional identification influences the co-workership in professional organizations.

Method: To give a descriptive picture of the chosen area the study is based on a qualitative approach. In order to describe how professional identification influences the co-workership in professional organizations two case studies has been conducted, both organizations are to be found in the health care field. The study is based on qualitative interviews with respondents belonging to a chosen profession.

Results and conclusion: The present study has revealed that professional co-workers in a professional organization tend to identify themselves with their profession rather than their organization. Since co-workership is based on relationships both with employers and to the co-workers own work the professional identification therefor has an influence on the co-workership. The present study further revealed that trust occurs more widely within the own profession. It has also been found that fellowship and collaboration primarily occurs within the own profession. The study has shown that professionals tend to experience a stronger commitment to their work than to their organization, they also tend to take more responsibility for their own work than for the whole organization.

Könsfördelning och karriärmöjligheter inom revisionsbranschen2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim is to analyse the institutional character of, and the on-going communication in, a net community organised by and for young people. This is achieved using terms of conditions for situational political socialisation – a situation in a specific context in which the participants, within the battle between different groups attempting to organise society through interaction and action, adopt political preferences and skills. The thesis builds on agonism, a political theory in which controversy and struggle are viewed as prerequisites for human life that uses language as a political act. The net community, as an institution, contingently depends on political rebirth via action and communication. The use of language creates places that give the institution meaning while at the same time the institution claims the participants and their creation of meaning. Black Heart, the analysed net community, is a quasi-public space for and by young people aged between 14 and 28 years. It is a cultural community where political conversations take place among other kinds of communication. The institutional character of Black Heart and ten politically controversial conversations are analysed, using a case study method that applies web content analysis and computer mediated discourse analysis. There is a strong institutional framework operating in the political text conversations of Black Heart, the participants are governed by the institution and the participants govern each other. The political communication is characterised by revealing and arguing for political interest. To challenge is the dominant category of political action which constitutes political subjects that are offensive, argumentative and polemic. Political communication and the on-going interaction generate an educational situation in which the participants are expected to be content oriented, argumentative, expressive, communicative and polemic.

Nya portar?: Ungas delaktighet i politiska beslutsprocesser på kommunal nivå2015Report (Refereed)
    Abstract [sv]

Producing and consuming the controversial: A social media perspective on political conversations in the social science classroom2016In: Journal of Social Science Education, ISSN 1611-9665, E-ISSN 1618-5293, Vol. 15, no 1, p. 6-16Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Teachers find it difficult to conduct political controversial conversations in the social science classroom and due to an increased use of social media in educational settings new challenges and possibilities are raised. The use of social media causes fundamental changes to the role of the learner who becomes a producer and consumer – a prosumer – of educational content. With a social media perspective and a didactical focus on learning in democracy and political action the article discusses didactical conditions and possibilities of political controversial conversations in social science education and derives a set of didactic strategies. When approaching the classroom as a diverse ideological public space, recognising the students as political agents and using a social media perspective it is possible to balance the function of education – socialisation, qualification and subjectification – and at the same time stimulate societal engagement and political action.

Situational political socialization: a normative approach to young people’s adoption and acquisition of political preferences and skills2015In: Journal of Youth Studies, ISSN 1367-6261, E-ISSN 1469-9680, Vol. 18, no 8, p. 967-983Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Research on young people’s political socialization has had an adult-centered top–down bias in which young people are considered incomplete and in need of the right upbringing. The article attempts to balance this bias. The aim is to introduce and argue for another normative approach – situational political socialization. Four theoretical elements constitute its basis: (1) the political, (2) contingency (the principle of the public sphere), (3) space and place, and (4) situation. In the contingent western digital media society marked by cultural dissemination, individualism, and the erosion of traditional institutions, situational political socialization represents a normative basis for a research approach which is open, action-oriented and contextualized, viewing young people as political actors in their own right.

Sociala medier och politiskt kontroversiella samtal2015In: Kontroversiella frågor: Om kunskap och politik i samhällsundervisningen / [ed] Carsten Ljunggren, Ingrid Unemar Öst & Tomas Englund, Malmö: Gleerups Utbildning AB, 2015, 1, p. 77-94Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [sv]

Stake in the political: Young people´s condition for political socialization in social media2010In: Politics, Culture and Socialization, ISSN 1866-3427, E-ISSN 2196-1417, Vol. 1, no 4, p. 379-396Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article concerns young people’s political acting on their own terms. With a broad understanding of the political life – the political – and a recognition of space and place as central aspects determining young people’s condition for political socialization, the use of stake in a political conversation between young people is analyzed as an approach to describe and discuss aspects of political socialization in a public room within the social media – the net community. The political conversation within the national net community is shown to be built up and maintained by certain discursive conditions and pressures determining the character of the conversation, as well as the conditions to which you are expected to conform as a participant within this place. The findings indicate that young people’s political conversation – their political acting – in social media could be a new form of political communication with its own unique characteristics, creating conditions for young people’s political socialization.

Text som kontext - rum, plats och text som social situation2010In: Utbildning och lärande, ISSN 1653-0594, Vol. 4, no 1, p. 76-96Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The ability to express oneself in text has come to be an even more pressuring task due to new media. The use of text in the new media and the school looks slightly different and create different claims on which kind of text activity that are advocated. Language activity and use of text in different spaces and places has become a constituent principle in the western society of today – language and the use of text is seen as the ontological condition for social life. The historical and conventional media notion of public and reception has been replaced by a more complex communication situation due to the digital media. Related to this context and the linguistic turn, three concepts; text action, text conversation and the pedagogy of place are developed and exemplified by a national net community. The theoretical contribution makes it possible to understand and approach the use of text and the complexity this use in different spaces and places articulates. The national net community is discussed in relation to the school exemplifying two different public spaces where new media is put forward illustrating a social situation consti-tuted of text – young people’s use of text practically becomes context. How can we understand and approach this new educational situation?
