    Abstract [en]

    Simulation modeling has the capability to represent complex real-world systems in details and therefore it is suitable to develop simulation models for generating detailed operation plans to control the shop floor. In the literature, there are two major approaches for tackling the simulation-based scheduling problems, namely dispatching rules and using meta-heuristic search algorithms. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate that there are advantages when these two approaches are combined. More precisely, this paper introduces a novel hybrid genetic representation as a combination of both a partially completed schedule (direct) and the optimal dispatching rules (indirect), for setting the schedules for some critical stages (e.g. bottlenecks) and other non-critical stages respectively. When applied to an industrial case study, this hybrid method has been found to outperform the two common approaches, in terms of finding reasonably good solutions within a shorter time period for most of the complex scheduling scenarios.

    Abstract [en]

    Since it is known that mental illness is increasing, it is important to investigate how students with mental illness perceive their health in school and how they feel that school nurses could or should act. Bipolar disorder is a chronic, cyclical mood disorder, depression, hypomania and mania, which can be caused by both genetic factors as well as environmental factors. It is important that there is a high awareness of the condition among those who meet children with problems. School nurses are central to student health work and children's representatives, they must dare to look, listen and ask them about mental illness.The aim of the study was to describe how people with bipolar disorder experienced their mental health at school. The study was conducted using qualitative method. The study is based on interviews with nine people diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which was analyzed using the narrative method. The result shows how the informants' mental health was reflected in the home, along with the family and at school. The informants describe the difficulties of life, including severe depression, elevated mood, low self-esteem and stress. It is meaningful to all experienced mental illness in different ways at school. The perception was that there was ignorance about mental illness in those who work in the school. Common was that the informants are not asked for help and did not want to ask for help, but at the same time wished someone would look, listen and ask them. The conclusion is that the school needs to pay attention to children's mental health.

    Abstract [en]

    When children are hospitalized they will face a new and unknown environment. Many children experience this situation as stressful and with fear. It is important that the nurse is aware of this fact in order to facilitate the hospitalization for the child. The purpose of this study is to investigate the fear that children feel when they are hospitalized, and to investigate the meaning of being well prepared for clinical examinations and procedures. The method used was a literature review. The result is based on fourteen empirical articles published in scientific journals the year 1998 to 2007, and one dissertation from 2002. The articles were screened and read critically. The result indicates that most of the children who are hospitalized feel fear and that this could be reduced by proper behaviour from the nurse. The findings also show the importance for the parents and children to be well prepared, prior to the examination and treatment. The results show that the nurse needs to adapt the behaviour towards the child and the parents due to age and maturity of the child

    Abstract [en]

    Gustav Jonson's theory of the social heritage characterized social work in Sweden during the 1960s and onwards. The social policy issues debated then were about class society, labelling and alienation. After thirty years of professional work as a social worker, I find it interesting that the work still focuses on the theory of the social heritage and methods for breaking it. The aim of this study is to examine possible explanations to why this is so. The empirical material is taken from interviews with senior social workers. Issues examined are how they perceive social work and the theory of the social heritage. The results of the interviews have been processed based upon narrative analysis and reported in the form of meta-narratives. The stories provide a historical view of social work, encounters, situations and contexts. The final discussion is about how the social heritage is created, identified and carried forward. The conclusions show that the social heritage is a social construction created by the society and its inhabitants.The issue then, is to understand and to relate to this context, creating security control and balance in it. As a phenomenon, the social heritage can come to act as conservation and thus become a counterforce to change. Based on discussion and conclusions, it appears that efforts to break the social heritage are questionable. The study is a social psychological qualitative study worked with from a social constructionist perspective.

    Today, pre-schools are often associated with large children’s groups and the

    personnel are understaffed in relation to the size of the children’s groups. This

    results in, pedagogues feel frustrated that they do not have the time (and

    resources) to provide for every child’s need to support their development,

    which is one of the commissions of the pre-school. The purpose of our study is

    to illustrate a pedagogue reasoning on how to work in order to individualise 3-

    5-year-old children’s language process in relation to the size of the children’s

    groups. The study is based on six qualitative interviews with pedagogues who

    work or have worked with children in the ages of 3 to 5 years old. This method

    is chosen in order to realise how teachers reflect on and act to notice and

    distinguish every child and their language process among the rest of the

    children. The results show that it is often easier to pay attention to every child

    when they are divided into several smaller groups. Another way is to interact

    with the child in ordinary situations in their own level of language

    development. The large group of children can stop their language process when

    it comes to their speech development and possibility of individual time with the

    pedagogues. Documentation helps the teachers to organise the way to work and

    thereby on how to follow every child’s individual language process. Something

    that can be of importance is that it is not always the size of the group that is the

    contributory cause for a pedagogue to take notice to every child and its needs

    but the composition of the group can also be determining.

    Abstract [en]

    BACKGROUND: Nursing documentation has been a legal obligation in Sweden since 1986. Many earlier studies show that the documentation lack comprehensiveness and that the nursing process is not followed. In Sweden many nurses uses the VIPS-model when documenting. VIPS is acronym for the Swedish spelling words Well-being, Integrity, Prevention and Security. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine what and to what extent nurses in Sweden document in the patient-journal. METHOD: A literature review was chosen for this study. RESULT: The result shows that nurses in Sweden document nursing status and interventions the most. There is less documentation about diagnosis, goals, outcome and discharge notes. The comprehensiveness of the patient records is poor and complete documentation occurs rarely. DISCUSSION: Nurses need education to understand the importance of having a clear structure in the patient record following the nursing process. In the future a standardized language can help the nurses to document according to the nursing process by using systems as NANDA and NIC.

    Det finns ett tydligt samband mellan konflikter och sjukskrivningar i organisationer. Det är oundvikligt med konflikter i organisationer dock upplevs de av flera som något jobbigt. Det är inte konflikter i sig som är det huvudsakliga problemet utan hur konflikten hanteras. Det ärdärför viktigt för chefer att ha kunskap i konflikthantering. Genom denna undersökning vill vita reda på hur butikschefer inom detaljhandeln arbetar med konflikter och konflikthantering medarbetare emellan. Ordet konflikt betyder oenighet och ses ofta som ett problem i organisationen. Människor har fyra olika basbehov som kommer leda till en konflikt ifall de kränks. De som arbetar med konflikhantering har kommit fram till att alla konflikter har en process som ser i stort sett likadan ut oavsett var den uppstår. Grunden för allt samspel mellan människor är kommunikation och innebär att man delar med sig av tankar, avsikter, känslor och värderingar. För att kunna lösa en konflikt måste den först tydliggöras, därefter analyseras och komma fram till vad den beror på för att sedan bearbetas. Hur chefen tar sig an detta beror på hur denne kombinerar egenintresse respektive samarbetsintresse. För att genomföra undersökningen valdes en kvalitativ undersökningsmetod som bestod av öppna individuella intervjuer med tre butikschefer. Intervjuerna genomfördes i tre olika butiker med olika storlekar samt olika företagsformer. Butikschefens erfarenhet är det mest avgörande för hur konflikthanteringen kommer att se ut, utbildning inom området är till synes betydelselös i konfliktsammanhang. Det kan vara svårt att följa en teoretisk modell då alla konflikter ser olika ut. Det mest avgörande för en konstruktiv konflikthantering är att uppmärksamma konflikten i tid samt att ha en god kommunikation vilket inte kan påpekas nog med gånger. Det finns olika konflikthanteringsstilar som beroende på hur man kombinerar samarbetsintresse och egenintresse väljs i konfliktsituationer. Det mest funktionella skulle kunna vara att kombinerade olika stilarna och anpassa stilen efter hur situationen ser ut. Det är av stor vikt att lösa konflikter så snabbt som möjligt i butiksmiljö för att undvika att kunder påverkas avkonflikten.

    The essay is about the free play in preschool classes and how much time the pupils have for free play. The study investigates if the play material and the environment affects the time that is given for free play. The study also describes if the location of the preschool classes, in relation to preschool and school has any importance for the time that is given to the pupils for free play, and which thoughts the teachers in the preschool classes has about free play and its conditions. Observations and interviews were conducted with teachers from three different preschools.

    The results shows that the time given to free play varied between the three preschool classes and that the play material and environment had some importance for the existence of the free play. The preschool classes that are situated in the school buildings are more influenced by the school and their goals, while the preschool classes that lies outside the school buildings are more like preschools. The study also shows that the teacher has a significant part for the free play. In the discussion, we ask the question, if preshool classes should have a curriculum of their own.

    Background: The majority of the epidemiological studies show that heart failure is increasing all over the Western world. The increase of patients with heart failure increases the need for healthcare to understand how patients live with this disease, which is important in the process for the patients to adjust to the distressing illness experience.Aim: The aim of this study is to describe patient's with heart failure experience how their disease affect their daily life.Method: Literature based study with qualitative research that follows Friberg (2006) method of analyzing which 14 articles were reviewed.Result: Five themes was identified: (1) a new and uncertain situation, (2) changes of patient’s psychological and physical abilities, (3) changes of the social life, (4) adjustment and acceptance of the situation with new meaning and identity, (5) anxiety about death and the unpredictable nature of the disease. Living with heart failure was characterized by distressing symptoms, restrictions in daily life, changes in social life and their identity, and anxiety about death and the unpredictable nature of the disease.Conclusion: The experience of health and quality of life is individual. Distinct information about the disease and self care to the patient is needed for improved control, experience of health and quality of life.

    Bakgrund:Det finns väl förankrad kunskap kring amningens fördelar samt vad som påverkar beslutet att amma. Exempelvis har partnern visat sig betydelsefull för amningsdurationen. I transition till föräldraskap kan begreppet jämställdhet bli centralt. Studier har visat att ojämställd relation riskerar skapa ohälsa hos kvinnor. Det är av intresse att undersöka hur nyblivna mödrar upplever amning i relation till jämställt föräldraskap för att som barnmorska få förståelse och därmed kunna främja både amning och jämställdhet. Syfte: Att undersöka hur förstagångsmödrar upplever jämställdhet i parrelationen vid helamning. Metod:Deltagare söktes via webb-grupper på internet. 18 stycken deltagare besvarade fritt i löpande text en övergripande fråga kring upplevelsen av helamning och jämställdhet i parrelationen. Textmaterialet analyserades utifrån kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Kvinnor upplever ökad risk att bli projektledare i hemmet samt ökat försprång avseende barnets anknytning. Ytterligare upplevs fritiden inskränkt. Dock ses gemensam strävan till jämställdhet vilket kan generera upplevelse av jämställdhet. Kommunikationens betydelse lyfts som verktyg för att uppleva relationen jämställd vid helamning. Konklusion: Jämställdheten i relationen kan upplevas negativt påverkad under tiden för helamning. Upplevelse av jämställdhet möjliggörs dock genom synliggörande av strategier som främjar jämställdhetsamt genom gemensam strävan vilket kan öka upplevelse av jämställdhet i relationen under tiden för helamning.

    Effektivitetsmätning är ett ständigt aktuellt ämne som intresserar många företag. Historiskt sett har denna mätning begränsats till ekonomiska aspekter, men i dagens samhälle räcker inte det. För att hänga med i den allt hårdare konkurrensen mellan företagen måste effektivitetsmätningen täcka upp organisationens samtliga aktiviteter. Utifrån teorier om effektivitet, mål och mått har det därför undersökts hur privata företag arbetar med den inre effektivitetsmätningen, samt hur detta kan appliceras på tjänste- och systemutvecklingsföretaget Aptic AB.

    Denna kvalitativa studie baseras på sju intervjuer genomförda på olika företag som alla har använt sig av effektivitetsmätningar i flera år. För att få en överblick av Aptic AB:s behov av liknande effektivitetsmätningar intervjuades även två personer från denna organisation. Intervjuerna var halvstrukturerade med öppna frågor för att respondenterna skulle ha möjlighet att ta upp det som de själva tyckte var viktigt.

    Empirin visar att effektivitet kan mätas genom att sätta upp mål inom områden som ekonomi, kvalitet, leveranssäkerhet, medarbetare, säkerhet, miljö och förbättringar, för att sedan utföra mätningar som visar hur verksamheten ligger till i förhållande till det. Eftersom samtliga företag ansåg att effektivitetsmätning är en viktig del i organisationens överlevnad på längre sikt, så rekommenderas även Aptic AB att påbörja detta arbete.

    According to the Swedish curriculum, all pupils shall through teaching learn theSwedish language and its structure. With this as a background, we found it interesting toprepare a lecture planning that was to be varied on the basis of three different theoreticalpositions, socialconstructivism, individualconstructivism and behaviourism. Ateachingobject was also chosen. The teaching object that was selected was substantive,both in irregular and regular form, and in singular and plural form. Furthermore, thestudy aims to illustrate the pupils’ knowledge development after carried out teaching.The development was shown through three written tests. The three groups of pupils thattook part in the study were pupils in second grade, second- third grade and third grade.The result of the study shows that the knowledge developments of the pupils have beenaffected by the teaching they have participated in. Something that crossed our mindsthroughout this study was that there are no optimal methods of teaching. Since all pupilsare unique and learn differently, a variation of teaching methods are of big importance.

    A bilevel approach to parameter tuning of optimization algorithms using evolutionary computing: Understanding optimization algorithms through optimization2018Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Most optimization problems found in the real world cannot be solved using analytical methods. For these types of difficult optimization problems, an alternative approach is needed. Metaheuristics are a category of optimization algorithms that do not guarantee that an optimal solution will be found, but instead search for the best solutions using some general heuristics. Metaheuristics have been shown to be effective at finding “good-enough” solutions to a wide variety of difficult problems. Most metaheuristics involve control parameters that can be used to modify how the heuristics perform its search. This is necessary because different problems may require different search strategies to be solved effectively. The control parameters allow for the optimization algorithm to be adapted to the problem at hand. It is, however, difficult to predict what the optimal control parameters are for any given problem. The problem of finding these optimal control parameter values is known as parameter tuning and is the main topic of this thesis. This thesis uses a bilevel optimization approach to solve parameter tuning problems. In this approach, the parameter tuning problem itself is formulated as an optimization problem and solved with an optimization algorithm. The parameter tuning problem formulated as a bilevel optimization problem is challenging because of nonlinear objective functions, interacting variables, multiple local optima, and noise. However, it is in precisely this kind of difficult optimization problem that evolutionary algorithms, which are a subclass of metaheuristics, have been shown to be effective. That is the motivation for using evolutionary algorithms for the upper-level optimization (i.e. tuning algorithm) of the bilevel optimization approach. Solving the parameter tuning problem using a bilevel optimization approach is also computationally expensive, since a complete optimization run has to be completed for every evaluation of a set of control parameter values. It is therefore important that the tuning algorithm be as efficient as possible, so that the parameter tuning problem can be solved to a satisfactory level with relatively few evaluations. Even so, bilevel optimization experiments can take a long time to run on a single computer. There is, however, considerable parallelization potential in the bilevel optimization approach, since many of the optimizations are independent of one another. This thesis has three primary aims: first, to present a bilevel optimization framework and software architecture for parallel parameter tuning; second, to use this framework and software architecture to evaluate and configure evolutionary algorithms as tuners and compare them with other parameter tuning methods; and, finally, to use parameter tuning experiments to gain new insights into and understanding of how optimization algorithms work and how they can used be to their maximum potential. The proposed framework and software architecture have been implemented and deployed in more than one hundred computers running many thousands of parameter tuning experiments for many millions of optimizations. This illustrates that this design and implementation approach can handle large parameter tuning experiments. Two types of evolutionary algorithms, i.e. differential evolution (DE) and a genetic algorithm (GA), have been evaluated as tuners against the parameter tuning algorithm irace. The as pects of algorithm configuration and noise handling for DE and the GA as related to the parameter tuning problem were also investigated. The results indicate that dynamic resampling strategies outperform static resampling strategies. It was also shown that the GA needs an explicit exploration and exploitation strategy in order not become stuck in local optima. The comparison with irace shows that both DE and the GA can significantly outperform it in a variety of different tuning problems.

    Scheduling problems have been studied extensively in the literature but because they are so hard to solve, especially real-world problems, it is still interesting to find ways of solving them more efficiently. This thesis aims to efficiently solve a real-world scheduling problem by using a hybrid representation together with an optimisation algorithm. The aim of the hybrid representation is to allow the optimisation to focus on the parts of the scheduling problem where it can make the most improvement. The new approach used in this thesis to accomplish this goal, is the combination of simulation-based optimisation using genetic algorithms and dispatching rules. By using this approach, it is possible to investigate the effect of putting specified job sequences in certain machines and using dispatching rules in the other. The hypothesis is that the optimisation can use dispatching rules on non-bottleneck machines that have little impact on the overall performance of the line and some specified job sequences on bottleneck machines that are hard to be scheduled efficiently with dispatching rules. This would allow the optimisation to focus on the bottleneck machines and that would produce a more efficient search. The results from the case study shows it is a viable approach exceeding or equalling existing techniques. The hypothesis that the optimisation can focus its efforts is supported by a bottleneck analysis which corresponds with the experimental results from optimisations.

    Denna rapport undersöker krav, tagna från ett ramverk för evaluering av CASE-verktyg i ett kontextuellt sammanhang, i två representativa CASE-verktyg. Ramverket utnyttjar en modell som föreslagits av Lundell och Lings för att extrahera både krav och förväntningar som en organisation (www.it.volvo.com) hade på vad ett CASE-verktyg är och kan utföra.

    Ramverket extraherar krav i ett organisationell kontext, dvs. utvärderingen utfördes innan verktyget som evaluerades användes i organisationen. Detta indikerar på att kraven inte är knutna till ett specifikt verktyg, samt att CASE-verktyg inte säkert stödjer dessa krav.

    Resultatet för denna rapport är att viss semantisk förlust uppstod vid transformering av kod och modeller.

    Det här arbetet undersöker om heuristik i en algoritm kan förbättra optimeringen av postdistributionsnätverk. Som optimeringsalgoritm används hill climbing och heuristiken appliceras på mutationsoperatorn. För att utvärdera mutationsoperatorn skapas en förenklad modell av ett postdistribueringsnätverk. Ett befintligt postdistribueringsnätverk används som utgångspunkt för den förenklade modellen för att snabbt kunna få en bra och realistisk modell. Resultaten av undersökningen indikerar på att den heuristiska mutationsoperatorn sänker tiden det tar att hitta en bra lösning jämfört med att använda en slumpmässig mutationsoperator.

    Ett av många nya användningsområden för smartphones är att använda dem som

    caddie på golfbanan. Golfaren kan få hjälp med avståndsuppskattning till intressanta

    punkter på banan genom att dessa punkter programmeras in och jämförs med

    smartphonens inbyggda positioneringssystem. Den här rapporten visar hur det med en

    bildsegmenteringsalgoritm går att slippa det manuella arbetet med att lägga in

    positioner för sandbunkrar på golfbanan. Algoritmen som tagits fram arbetar på

    satellitbilder som smartphonen kan ladda ned via dess Internetanslutning. Golfaren

    kan i ett tänkt scenario ge sig ut på en godtycklig golfbana och få hjälp med

    avståndsbedömning enbart med hjälp av satellitbilder och smartphonens gps. I snitt

    hittar den framtagna segmenteringsalgoritmen cirka 70 % av sandbunkrarna på en

    satellitbild, en siffra som i en verklig applikation skulle behöva ökas och förslag på

    hur detta kan göras ges i slutet av rapporten. Tre olika upplösningar på satellitbilderna

    har utvärderats och testkörts i en nyare smartphone. Även om den högsta

    upplösningen används tar en hel golfbana endast cirka 15 sekunder att segmentera

    vilket bör hinnas med under loppet av en vanlig golfrunda som i regel tar 3 till 5

    timmar.

    I ett vidare perspektiv går det att tänka sig helt andra tillämpningar där det finns

    behov av positionsuppskattning av objekt i en satellitbild i sin smartphone. Det bör på

    ett förhållandevis enkelt sätt gå att utvidga slutsatserna som dragits i rapporten till att

    gälla annat än enbart sandbunkrar, t.ex. sjöar, fält, åkrar och givetvis andra delar av

    golfbanan som vattenhinder och greener.

    The use of optimization to solve a simulation-based multi-objective problem produces a set of solutions that provide information about the trade-offs that have to be considered by the decision maker. An incomplete or sub-optimal set of solutions will negatively affect the quality of any subsequent decisions. The parameters that control the search behavior of an optimization algorithm can be used to minimize this risk. However, choosing good parameter settings for a given optimization algorithm and problem combination is difficult. The aim of this paper is to take a step towards optimal parameter settings for optimization of simulation-based problems. Two parameter tuning methods, Latin Hypercube Sampling and Genetic Algorithms, are used to maximize the performance of NSGA-II applied to a simulation-based problem with discrete variables. The strengths and weaknesses of both methods are analyzed. The effect of the number of decision variables and the function budget on the optimal parameter settings is also studied.

    Evolutionary optimization algorithms typically use one or more parameters that control their behavior. These parameters, which are often kept constant, can be tuned to improve the performance of the algorithm on specific problems. However, past studies have indicated that the performance can be further improved by adapting the parameters during runtime. A limitation of these studies is that they only control, at most, a few parameters, thereby missing potentially beneficial interactions between them. Instead of finding a direct control mechanism, the novel approach in this paper is to use different parameter sets in different stages of an optimization. These multiple parameter sets, which remain static within each stage, are tuned through extensive bi-level optimization experiments that approximate the optimal adaptation of the parameters. The algorithmic performance obtained with tuned multiple parameter sets is compared against that obtained with a single parameter set. For the experiments in this paper, the parameters of NSGA-II are tuned when applied to the ZDT, DTLZ and WFG test problems. The results show that using multiple parameter sets can significantly increase the performance over a single parameter set.

    Evolutionary optimization algorithms have parameters that are used to adapt the search strategy to suit different optimization problems. Selecting the optimal parameter values for a given problem is difficult without a-priori knowledge. Experimental studies can provide this knowledge by finding the best parameter values for a specific set of problems. This knowledge can also be constructed into heuristics (rule-of-thumbs) that can adapt the parameters for the problem. The aim of this paper is to assess the heuristics of the Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (CMA-ES) optimization algorithm. This is accomplished by tuning CMA-ES parameters so as to maximize its performance on the CEC'15 problems, using a bilevel optimization approach that searches for the optimal parameter values. The optimized parameter values are compared against the parameter values suggested by the heuristics. The difference between specialized and generalized parameter values are also investigated.

    The performance of an Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) can be greatly influenced by its parameters. The optimal parameter settings are also not necessarily the same across different problems. Finding the optimal set of parameters is therefore a difficult and often time-consuming task. This paper presents results of parameter tuning experiments on the NSGA-II and NSGA-III algorithms using the ZDT test problems. The aim is to gain new insights on the characteristics of the optimal parameter settings and to study if the parameters impose the same effect on both NSGA-II and NSGA-III. The experiments also aim at testing if the rule of thumb that the mutation probability should be set to one divided by the number of decision variables is a good heuristic on the ZDT problems. A comparison of the performance of NSGA-II and NSGA-III on the ZDT problems is also made.

    Abstract [en]

    The runtime of an evolutionary algorithm can be reduced by increasing the number of parallel evaluations. However, increasing the number of parallel evaluations can also result in wasted computational effort since there is a greater probability of creating solutions that do not contribute to convergence towards the global optimum. A trade-off, therefore, arises between the runtime and computational effort for different levels of parallelization of an evolutionary algorithm.  When the computational effort is translated into cost, the trade-off can be restated as runtime versus cost. This trade-off is particularly relevant for cloud computing environments where the computing resources can be exactly matched to the level of parallelization of the algorithm, and the cost is proportional to the runtime and how many instances that are used. This paper empirically investigates this trade-off for two different evolutionary algorithms, NSGA-II and differential evolution (DE) when applied to multi-objective discrete-event simulation-based (DES) problem. Both generational and steadystate asynchronous versions of both algorithms are included. The approach is to perform parameter tuning on a simplified version of the DES model. A subset of the best configurations from each tuning experiment is then evaluated on a cloud computing platform. The results indicate that, for the included DES problem, the steady-state asynchronous version of each algorithm provides a better runtime versus cost trade-off than the generational versions and that DE outperforms NSGA-II.

    A Parallel Computing Software Architecture for the Bilevel Parameter Tuning of Optimization AlgorithmsManuscript (preprint) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Most optimization algorithms extract important algorithmic design decisions as control parameters. This is necessary because different problems can require different search strategies to be solved effectively. The control parameters allow for the optimization algorithm to be adapted to the problem at hand. It is however difficult to predict what the optimal control parameters are for any given problem. Finding these optimal control parameter values is referred to as the parameter tuning problem. One approach of solving the parameter tuning problem is to use a bilevel optimization where the parameter tuning problem itself is formulated as an optimization problem involving algorithmic performance as the objective(s). In this paper, we present a framework and architecture that can be used to solve large-scale parameter tuning problems using a bilevel optimization approach. The proposed framework is used to show that evolutionary algorithms are competitive as tuners against irace which is a state-of-the-art tuning method. Two evolutionary algorithms, differential evaluation (DE) and a genetic algorithm (GA) are evaluated as tuner algorithms using the proposed framework and software architecture. The importance of replicating optimizations and avoiding local optima is also investigated. The architecture is deployed and tested by running millions of optimizations using a computing cluster. The results indicate that the evolutionary algorithms can consistently find better control parameter values than irace. The GA, however, needs to be configured for an explicit exploration and exploitation strategy in order avoid local optima.

    This paper presents a simulation-optimization system for personnel scheduling. The system is developed for the Swedish postal services and aims at finding personnel schedules that minimizes both total man hours and the administrative burden of the person responsible for handling schedules. For the optimization, the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm NSGA-II is implemented. The simulation-optimization system is evaluated on a real-world test case and results from the evaluation shows that the algorithm is successful in optimizing the problem.

    The climate is hard in the retail trade, and this means that it takes a lot of effort from the stores, to get a profitable business. It has been noted that it is difficult for individual stores in smaller communities to maintain their business, due to the heavy competition from established chains in major cities.

    The purpose of the thesis was to find out whether a collaboration between shops in a small community with a common loyalty program, makes it easier to survive in the market. This through theories of relationship oriented consumption, which aims to keep customers by developing good relationships, but even earlier studies of the loyalty program to find any differences and similarities. The collection of empirical data was done using focus group interviews, where the groups consisted of people in three different age categories. Through this we got information about how respondents relate to a single loyalty program, based on issues of trust and customer satisfaction.

    The conclusion of the report shows that the customer value, frequency of visits, the dedication and the relations has developed with the help of the loyalty program. Nevertheless it’s not possible to draw a complete conclusion that this lead to increased loyalty and viability, since earlier research not is unanimous that these factors contribute to this. The result in the report shows that the first steps to obtain increased viability and loyalty are fulfilled and that according to most scientists should lead to increased viability in the long term. It has also appeared in the report that there is a difference between a traditional loyalty program and a cooperative loyalty program. This is that it does not matter what the customer loyalty is before the loyalty program, to enable him or her to increase their purchase.

    Detta arbete undersöker prestandakraven hos realtidsväxande procedurellt genererande träd baserade på L-systemet genom att jämföra dessa med identiska träd representerade i form av statisk mesh.

    Ett stokastiskt parametriskt kontextberoende L-system med hakparenteser har implementerats i en enkel testmiljö baserad på OpenGL, statisk mesh har implementerats i form av display list. Undersökningen har jämfört de två teknikerna baserat på renderingstid, minnesanvändning, och genereringstid av Lsystem, såväl som hur de båda teknikerna skalar med antal vertiser och L-systemslängd.

    Resultaten visar på att de L-systemsbaserade träden har längre renderingstid än de representerade med statisk mesh, utöver tid för att växa träden via L-systemet före var rendering. De L-systemsbaserade träden visade dock på lägre minnesanvändning än sin statiska motsvarighet. Resultaten visar även på att de tekniker som jämförts inte nödvändigtvis var optimalt implementerade, och arbetet avslutas med en diskussion om hur detta skulle kunna åtgärdas i framtida arbeten.

    Detta arbete fokuserar på att utveckla två webbapplikationer i ramverken Django och Node.js tillsammans med Express för att besvara frågan av vilket ramverk som erhåller bäst söktider utifrån en Q&A plattform som använder en PostgreSQL databas vars innehåll är delar av Stack Overflow datasetet. Ramverken jämförs med hjälp av metoden experiment på grund av fördelarna som det erbjuder. Resultatet blev att Node.js gav bättre söktider för ett mindre webbapplikationer medan Django presterade bättre för större webbapplikationer. Genom att halvera storleken av sökresultatens kroppstext till 150 tecken fick Node.js söktider som i snitt var bättre än Django vid större projekt. Antalet sökresultat har en inverkan där vardera ramverk har sina egna intervaller där de ger bäst söktider. Kortsiktigt kan arbetet fortsätta genom att utföra ytterligare mätningar för respektive faktor, långsiktigt kan dessa ramverk jämföras med andra för att se om dessa två ligger bland de bättre eller sämre för denna tillämpningen.

    Background: Every day women in Sweden suffer from breast cancer, that also is the most common cancer form for women. Getting a breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming and puts the whole life situation at stake, especially when these women are in the middle of working life with family and children. It is important for nurses to know how these women experience their situation in order to provide the best care possible. Aim: The aim of the study was to describe women's experiences of living with breast cancer. Method: A qualitative survey method with an inductive approach was chosen where the data consisted of autobiographies. Results: From the analysis of the data, seven themes are shown; a time of uncertainty, a willingness to survive, an urgent treatment, hopeful signs, a supportive environment, changing view of life and a changed body. Conclusion: Women with breast cancer live a turbulent life that causes several stressful treatments that affect their quality of life. The experience is individual and requires support from both close relatives and healthcare professionals, to help the women get through the disease process as they feel exposed to the disease.

    Three-dimensional computer graphics enjoys a wide range of applications of which games and movies are only few examples. By incorporating three-dimensional computer graphics in to a simulator the simulator is able to provide the operator with visual feedback during a simulation. Simulators come in many different flavors where flight and radar simulators are two types in which three-dimensional rendering of large terrains constitutes a central component.

    Ericsson Microwave Systems (EMW) in Skövde is searching for an algorithm that (a) can handle terrain data that is larger than physical memory and (b) has an adjustable error metric that can be used to reduce terrain detail level if an increase in load on other critical parts of the system is observed. The aim of this paper is to identify and evaluate existing algorithms for terrain rendering in order to find those that meet EMW: s requirements. The objectives are to (i) perform a literature survey over existing algorithms, (ii) implement these algorithms and (iii) develop a test environment in which these algorithms can be evaluated form a performance perspective.

    The literature survey revealed that the algorithm developed by Lindstrom and Pascucci (2001) is the only algorithm of those examined that succeeded to fulfill the requirements without modifications or extra software. This algorithm uses memory-mapped files to be able to handle terrain data larger that physical memory and focuses on how terrain data should be laid out on disk in order to minimize the number of page faults. Testing of this algorithm on specified test architecture show that the error metric used could be adjusted to effectively control the terrains level of detail leading to a substantial increase in performance. The results also reveal the need for both view frustum culling as well a level of detail algorithm to achieve fast display rates of large terrains. Further the results also show the importance of how terrain data is laid out on disk especially when physical memory is limited.

    Vårt examensarbete går ut på att utforska processen kring att producera en artist och sedan presentera denne för skivbolag. Till grund för detta arbete ligger vår förra studie, ”Hur ser musikproducentens roll ut inom svensk populärmusik” och resultatet av den studien har vi i detta arbete omsatt i praktiken. Vi har nu arbetat med ett case, vilket bestod i att producera en sångerska och sammanföra hennes låtar till en homogen produktion för att slutligen presentera denna för två svenska majorskivbolag. Vid presentationen förde vi en diskussion med respektive A & R angående både vår presentation och artistpresentationer i allmänhet. Resultatet av arbetet är dels produkten, vilken är en demonstration av de tre låtar vi producerade samt de tips och reflektioner vi fick vid presentationerna.

    Bofors UwS (Underwater Systems) har påbörjat utvecklingen av ett nytt centraliserat system för att koordinera alla torpedhanterare ombord på ett fartyg till en central enhet. Detta system måste kunna ta emot och i vissa fall sända data till de övriga delsystemen ombord på fartyget. För att lyckas med detta behöver de en kommunikationsapplikation till denna centrala enhet. MONOLITH är en prototyp av en sådan applikation. Dess huvudändamål är att demonstrera hur detta kan utföras och att testa enheter som kan kontrollera ett antal torpeder. En sådan enhet kallas för en TIU vilket står för Torpedo Interface Unit.

    Background: Type 1 diabetes mainly affects children and the disease is shifting towards younger ages. To suffer from diabetes may involve lifestyle changes, which can be stressful for both the child and the parents. Parents must take great responsibility for the child’s treatment and are therefore in need of support from the surroundings and the nurse to deal with the situation. A good support can mean that parents can integrate diabetes in their daily life, as well as increase the feeling of hope. Aim: To describe parents’ perceived need of support when their child is living with type 1 diabetes. Method: Eleven qualitative articles formed the basis of the literature review and these were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. The search was conducted in the databases CINAHL, MEDLINE and PubMed. Results: Four themes emerged during the analysis that responded to the parents’ perceived need of support. These were the desire to be understood, not to be judged and accused, the desire for confirmation and to feel security and trust. Conclusion: The need for support was great both from the social surroundings and the diabetes team. The nurse should work from a person-centered approach in order to meet the parents’ individual needs of support.

    This study examines how Augmented Reality (AR) visualizations can impact the collective interaction of users. This research will focus on a multiphase experience with a buildup of different levels of Virtual Reality through the use of panoramas and 3D models. The experience was created using a participatory method with multiple tests and iterations to better create an evaluable product.

    The result if this experiment shows that the impact AR has on users is extensive. A properly framed character can even change a pair of two users into a group of three.

In today’s society, sexual abuse of children is a real and common occurrence. This research will explore what role interactive media can play in helping children open up about abuse as well as identify 11 key design features for designing such a tool. To do so, the participatory method (Simon 2010) will be utilized throughout the design process, based on the collaboration with health care professionals to ensure as relevant and applicable design features as possible. The result of this study are the first iterations of designing this tool as well as the 11 key features that were identified with the help of health care professionals’ expertise.

    Background: An indisputable right for nurses is to have a safe and secure work environment so they can deliver a high quality care. To bring a clear definition of what threat and violence are, is an important part in the work to prevent threat and violence. One part of the problem is that the experience and understanding of threat and violence can be different from one person to another. Aim: The aim of this quality study was to emphasize Nurses experience of threat and violence at workplace. Method: The method used in this study was qualitative interviews in the sense to bring out the nurses experience. Four nurses at four different emergency divisions were interviewed. Results; Two leading categories emerged with 12 subcategories. The leading categories are: nurse’s experience of threat and violence and nurse’s management of threat and violence. Conclusion; This study shows that nurses experience threat and violenc at their workplace and that the increased amount of violence in the society reflects on what happens at the hospitals.

    As industry 4.0 is rising companies are obliged to work to increase their quality, flexibility and reduce their changeover time. The final year project is written for Högskolan I Skövde and Volvo GTO with focus to identify possible human-robot collaboration tasks in a manual assembly line. The main objective for the thesis is to developed a method for a specification for implementation of virtual collaboration station.

    A central point for the thesis is sustainable development. By reducing non ergonomically and stressful tasks, social sustainability can be increased which can lead to lead to less scrap and quality deviation.

    Presumptions for the thesis are analyzed and discussed where standardized work is a central and important part. Four general collaborations methods are mentioned. A specific collaborative robot where used and its proficiency analyzed during the work, a UR10e. Previous researched mentioned the safety issue related to implementation of a collaborative robot. A recommendation to properly ensure the safety is to perform a risk assessment when the work sequence and layout is generated.

    To identify potential tasks for the collaborative robot data related to the defined stations needs to be analyzed. The conclusion was that only one station included all the five identified potential tasks for the collaborative robot. This resulted in an adjustment of the work order for the selected station and thereby create a human robot collaboration.

    Two implementation suggestions where created and differed only in the location of a specific component. The new position for the component requires a reorganization of the material handling to the station. There are two categories of product variants and the new working sequences reduce the work load because tasks are performed by the robot.

    The generated method to create a specification is based on the work performed during the thesis. This method includes recommendation and methods which will facilitate similar projects. Standardize work is a key factor to create similar prerequisites.

    A recommendation for continual work is to create a virtual environment where a risk assessment can take place in order to generate a safe work environment.

    Background: For companies are every economic aspect essential. One aspect is the workplace health that employees feel whom can be a big cost. In our society is stress and depression increasing despite extensive knowledge in the topic for workplace health.

    Purpose: The purpose of the study is to illustrate the connection between followship and workplace health.

    Theory: The study has it starting point from followship and workplace health. Previous research in the topic for workplace health have been related to the wheel of followship to study if one of the four factors in followship can explain workplace health more than the other factors.

    Method: The empirical material have been collected from a quantitative research in form of a survey, is was 83 participants who responded. Previous research and literature have made it possible to relate the answers from the survey to factors affecting workplace health in the strategy of followship.

    Result: The result show that there are many factors that influence workplace happiness. It showed that communication, affinity, relations, appreciation and personal development have connections with workplace happiness. Factors that influence in stress is trust in the manager and control of the workday.

    Conclusion: Followship is a good tool to prevent workplace related illnesses. Workplace health is a complex topic and many factors for workplace health affect each other, therefore should none aspect of followship be ignored.

    I grundskolan skiljer det sig mycket från elev till elev när det gäller konsten att behärska läsning. Då läsning är något som tränas genom övning är det oftast de som tycker det är svårt som håller sig borta från läsandet. DAISY är ett format som erbjuder läsare att, samtidigt som de läser en text, få den uppläst. Genom att presentera text både visuellt och auditivt kan fokus tas bort från själva ordavkodningen, vilket är det som de flesta i läs- och skrivsvårigheter har problem med. I detta arbete undersöktes läshastighet, läsförståelse och läseffektivitet på 18 åttondeklassare, varav sju uppvisade olika grader av läs- och skrivsvårigheter. Resultaten mellan när de läste en text med DAISY och när de läste en text utan DAISY jämfördes. Resultatet visade att deltagarna läste långsammare med DAISY än utan. De i läs- och skrivsvårigheter hade dock både en större läsförståelse och läseffektivitet när de använde DAISY.

    Vi har kommit fram till att de flesta människor är miljömedvetna och intresserade av att återvinna pantenheter och hjälpa till med välgörenhet, men för att maximera deras goda gärningar krävs att de har full insyn i vart de insamlade pengarna tar vägen samt att de vill ha möjlighet att välja till vilket ändamål pengarna ska skänkas. Vi har genom en enkät på 19 frågor sammanställt våra respondenters svar och härlett dessa svar till undersökta teorier. Undersökningen har gjorts med hjälp av en kvantitativ enkätundersökning med målet att se deras syn på återvinning, miljö och välgörenhet. Vi ville även se om och vilka faktorer som kan påverka människor för ökad medvetenhet och intresse att göra en god gärning. Till undersökningen valde vi att titta närmare på olika teorier inom Socialt beteende, Påverkanstaktik, Miljö, Återvinning och Välgörenhet. Denna undersökning kan ligga till grund för vidare undersökningar inom områdena Återvinning, Miljö och Påverkan. Undersökningen skulle kunna användas för att se ett intresse för etablering av verksamhet som omhändertar pantenheter. Undersökningen skulle även kunna användas för att i större utsträckning mäta människors beteende inom dessa områden. Undersökningen kan även användas till informationssyfte för att väcka tankar och öka förståelse för hur mycket en återlämning gör för miljö och välfärd.

    Background: Cancer is a disease with over 200 different types. Treatment with cytostatics is common, cancer cells are attacked, but the healthy cells can also be affected. This result in different side effects that can affect the life quality in a negative way, although many of the side effects are minor.  The primary role as a nurse is to work for the protection of health and wellbeing in the patient care.

    Purpose: The purpose was to describe patient experiences of having side effects in chemotherapy.

    Method: The study was based on a qualitative method where autobiographies with a narrative quality has been studied.

    Result: The result show four themes that include experiences about having side effects in chemotherapy. The result also show the experiences about how side effects give limitations in life, experiences about how the feelings to the side effects are different from day to day and the importance of support through side effects. The themes presented in the result together show the experiences of having side effects in chemotherapy.

    Conclusion: Through an insight into the experiences, the nurse can meet and understand the patient's individual need for support and thereby prevent suffering of side effects during chemotherapy.

    Many maintenance policies have been proposed for refreshing a warehouse. The difficulties of selecting an appropriate maintenance policy for a specific scenario with specific source characteristics, user requirements etc. has triggered researcher to develop algorithms and cost-models for predicting cost associated with a policy and a scenario. In this dissertation, we develop a benchmarking tool for testing scenarios and retrieve real world data that can be compared against algorithms and cost-models. The approach was to support a broad set of configurations, including the support of source characteristics proposed in [ENG00], to be able to test a diversity set of scenarios.

    There are a few storytelling methods for video games. The most common forms are linear and branching narratives, but there is one method not used to the same extent, known as emergent narrative. This study uses and artifact to explore emergent narrative using systems known as Drama Managers that aim to control the sequence of events in a game to create a narrative. The purpose of the study was to explore if a simplified drama manager could produce emergent narratives. The conclusion is that elements of emergence could be identified, but the artifact could not be considered to contain an emergent narrative. This knowledge could be used to help define the difference between emergent and branching narratives.

    The development of modal meanings has been an important topic in the literature on semantic change and evidence exists for a diachronic relation between root and non-root (epistemic) meanings. However, there is less certainty regarding the details and potential causes of this development. This chapter contributes to this discussion by considering the development of the Swedish modal 'may', arguing that the concept of force-dynamics can explain the relations among different modal meanings. The assumption is that a general image-schema in terms of forces and barriers underlies and motivates the root as well as the non-root meanings. Morever, I show how the schema may be transferred to and used in different kinds of semantic/conceptual domains.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis investigates the development of root and non-root meanings of modal verbs through an empirical study of the verbs and kunna in Old Swedish. Modality is taken to refer domains in which possibility contrasts with necessity. In Old Swedish, (magha) and kunna 'may' and kunna 'can' have the potential to express most of the meanings relating to possibility and necessity, as well as lexical meanings.

    The two verbs are investigated in an Old Swedish corpus consisting of legal and religious texts. Certain default correlations between type of modal and semantic and syntatic enviroments, which have been proposed in the litterature, are investigated.

    The result shows that frequently expresses participant-internal possibility, 'ability' and deonic possibility, 'permission', whereas kunna is mainly associated with participant-internal and general external possibility. Of particular interest is the use of in conditions, which provides evidence that this construction type may have played a bridging role in the development on non-root modality.

    Using the framework of force dynamics, the development of modal meaning is analysed as a metamorphical transfer of one consistent image-schema between different conceptual domains. the schematic components are described in terms of forces and barriers. The proposed transfer from a physical to a social domain and further on to a mental and a conversional domain provides a good account of the diachronic development.

    Abstract [en]

    In the age of the Internet and a changing semiotic landscape, reading and writing become increasingly complex activities in school. ICT have to be considered as a partner in the daily pedagogies. Digital media and new forms of communication are of great interest for literacy researches, particularly within the area of research that has come to be called New literacies. This article presents the results of a survey in which we asked 320 pupils about their use of information technology as part of daily literacy activities in and outside school. The study is inspired by an American study among young adolescents in New York (Agee & Altarriba 2009), but based on a wider range of ages: between 10-16 years. Our results show some significant differences in the pupils’ literacy activities based on factors such as gender, age, and attitudes towards reading and writing. Of particular interest is one group that distinguishes itself by having a negative attitude to reading and writing even though spending much time on digital literacies in and outside school.
