    Abstract [en]

    Embedded industries have invested a lot in the introduction of software product lines in their software development. In addition, using open source software appears to be a profitable way to obtain good software. This is also applicable for organizations doing product line engineering. On the other hand, because of the diverse use of open source software, product line development is an attractive way of working in open source communities. In fact, the configuration mechanisms used in open source communities may be applicable within software product lines as well. In addition, product line organisations are usually involved in distributed development, which works very efficiently within open source communities. However, at present, there is limited interaction between the open source and product line development communities. The aim for the workshop is to explore what the two communities can learn from each other and to develop a better understanding of how the two communities can benefit from each other. The workshop deals with the following issues:

    –  Community: Ownership, control and management of product line assets in an open source community –  Visibility of the code: when it is valuable to share proprietary code and how to take the right decision. –  Architecture Views: Creation of different levels of architecture visibility: proprietary, among closed consortium, public. Is this possible? –  Product line requirements roadmaps and planning in open source development –  Variability management: Using the open source community to evolve components and being explicit about variability –  Variability representation: in an open source community –  Deployment: Open source for the platform and in applications –  Heterogeneous processes: Cohabitation of product line management and agile processes –  Tools: Open source asset management tools in product line development –  Domain and application engineering and their meaning in an open source context –  Recovery and recognition of a product line in an open source asset base –  Legal: Aspects dealing with evolutionary, variability or distribution of development relating to legal risks involving: liability, warranties, patent infringements etc.

    Abstract [en]

    This study presents a literature analysis of 52 publications on the topic of information fusion performance evaluation. The aim is to identify whether information fusion researchers are aware of the problematic nature of performance evaluation in practice, which is substantially different from performance evaluation in test environments. As expected, only 6% of the publications do actually report on studies conducted in practice, and therefore more such studies are needed. However, 58% of the publications do critically reflect on the problematic nature of performance evaluation in practice. As ground truth is lacking in practice, there is a need for (a set of) performance measures which are both comprehensive and adaptable to domain or situation context and changing circumstances over time. More studies need to address the overall question how multiple performance measures can function in concert and how exactly can be judged whether adaptation has been an improvement or not.

    Abstract [en]

    The results of a 6-year action research study on developing crisis management preparedness in Swedish municipalities reveal strong connections rather than sharp distinctions between crisis and non-crisis on interpretive, temporal and organizational dimensions. Confusion and debate about what is labelled as a crisis, when everyday ends and crisis begins, and who and who are not involved, may illuminate different views on what the scale, scope and inherent complexity of our' system is in crisis and in non-crisis. Crises are not only a brutal audit for the practitioners involved, but also for the scientific theories that explain crisis behaviour. Current definitions of crisis understate the subjective nature of interpretations of crisis and organizing. To better understand the muddiness of organizing, crisis management researchers might aim for portraying more feed-forward messiness in crisis study descriptions and applying less hindsight bias in their analyses. Such images could help practitioners realize that organizing is more complex and less controllable than currently might be pictured and assumed. A deeper exploration of concepts like duality, competing values and complex adaptive systems could serve both practitioners and researchers.

    Abstract [en]

    Champions are commonly suggested as a means of promoting the adoption of information systems. Since there are many different definitions of the concepts of champion and champion behaviour in the literature, practitioners and researchers may be confused about how to exactly use these concepts. A qualitative analysis of a single case study in a Swedish health-care organisation enabled us to explain how different champion behaviours relate to each other and how multiple champions interact. Combining our rich case observations with an analysis of champion literature reveals how champion behaviours form a coherent and meaningful whole in which networks of different types of champions at different levels in an organisation utilise their network of relations, their knowledge of the organisation and their insight into strategic decision-making politics to time and orchestrate the framing of innovations and the involvement of the right people. In conclusion, championing is a complex performance of contextually dependent collective social interaction, varying over time, rather than a heroic act of one individual promoting an idea. Future studies need to focus more on how the relations between different champions and their behaviours develop across innovations and over time, in order to develop a richer understanding of championing.

    Critical infrastructures become more and more entangled and rely extensively on information technology. Adeeper insight into the relationships between critical infrastructures enables the actors involved to more quicklyunderstand the severity of information technology disruptions and to identify robust cross-functional mitigatingactions. This study illustrates how and why disruptions in the payment system in Sweden could create cascadingeffects in other critical infrastructures with potentially severe consequences for many citizens, governmentinstitutions and companies. Data from document studies, interviews and workshops with field experts revealseven challenges for collective cross-functional critical infrastructure resilience that need to be dealt with: 1)Shortage of food, fuel, cash, medicine; 2) Limited capacity of alternative payment solutions; 3) Cities are morevulnerable than the countryside; 4) Economically vulnerable groups in society are more severely affected; 5)Trust maintenance needs; 6) Crisis communication needs; 7) Fragmentation of responsibility for criticalinfrastructures across many actors.

    Abstract [en]

    ICT provide opportunities to improve organizational performance. However, many organizations still struggle with integrating new organizational structures, new work practices and ICT, because information systems (and other tools) that support organizational work processes are embedded in the existing culture and work practices. The adoption of ICT by an organization is a complex interaction between task-, technology-, group internal system-, and organizational context factors. Organizational prototyping helps to develop ‘embedded’ information systems. It involves managing a dual process of both adapting the tool to the organization and adapting the work practice to conditions of the tool. In an action research study at the Amsterdam Police Force we developed two simulation-games that served as ‘organizational prototypes’ and supported the analysis and improvement of coordination practices and the integration of (new) ICT in these coordination practices. The first game has been played 9 20 times with 8-15 policemen; the second game has been played 2 times with a similar number of policemen. In this paper we reflect on the design of the games. We explain how and why we have dealt with issues like for instance complexity of the game, number of players, degree of realism, amount of time for reflection, time pressure, et cetera. Next we show the impact of these design choices for the game execution and game results. Finding the right balance between realism/validity on one hand and not too much complexity on the other hand proofs to be the major design challenge. Furthermore some surprising results were that distributed work can perfectly be simulated in one location, that computer support does not distract from learning objectives when the technology functions properly, and that time constraints may inhibit learning.

    Resilience of interdependent infrastructures increasingly depends on collaborative responses from actors with diverse backgrounds that may not be familiar with cascade effects into areas beyond their own sector. A simulation-game can enable societal actors to obtain a deeper understanding of the interdependencies between their respective infrastructures and their respective crisis responses. Following a design science approach, a simulation-game has been developed that combines role-playing simulation and computer simulation. The simulation-game challenges participants to address the interaction between payment disruptions, food and fuel supply, security problems (riots, robberies) and communication challenges (preventing hoarding). The game has been played on 15 occasions with representatives from different sectors in society and the game design has been changed iteratively after each playing-session. The paper reflects on the impact of initial design choices and the effects on later modifications. Finally, it is discussed how the current version of the game serves multiple purposes: awareness raising, education of participants, model validation, identification of new mitigating actions, and development of collective critical infrastructure resilience in society.

    A disruption in one critical infrastructure can quickly lead to cascading effects in several other ones. Much research has been done to analyze dependencies between different critical infrastructures, but little is known about how to mitigate escalation and cascading effects across several critical infrastructures, i.e. how to develop collective critical infrastructure resilience. This research presents the results of 15 simulation-games where groups of 6 to 8 field experts from different sectors were challenged to collaboratively manage a disruption in the payment system that quickly affected food distribution, fuel distribution, transport, health care et cetera. Teams discussed possible strategies, which next were implemented in a computer simulation. Teams could influence the sequence of events on 4 decision points during a 10 day scenario, and play the same scenario several times to test alternative solutions. Each simulation-game session lasted a full day. Data analysis involved the recorded team discussions as well as computer simulation logs of the implemented decisions and their impacts. The results show how escalation and the severity of cascading effects largely depends on the quality of the early crisis response and not so much on the initial disruption. Also, it is shown how cross sectorial collaboration is required. Responses where groups focus too much on cascading effects in one area lead too poor overall performance for society at large. Groups tend to overbalance their mitigating strategies initially, until they arrive at a more balanced strategy that covers challenges in several different critical infrastructures from an integral perspective.

    Swedish municipalities are stimulated to conduct emergency management exercises in addition to developing crisis plans. These exercises tend to be grounded in an instrumental philosophy. There is too much focus on doing the exercise and too little attention for the implementation of lessons learned afterwards. A common experience is that the same 'mistakes' are discovered again and again in yearly exercises. Furthermore there is a paradoxical balance between empowering the organization in its learning process (positive feedback) and revealing the failures (negative feedback). In this paper we reflect on the learning process in a Swedish municipality in 2006 where two emergency management exercises were held and where a minor and a major crisis occured during the year. We argue that the longitudinal learning process should be the focus in stead of ad hoc exercises. In addition we develop some requirements for emergency management training from a 'passion for failures' perspective.

    This paper reports on a brainstorming workshop with subject matter experts that aimed at identifying potential anomalies for world wide maritime surveillance. An extensive description of the workshop process and output is presented. The evaluation consists of two parts. First, the output of the workshop is compared with the output of a similar workshop as presented in Roy [1]. Secondly, the methodological differences between capturing know-how of subject matter experts in a workshop versus observing daily work of operators, as applied in Nilsson et al [2], is discussed. The conclusions are that brainstorming workshops and field studies should be combined to compensate for their weaknesses. Also, the outcomes of both methods heavily depend on the selection of operators to be observed, respectively the selection of subject matter experts invited. A final recommendation is that multiple studies and workshops are needed until no ‘new’ anomalies are identified.

    The purpose of information fusion is to support and improve decision making. However, theories of decision making differ significantly on their view of what a good decision actually is. Hence, depending on which decision making theory one (un)consciously adopts there are different requirements for information fusion as decision support Information fusion researchers and practitioners should therefore be more explicit about their assumptions regarding decision making by carefully describing their theoretical frameworks. To illustrate this point the 'theory of sensemaking' by Karl Weick is presented as one example of a decision making theory. Major differences between decision making assumptions in that theory and assumptions common in much information fusion research are highlighted. Implications and challenges for information fusion are discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this study is to investigate whether some feedback systems are better at encouraging moral reflection than other in digital games. A small game was developed, which was then made into three versions, each with different feedback systems. A total of 35 people participated in the study. The results indicate that color coding the game’s options decrease the moral reflection, while some feedback in form more ambiguous text is still positively perceived.

    För att kunna anpassa ett spel så bra som möjligt för den tilltänkta målgruppen är det viktigt för speldesigners att förstå vad som motiverar spelare till att spela. Huvudsyftet med detta arbete är att undersöka hur olika spelare utformar sina rollspelskaraktärer och hur dessa spelare skiljer sig åt trots att de spelar samma spel. För att undersöka detta har testdeltagare fått skapa rollspelskaraktärer och sedan motiverat sina val. Ur studien framkom det att spelare prioriterar olika aspekter av sitt karaktärskapande samt att de inte bemödar sig med delar som de finner ointressanta. Fortsatt forskning skulle kunna titta närmare på huruvida kosmetik och immersion hör ihop med tanke på att vissa testdeltagare uppgav att immersion var en stark motivation för dem samtidigt som de inte lade något värde i de kosmetiska aspekterna.

    This dissertation evaluates the artificial neural technique for evolving a smart antenna system. The AI techniques pose a challenging research in the field of communication. As such the antennas help to communicate with the digital processor to choose the desired signals and reject the others. It makes its own decision even to find the level of interferences and noises to be discarded by amplitude elimination process through the use of perceptron optimization algorithms like LMS (Least Mean Squares). This method helps to enhance the performance of signal processing efficiently. The design of hardware and software are quite complex. This is due to the fact, that the behaviour of the system is not fully understood being a real-time dependent system. This research work is carried only on software with certain simulated activity on beam-formation algorithm and as well, the system responses before and after using the adaptive algorithm. In this report, we try to concentrate to work on the method of adaptivity to make antenna adaptable to a virtual form of real-time environment. For, this reason a two-element antenna is used for simulation testing, as it is the most commonly used antenna for all purposes in communication. It is also tested on various scanning levels of rotation to determine the learning rate (a parameter that has no effect on the radiation output after using LMS) mean-square error rates and convergence analysis. For the purpose of above mentioned tests, three hypotheses are framed in relation to side-lobe reduction level above 5 decibels, the narrowing of the beam after adaptivity and finally the response of the main beam output for varying values of learning rate, respectivelty. The given research work, may comprehend good practical use of this LMS algorithm and also to indicate antenna patterns and the responses to adaptivity conditions through clarity in graphical format.

    The method is influenced to reduce computational complexity and bring simplicity to the functionality of the antenna with more efficient and effective adaptivness. An effort to test theoretical concepts in practice is also been made in this thesis work. The results show that the antenna system can be made to evolve itself through the process of adaptation with simple behaviour by relying on artificial intelligence technique which ensures little supervision and human intereference. Eventually, it is understood that the reader should have possessed prior concepts, related to antennas, digital signal processing and its practical usage in artificially intelligent systems and as well the exceptions in it, since the work is explained in the direct level assuming so.

    Ett verktyg för datorstödd interaktiv utbildning, Web-based Training, har utvecklats på Sigma Information Design. Två olika utvärderingsmetoder har använts för att öka dess användbarhet: heuristisk utvärdering och användartestning. Heuristisk utvärdering är en analytisk metod där expertutvärderare inspekterar gränssnittet för att predicera (förutse) användbarhetsproblem. Användartestning är en empirisk metod där tänkbara reella användare deltar och användbarhetsproblem observeras. Föreliggande studie fokuserar på användbarhets-

    problem som både prediceras med den analytiska metoden och observeras med den empiriska, så kallade ”träffar”.

    Analytiska metoder predicerar användbarhetsproblem genom att utpeka bristande ”intrinsic features”

    (gränssnittsegenskaper). Empiriska metoder observerar istället ”payoff features”, för att kunna identifiera användbarhetsproblem och sedan relatera dessa till bristande gränssnitts-egenskaper. Frågeställningen är om analytiska- respektive empiriska metoder utpekar samma bristande ”intrinsic feature” vid identifiering av en ”träff”. Utvärdering av verktyget med respektive utvärderingsmetod har genomförts. Under användartesterna påträffades endast ett fåtal användbarhetsproblem, vilket har medfört att ett litet antal ”träffar” identifierats för att kunna ge svar på frågeställningen. Det finns dock indikationer på en oklar korrespondens mellan metoderna.

    Examensarbetet har sin ansats i utvecklingsmetoder närmare bestämt den lättrörliga utvecklingsmetoden Extreme Programming (XP). Beståndsdelen i en utvecklingsmetod är människorna, deras erfarenheter och kunnande samt deras förmåga att skapa idéer och lösa problem såväl enskilt som tillsammans. Utan nödvändig kompetens inom utvecklingsteamen ökar risken att utvecklingsprojekten misslyckas eller försenas. Syftet med detta arbete är att utifrån intervjuer med systemutvecklare undersöka vilka nödvändiga kompetenser som är nödvändiga för att XP skall kunna användas på ett effektivt sätt, även att uppmärksamma vilka problem som kan uppstå då den sociala kompetensen saknas. Metoden som har använts för att undersöka vilka faktorer som är nödvändiga i avseende till kompetenser är baserad på en kvalitativ ansats. Undersökningen har gjorts på två medelstora företag som använder XP vid utveckling av programvara. I stora drag har resultatet från denna undersökning utifrån intervjuer visat att social kompetens är viktig hos medarbetarna för att uppnå ett lyckat resultat. I ett projekt där samarbete med kunden sker kontinuerligt är det nödvändigt att systemutvecklarna har en god kommunikation vilken grundar sig på den sociala kompetensen. Slutsatser som kan dras från denna undersökning utifrån det empiriska materialet visar att social kompetens utgör en central roll inom XP. Systemutvecklare som använder XP behöver kunna kommunicera på ett klart och tydligt sätt, samt kunna samarbeta med övriga gruppmedlemmar för att projekten skall drivas framåt. I resultaten berörs även ytterligare kompetenser som kan vara till nytta vid användning av XP. Vidare redogörs för faktorer som kan vidtas för att uppnå kraven.

    Introduction

    Mobile devices and software are now available with sufficient computing power, speed and complexity to allow for real-time interpretation of radiology exams. In this paper, we perform a multivariable user study that investigates concordance of image-based diagnoses provided using mobile devices on the one hand and conventional workstations on the other hand.

    Methods

    We performed a between-subjects task-analysis using CT, MRI and radiography datasets. Moreover, we investigated the adequacy of the screen size, image quality, usability and the availability of the tools necessary for the analysis. Radiologists, members of several teams, participated in the experiment under real work conditions. A total of 64 studies with 93 main diagnoses were analyzed.

    Results

    Our results showed that 56 cases were classified with complete concordance (87.69%), 5 cases with almost complete concordance (7.69%) and 1 case (1.56%) with partial concordance. Only 2 studies presented discordance between the reports (3.07%). The main reason to explain the cause of those disagreements was the lack of multiplanar reconstruction tool in the mobile viewer. Screen size and image quality had no direct impact on the mobile diagnosis process.

    Conclusion

    We concluded that for images from emergency modalities, a mobile interface provides accurate interpretation and swift response, which could benefit patients' healthcare.

    Visualizing and Explaining Cluster Patterns: A Framework for the Exploratory Analysis of Large Multidimensional Datasets2019Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Large quantities of data are being collected and analyzed by companies and institutions, with the intention of drawing knowledge and value. Advances in storage, computation, automated analysis and visual and interactive techniques have facilitated this process. It is, however, not always transparent on how these can be brought together for the effective and efficient exploration, monitoring and/or processing of data. That is, knowing which automated techniques and frameworks to use for a given task, how to deploy them and integrate them, how to interpret their results and processes, and how to ease their use through visual and interactive techniques.

    In the context of exploratory data analysis, where users approach data without preconceived hypotheses, this thesis proposal argues for the benefit of a framework describing the components, techniques and relations that contribute to the visualization and explanation of cluster patterns in large and multidimensional datasets. That is, a Visual Analytics framework aimed at supporting data scientists in their first steps towards understanding the overall structure of a dataset. The problem area is large and, therefore, the scope is limited to the visualization of cluster patterns in table-like datasets with meaningful attributes.

    This thesis proposal motivates the relevance of conducting research for the development of such framework. It formalizes a set of research questions and presents a research plan based on the design science research method. Moreover, it provides a description of preliminary results as well as related background theory and state-of-the-art research.

    Abstract [en]

    Visual Analytics has brought forward many solutions to different tasks such as exploring topics, understanding user and customer behavior, comparing genomes, or detecting anomalies. Many of these solutions, if not most, are standalone applications with technological contributions which cannot be easily taken for: reuse in other domains, further improvement, benchmarking, or integration and deployment alongside other solutions. The latter can prove specially helpful for exploratory data analysis. This often leads researchers to re-implement solutions and thus to a suboptimal use of skills and resources. This paper discusses further the lack of off-the-shelf libraries for Visual Analytics, and proposes the creation of pluggable libraries on top of existing technologies such as Spark and Zeppelin. We provide an illustrative example of a pluggable, Visual Analytics library using these technologies.

    Abstract [en]

    Objective: The NALP3 inflammasome is a multiprotein complex that triggers caspase 1–mediated interleukin-1β (IL-1β) release. Mutations in the gene encoding NALP3 (NLRP3) underlie the cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome (CAPS). The aim of this study was to report a novel NLRP3 mutation in 2 siblings of Swedish descent in whom symptoms first presented in adulthood.

    Methods: Mutation analysis of NLRP3 was performed on DNA from patients with CAPS and 100 control subjects. For assessment of caspase 1 and IL-1β, blood was collected from patients and age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects. Genetic constructs containing mutant or wild-type NLRP3 were transduced into THP-1 cells, followed by assessment of IL-1β levels in cell supernatant.

    Results: Both siblings carried a novel M299V mutation in NLRP3, which was not present in the control population. The samples obtained from the patients displayed increased caspase 1 activity and elevated IL-1β levels at basal conditions as compared with healthy control subjects. THP-1 cells expressing mutated M299V revealed almost 10-fold higher IL-1β production compared with the wild-type construct.

    Conclusion: M299V is an activating mutation in NLRP3 resulting in elevated spontaneous caspase 1 activity and IL-1β levels. The classic CAPS phenotype was lacking in these adult siblings. Whereas one sibling displayed a milder phenotype that has so far responded satisfactorily to oral nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs in combination with low-dose corticosteroids, the inflammatory symptoms in the sibling with the more severe case responded well to IL-1β blockade. Understanding the pathogenic mechanism underlying such disorders can be helpful for the physician. Our study reinforces the importance of genetic testing and laboratory investigations in combination with careful phenotypic evaluation for the diagnosis of such patients.

    In the enactive paradigm of cognitive science, development plays a crucial role in the realization of cognition. This position runs counter to the computational functionalism upon which cognitivist and classical artificial intelligence systems are founded, especially the assumption that cognition can be achieved by embedding pre-formed knowledge. The enactive stance involves a progressive phased transition from cognitive capacity to cognitive capability, highlighting the role of development in extending the timescale of a cognitive agent’s prospective abilities and in expanding its repertoire of effective action. We review briefly some necessary conditions for cognitive development, drawing on examples from developmental psychology, illustrating the ideas by looking at the ontogenesis of instru- mental helping and collaboration in infants, and identifying some of the essential elements of a developmental cognitive architecture. We then focus on the fact that enactive sys- tems are operationally-closed, autonomous, and self-maintaining. Consequently, there are organizational constitutive processes at play as well as behavioural ones. Reconciling these complementary processes poses a significant challenge for the creation of complete model of development that must show how constitutive autonomy is compatible with and may even give rise to behavioural autonomy. We conclude by drawing attention to recent research which could provide a way of addressing this challenge.

    Based on the unique traits of biological motion perception, the existence of a “life detector”, a special sensitivity to perceiving motion patterns typical for animals, seems to be plausible (Johnson, 2006). Showing motion displays upside-down or with changes in global structure is known to disturb processing in different ways, but not much is known yet about how inversion affects attention and incidental processing. To examine the perception of upright and inverted point-light walkers regarding incidental processing, we used a flanker paradigm (Eriksen & Eriksen, 1974) adapted for biological motion (Thornton & Vuong, 2004), and extended it to include inverted and scrambled figures. Results show that inverted walkers do not evoke incidental processing and they allow high accuracy in performance only when attentional capacities are not diminished. An asymmetrical interaction between upright and inverted figures is found which alludes to qualitatively different pathways of processing.

    Att använda samplat tal i datorprogram blir allt vanligare vilket leder in på frågan om detta är av godo. Kan tal och text kombineras i en datorapplikation för att skapa effektivare inlärning eller bör en sådan kombination undvikas? För att utreda detta studerades teorier rörande inlärning, cues, kognitiva flaskhalsar samt automatisk informationsbehandling. Utifrån dessa teorier drogs slutsatsen att en kombination av text och tal inte ger en effektivare inlärning. För att undersöka detta empiriskt genomfördes ett kvantitativt experiment med 60 experimentdeltagare i åldrarna 11-13 år. Experimentdeltagarna studerade ett inlärningsmaterial vilket utgjordes av fakta om ett imaginärt land. Deltagarna testades sedan och deras resultat jämfördes utifrån om de läst, lyssnat eller både läst och lyssnat på inlärningsmaterialet.

    We describe a novel system for automatic extraction of typological linguistic information from descriptive grammars of natural languages, applying the theory of frame semantics in the form of frame-semantic parsing. The current proof-of-concept system covers a few selected linguistic features, but the methodology is general and can be extended not only to other typological features but also to descriptive grammars written in languages other than English. Such a system is expected to be a useful assistance for automatic curation of typological databases which otherwise are built manually, a very labor and time consuming as well as cognitively taxing enterprise.

    Attention is one of the key factors in both hypnotic processes and patients with ADHD. In addition, the brain areas associated with hypnosis and ADHD overlap in many respects. However, the use of hypnosis in ADHD patients has still received only minor attention in research. The main purpose of the present work was to investigate whether hypnosis and hypnotic suggestions influence the performance of adult ADHD (n = 27) and control participants (n = 31) in the continuous performance test (CPT). The hypnotic susceptibility of the participants was measured by the Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility (HGSHS:A) and the attentional task was a three minute long auditory version of the CPT. The CPT task was administered four times: before hypnosis (CPT1), after a hypnotic induction (CPT2), after suggestions about speed and accuracy (CPT3), and after the termination of hypnosis (CPT4). The susceptibility of the groups measured by HGSHS:A did not differ. There was a statistically significant decrease in reaction times in both ADHD and control groups between CPT2 and CPT3. The differences between CPT1 and CPT2, even though non-significant, were different in the two groups: in the ADHD group reaction times decreased whereas in the control group they increased. Both groups made very few errors in the short CPT. This study indicates that hypnotic suggestions have an effect on reaction times in the sustained attention task both in adult ADHD patients and control subjects. The theoretical and clinical implications are discussed.

    The Kinect device is commonly associated to videogames, but this is not the only purpose of this device. Going into more depth, it could be a powerful tool to accomplish several goals, not only related to simple games. One such example could be Serious Games. Above all, Kinect device is a group of sensors and as such it is an attraction point in order to do experiments and measurements. This thesis tries to understand the potentiality and specifically tries to understand the precision and accuracy in the explicit area of rehabilitation. Taking advantage of the Kinect functionality, the thesis tries to enter in a young area, composed by two principal field of interest: catching and recognizing movements without the help of tool to wear, and the movements in order to do physical therapy. The result of this thesis is that the accuracy and precision of the Kinect device is sufficient for detecting therapeutic movements. Further work is however needed to be able to use Kinect for automatic discrimination of correct and incorrect physical movements.

    Detta arbetets syfte är att klargöra om ett företag kan få sin lönsamhet ökad genom att låta kunderna påverka produktdesign eller genom att anpassa produktdesign till produktionskrav. För att kunna dra slutsatser utifrån problemformuleringen har intervjuer genomförts i fyra företag som agerar i olika branscher och tillverkar produkter där designen spelar relativt stor roll.

    Slutsatserna är i stort sett att företagen idag inte har användarorienterad design, men allting tyder på att detta kommer att ändras i framtiden. Konkurrensen har blivit allt hårdare och nya krav på tilltalande design tillkommer hela tiden. Tack vare användarorienterad design skulle ett företag kunna öka sin lönsamhet på lång sikt, men det skulle troligtvis ta några år innan dess, och företaget skulle tvingas arbeta irrationellt under denna period.

    Genom att helt anpassa produktdesign till produktionskrav skulle ett företag kunna öka sin lönsamhet och därmed tillverka fler kvalitetsprodukter och ha nöjda kunder.

    Detta examensarbete behandlar ämnet elektronisk handel på Internet och fokuserar på uppfattningar kring säkerheten inom detta område.

    Elektronisk handel på Internet är fortfarande en relativt ny företeelse som snabbt sprider ut sig. Trots detta finns det vissa faktorer som hämmar utvecklingen inom området. En av dessa faktorer är att säkerheten i samband med Internethandeln inte uppfattas som tillräckligt hög av potentiella kunder. Detta examensarbete undersöker hur uppfattningarna om säkerheten i samband med Internethandel ser ut i dagsläget.

    För att erhålla svar på min problemställning har jag dels intervjuat ett antal företag och dels ett antal privatpersoner.

    Jag har kommit fram till att företag som idkar Internethandel anser att deras tjänster är tillräckligt säkra i dagsläget. Privatpersonerna däremot, anser att det inte går att lita på säkerheten hos alla företag på Internet. För att lösa detta krävs att allmänheten på något sätt blir medveten om att säkerheten är tillräckligt hög, som den också är enligt företagen själva.

    hur påverkar det spelarna som deltar? Den här studien tar upp hur rollspel i et 

    MMORPG kan gå tll, hur det kan användas i skapande utanför spelets gränser samt 

    hur de deltagande ser på sin egen medverkan i skapandet av en berätelse genom 

    rollspel. Undersökningen har gåt ut på at under en td delta i rollspel för at sedan 

    använda de intryck och händelser som sket inom spelets ramar för at skriva en text. 

    Därefer har rollspelare intervjuats angående en rad olika områden som berör 

    rollspel och hur de ser på det. Slutligen så sammanfatas spelarnas egna upplevelser 

    och de slutsatser som kan dras utfrån dessa kan användas som en grund inför 

    fortsata studier angående rollspel online.

    Abstract [en]

    A big problem in the world today is vaccine hesitancy (VH), a tool to combat this could be to use serious games (SG) as a tool for education. There has been some research into this field, these studies have mainly used a single game or looked at a series of games, and they have required quite a lot of interaction. A trivia can allow the player to focus on thinking rather than performing various tasks; even if both can be equally educational.

    In this work a platform game was developed and used together with a questionnaire to test the knowledge of the common person in regard to vaccines and vaccine preventable diseases. 20 people participated in this study, 10 in a control group and 10 in the game group.

    The results in this study show that there was no significant statistical difference between a serious platform game and a compendium when it comes to learning.

    Arbetets syfte är att undersöka berättelseformer i datorspel baserade på tillämpningen av sceneri, avgränsat till spelarens uppfattning av tid och plats. Utifrån de svårigheter som förknippas med framställningen av naturligt förfall och framställningen av teknologiska möjligheter har två hypoteser formulerats; då att spelaren främst skapar sig en uppfattning om spelets tidsperiod utifrån upplevt artificiella objekt, samt att spelaren främst skapar sig en uppfattning om spelets verklighetsförankring utifrån spelets miljö. För undersökningens syfte har en virtuell miljö framställts i tre olika versioner, de två första avsedda att testa arbetets hypoteser avskilt, den senare avsedd att testa båda i samma miljö. Undersökningen har skett genom testspelning av dessa av totalt 30 testdeltagare. Undersökningens resultat styrker arbetets hypoteser, då den första i högre grad än den andra, men påvisar även svårigheter förknippade med sammanförandet av de metoder som tillämpats.

    Medhjälpar-AI blir allt mer vanligt i dagens spel och främst används de som substitut till en mänsklig spelare i spel med olika typer av samarbetslägen. Det finns med andra ord ett behov att utforska detta område, både när det gäller olika AI-tekniker och metoder för förbättring av hur medhjälpar-AI:n upplevs. Genetiska algoritmer är en AI-teknik som simulerar evolution, vilket är användbart i flera områden. Det här arbetet undersöker om genetiska algoritmer kan fungera som basis till en medhjälpar-AI som anpassar sig efter spelarens prestation i realtid.

    Experimentmiljön som används är ett enkelt actionspel, där en spelare tillsammans med medhjälpare ska samla poäng. Beroende på en medhjälpares poäng i förhållande till spelaren, ändrar medhjälparen skicklighetsnivå dynamiskt under spelets gång.

    Utvärderingen visar att genetiska algoritmer fungerar bra som utgångspunkt till ändamålet. Med andra ord visar arbetet att genetiska algoritmer har god potential att fungera bra som grundstruktur för mer avancerad medhjälpar-AI.

    Arbetet undersöker prestanda och estetik hos A*PS och Theta* inom olika miljötyper, där miljötyper är ett generaliserat begrepp för spelmiljöer och innefattar en struktur samt ett antal blockerande objekt. Båda teknikerna är varianter av A*-algoritmen och används för att åstadkomma estetisk vägplanering. Vägplanering innebär att finna en kortaste väg från en punkt A till en punkt B i en graf. En populär grafrepresentation i spel är rutnät med blockerande och icke-blockerande noder. Ett problem med rutnät är att algoritmerna tenderar att planera sina vägar längst med kanterna och därav resultera i sicksackformade vägar. A*PS och Theta* löser detta genom att utföra estetiska optimeringar som tillåter vägplaneringen att göras längst med grafens kanter, men samtidigt inte låta vägarna begränsas till att direkt följa dessa. Med experiment visar arbetet att Theta* i majoriteten av fallen hittar kortare och mer realistiska vägar. Vidare föreslås framtida arbeten inom området.

    Migrationsverkets ökade intresse för User experience design i ett nytt projekt innebär stora möjligheter för användbarhet inom statliga myndigheter, men kräver att nya metoder och verktyg testas innan de kan införas. Bland annat är kontakt med användarna någonting Migrationsverket vill fortsätta med och förbättra i användbarhetssyfte. Detta arbete har i syfte att validera en persona av handläggare på Tillståndsenheter där handböcker ska omformas samt att hypotespröva en metod för att ta fram valida personor som lämpar sig i statliga myndigheter. En persona är en fiktiv version av den typiska användaren som tagits fram utifrån riktiga användare. Personorna som togs fram var av varierande kvalitet och lämpade för olika syften. En alternativ metod för att skapa personor med hög kvalitet togs fram genom att förse deltagare med mer information i en annan workshop. Resultatet visade att genom att förmedla bra information till deltagare kan de skapa representativa personor även när de inte närvarat vid datainsamling. Avslutningsvis ges fyra riktlinjer som kan följas för att öka kvaliteten på personan även när skaparen inte är samma person som den som intervjuar och analyserar. Riktlinjerna är att låta den som utfört intervjuerna med användare ta fram kategorier och underkategorier för personan, låta gruppen som ska använda personan skapa den åt sig själva, skapa fler än en persona för olika användare och hoppa över de attribut som inte finns behov av att använda.

    Detta examensarbete behandlar ämnet EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) och fokuserar på relationen mellan en grossist och dess leverantörer. EDI är ett sätt att elektroniskt överföra standardiserade dokument på, från ett datasystem till ett annat, utan eller med begränsad mänsklig inblandning.

    Arbetets syfte är att belysa viktiga aspekter angående EDI-förfarandet hos en stor grossist. Aspekter som behandlas avser det maktförhållande och krav som råder mellan en grossist och dess leverantörer, såsom att införa EDI eller inte, utnyttjandet av EDI, hur makten är fördelad samt hur framtiden påverkar. Undersökningen baseras på intervjuer från sex leverantörer till en grossist och en intervju med grossisten.

    EDI används i första hand till att hjälpa företagen att rationalisera sin verksamhet. Främst är det administrativ tid som sparas, felfrekvensen som minskas och möjligheter att göra en strategisk satsning som är huvudvinsterna. Problem kan vara att det blir ett överflöd av personal efter ett EDI-införande.

    The number of experimentally determined protein structures in the protein data bank (PDB) is continuously increasing. The common features like; cellular location, function, topology, primary structure, secondary structure, tertiary structure, domains or fold are used to classify them. Therefore, there are various methods available for classification of proteins. In this work we are attempting an additional method for making appropriate classification, i.e. solvent energy. Solvation is one of the most important properties of macromolecules and biological membranes by which they remain stabilized in different environments. The energy required for solvation can be measured in term of solvent energy. Proteins from similar environments are investigated for similar solvent energy. That is, the solvent energy can be used as a measure to analyze and classify proteins. In this project solvent energy of proteins present in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) was calculated by using Jones’ algorithm. The proteins were classified into two classes; transmembrane and globular. The results of statistical analysis showed that the values of solvent energy obtained for two main classes (globular and transmebrane) were from different sets of populations. Thus, by adopting classification based on solvent energy will definitely help for prediction of cellular placement.

    Examensarbetets frågeställning berör användarnas medverkan i Requirements Engineering (RE). Under RE-fasen skall samtliga krav på det kommande systemet tas fram från intressenterna. En viktig intressentgrupp i kravutvinningsarbetet är de kommande användarna av systemet. Resultatet av RE-fasen är en viktig faktor som påverkar hela den fortsatta utvecklingsprocessen samt hur lyckat det slutliga systemet blir.

    Detta examensarbete innebär en undersökning av vad användarrepresentanterna anser om use case-modelleringen i RE-processen. Undersökningen har påvisat att användarrepresentanterna är positiva till use case-modellering som arbetsmetod för att kartlägga kraven. För att besvara examensarbetets frågeställning har intervjuer med användarrepresentanter genomförts och de har givet vid handen att use case till viss del underlättar kommunikationen, men att det finns ett antal faktorer som försvårar och minskar användarens möjlighet att medverka i arbetet med use case-modelleringen.

    Undersökningen utförs genom en fallstudie inom Volvo Information Technology och de medverkande respondenterna kommer från tre olika projekt av varierande storlek.

Detta arbete går igenom och löser problem vilka uppstått när en migration mellan ett dokumenthanteringssystem till en webbapplikation görs. Men fokuseringen har riktats mot att hitta den bästa migrations och övergångsmetoden för att kunna skapa en bra, enkel och effektiv migration mellan ett dokumenthanteringssystem till en webbapplikation

    Det här arbetet handlar om införande av kvalitetssystem i ett företag och hur man i uppföljningsarbetet mäter resultatet av införandet. Genom att införa ett kvalitetssystem i företaget vill man få en bättre styrning och kontroll av verksamheten. Kunden ska på så sätt erbjudas en bättre produkt och, förhoppningsvis, till ett lägre pris.

    I samband med att man inför kvalitetssystemet, fastställer man även kvalitetsmål som står för de resultat man vill uppnå med ett införande. Dessa kvalitetsmål kan utformas som nyckeltal. Nyckeltalen används för att kontrollera om kvalitetsmålen har nåtts och de ska utformas så att de täcker alla funktioner i företaget.

    I mitt arbete har jag undersökt hur ett uppföljningsarbete kan gå till och detta har jag gjort med hjälp av intervjuer samt en litteraturstudie. Jag har studerat vilka konkreta nyckeltal som kan användas och vilka problem som kan uppstå i ett uppföljningsarbete. Vidare har jag undersökt hur mycket detta arbete underlättas om ett företag väljer att ISO 9000-certifiera sitt kvalitetssystem.

    Det som jag har kommit fram till med mitt arbete är att företag nästan helt uteslutande genomför ett uppföljningsarbete och att det kan uppstå en del problem. Ett ISO 9000-certifikat krävs om man vill behålla sina kunder, men det medför inte att ett företag kan driva sitt uppföljningsarbete på ett bättre sätt.

    Detta arbete undersöker synkroniseringstekniken dead reckoning i racingspel. Mer specifikt hur en variant, där objekts avstånd från varandra dynamiskt kontrollerar hur ofta de synkroniseras över nätverket, presterar gällande bandbreddsåtgång och konsistens jämfört med vanlig dead reckoning som alltid synkroniserar lika ofta. Det undersöks också hur banornas karaktär och egenskaper påverkar resultatet. Det visar sig att denna dynamiska dead reckoning har god potential att ge förbättringar gällande bandbreddsåtgång och att banornas utformning har stor inverkan över hur stor denna potential är.

    Distansutbildningar har ökat kraftigt under de senaste åren. Det finns flera aspekter som har möjliggjort denna ökning, och en av huvudfaktorerna är utveckling av olika kommunikationstekniker. Om inte denna tekniska infrastruktur hade utvecklats och gjort det möjligt att enkelt skicka information, hade expansionen för distansutbildningar varit betydligt mindre.

    För att få en välfungerande distansutbildning måste det finnas något slags IT-stöd som är länken mellan studenter och lärare. Dessa IT-stöd ligger till grund för kommunikation och informationsutbyte i en distansutbildning. Rapporten kommer behandla vilken betydelse IT-stödet har i en distansutbildning när det gäller kommunikation och informationsutbyte.

    För att komma fram till ett tänkbart resultat har intervjuundersökningen gjorts på lärare och experter på Högskolan i Skövde (His). Resultatet visar att stödet har betydelse men kanske inte är lika viktig i alla avseenden.

    Då konkurrensen blir allt hårdare bland företag, har kvalitet blivit ett allt viktigare konkurrensmedel. För att kunna ge hög kvalitet till sina kunder, måste företaget ha hög kvalitet internt. Allt fler företag inför därför ett kvalitetssystem som hjälpmedel för att styra kvaliteten åt rätt håll. Ett av de vanligaste kvalitetssystemen är ISO 9000. Detta examensarbete behandlar de förändringar som sker efter införandet av ISO 9000 i IT-företag.

    I undersökningen har fyra kvalitetsansvariga på fyra olika IT-företag intervjuats om vilka förändringar som har skett i deras företag. Förändringarna har varit ganska likartade mellan de olika företagen. Resultatet visar att de förändringar som sker är att företaget får ett bättre kvalitetsmedvetande, mer fokus på kvalitet till kund, bättre ordning och reda i företaget och fler revisioner.
