Grön marknadsföringsstrategi: påverkar den konsumenters miljöattityd gentemot fötetag?: En jämförande studie av företag med olika grad av grön marknadsföringsstrategi2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Previous research shows that consumers in general have become more aware of the environmental problems that may occur, with an increased consumption. More and more companies have begun to refocus their marketing strategies to create a greener identity. This is a response to consumers demands for greener alternatives. The companies are investing substantial resources to implement these strategies. A problem that therefore needs to be examined is whether it really do any good for the companies in the end, to use green marketing strategies.

The study examines if consumers have greener attitudes toward a company (Max), which has a marketing strategy that is greener than it’s main competitors’ (Burger King and McDonalds).

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out whether consumers of Generation Y's attitudes differ between companies with different degrees of green marketing strategies.

Method: The study is based on a deductive approach with a quantitative method. Data has been collected in the form of a questionnaire survey with 152 respondents aged 21-39 years.

Conclusion: The study shows that a company with a well-established green marketing strategy (Max) is perceived as greener by the consumers, than it’s main competitors (Burger King and McDonalds).

Hållbarhet och integrerad rapportering: i den Svenska gruvbranschen2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Society is becoming more aware of the impact the consumer society has on the environment, humans and our planet. This has resulted in higher demands for businesses to operate in a responsible manner with respect to sustainability. With increased consciousness new ways to report sustainability develops, which has led the International Integrated Reporting Council to launch a framework for integrated reporting in 2013. This is a whole new way of thinking where the operation of the business and sustainability must be integrated with each other to be able to show the connection between the economic, environmental and social aspects. In order to account for its integrated approach, an overall integrated report highlighting these three aspects is drawn up. This will be made visible by companies by integrating sustainability aspects in its annual report.

The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of how integrated the annual reports of the mining industry companies are and to gain a deeper understanding of why firms choose to make use of integrated reporting. To answer the question of why companies choose to use the reporting form, a theoretical approach based on legitimacy theory, stakeholder theory, resource dependence theory and isomorphism is applied in order to get a broader understanding of the phenomenon.

The result shows that by working with integrated reporting an opportunity creates to communicate their sustainability work in an easily and understandable manner to all stakeholders the company interacts with. The company is showing commitment to its stakeholders so that they are seen as legitimate, which in turn creates the ability for the company to obtain critical resources necessary for its operations. The two most critical resources for the mining industry is operating permit and competent employees. The result shows that even isomorphic forces have an impact regarding why the businesses in the study report in a similar manner.

Skyltfönstrets budskap och uppfattning: Hur uppfattar kunder klädbutikens val av exponering i skyltfönstret?2011Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

    Background

Today companies include CSR in their operations and establish sustainability reports which is a consequence of increased pressure from society and company stakeholders, including shareholders. Previous studies find that the information in sustainability reports varies, which complicates the ability of readers to evaluate different sustainability reports and compare it between companies. For example, to receive value from the CSR-activities, shareholders must in a correct way interpret and value the activities. Companies' work with CSR can create value for shareholders by increasing the trust of stakeholders which leads to protection of the company when negative events occur.

    Purpose

Our purpose is to contribute to understanding the use of sustainability reports when comparing between different companies and what information that is important for shareholders to evaluate in sustainability reports.

    Methods

We conducted our study in line with the qualitative method. The empirical data was gathered through six semi-structured interviews. Analyses of the empirical result in relation to theories and previous studies presented in our theoretical framework led to our conclusions.

    Results

This study shows that transparency, credibility and essential are important factors for shareholders to evaluate in sustainability reports. Shareholders should also evaluate risks, as well as the probability that these will occur and what it will have for consequences. Our study shows that sustainability reports are useful when comparing different companies because the evaluation is based on the comprehensive picture, which allows shareholders to ignore the fact that the companies report different types of information.

Title: Using the Balanced Scorecard in support departments in a public organisation from the employees point of view

Keywords: Organization, Leadership, Balanced Scorecard [BSC], Processes, Support Department

Background: The society requires that organizations which are financed with taxes should use their resources efficiently. It requires that organizations should be driven under constant improvement. One way might be to use the Balance Scorecard [BSC] which is an instrument to lead an organization toward its goals.

Problem: What is the experience of the staff of two support departments in a public organization of using of BSC in their departments? What advantages and disadvantages of using of BSC are experienced by the staff of two support departments in a public organization in their departments? How can leaders affect the staff’s experience so the job in these departments becomes more effective? Can we affect staffs motivation to use BSC with the help of the institutional theory?

Purpose: The purpose of this work is to study the question if the BSC is a well-functioning control instrument in some departments of one public organization. We will increase the knowledge of how the staff of two support departments experiences the BSC in their departments. Our study can be used as a pilot study for a larger study of the practical use and development of control instruments in support departments in public organizations.

Method: This study is descriptive because the purpose is to study the staff’s experience. The analysis has been done deductively. This is a case study with two cases. The method used in the study is qualitative. We take advantage of semi-structured interviews in this study.

Conclusion: Our result shows that the staff from these two departments of the public organization does not engage themselves in this activity so much. It can be explained by the fact that their main work tasks which takes most of the time are to support producing departments. That is why the controlling with the help of BSC in these departments is not prioritized from the personals point of view. The staff’s experience coincide with the institutional theory which points out the difference between that what should be achieved and what really has been accomplished. The leaders can affect the staff’s motivation by communicating the BSC so these departments can work more effectively.

Värdering av spelarkontrakt inom svensk fotboll: En kvalitativ studie om hur svenska fotbollsklubbar värderar sina spelarkontrakt2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Football players are the most valuable assets in a football club. Football is different compared to other sports and industries because of the global market that exists where player contracts can exchange owners. In order for a player contract to be exchanged it needs an economic value on the contract. Transfer of players contracts are an important part in football which forces the clubs to valuate the players to ensure that they will get the right amount of payment of a potential transfer.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to describe the problems when football clubs valuate their own player contracts and how their approach can be explained. Following question has been asked: How does Swedish football clubs valuate their own player contracts and how can their approach be explained?

Method: The study has been using a qualitative method based on six interviews. We conducted the interviews with respondents that work in the different clubs and one interview that works as a CFO for Swedish Football Association.

Conclusion: In the conclusion we found out that the football clubs don’t use any specific valuation model to valuate their player contracts. The reason is because the value of a player contract is affected by a variety of different factors and football players are humans that possess different characteristics and qualifications. We have noticed that the clubs use a kind of multiple valuation but it`s only used as a tool to make the valuation easier. Instead it is required that the clubs makes an individual estimation from the player’s characteristics and qualifications. The clubs consider which factors that are most important for the specific player contract. We have concluded that the football club’s valuation processes are divided into three different steps. The process will clarify how football clubs valuate their own player contracts.

Planering i små familjeföretag: En studie kring hur planeringar förändras i små familjeföretag när de upplever tillväxt2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Family firms the most common form of business in the world and the academic interest around them has grown significantly over the past decades. When a company is experiencing financial growth their information needs increases and they are encouraged to draw up plans to cover the information need. Previous studies on the subject have pointed out that the research on formal plans in family firms is incomplete in many areas. The research that has been done indicates that planning is not a priority in small family firms for various reasons and that the planning carried out is largely informal. Whether family firms implement more planning practices as they increase in size is haven’t been tested in qualitative research.

The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of how small family firms in Skaraborg change their use of formal plans when they are experiencing a period of financial growth and if the growth of the family firm is affected by it being planned or not. To answer this, we have selected 13 formal planning practices that we have studied the presence of in our case companies and if there was any change in the use of these practices over their most recent growth period. The study was conducted with a qualitative research method where data collection has been in the form of semi-structured interviews. This is to increase our ability to create a deeper understanding of our selected area of research.

The results of the study have shown that small growing family firms perform few changes in their planning practices. We have not been able to demonstrate in the context of this study that financial growth increased the use of formal planning practices in family firms in Skaraborg. Our conclusion of this study is that if small growing family firms are going to change their use of formal planning and benefit from it, it is not enough to rely on external help for this. Instead these companies should focus their resources on educating current management staff in the use of formal planning practices and the difficulties that arises along financial growth to see the connection between the two. Just because financial growth increases the need for information that doesn’t mean that any planning to cover the information need will be implemented. A leader in the enterprise must discover the need and choose to use a planning practice to cover it.

Collaborative Public Management: Coordinated Value Propositions among Public Service Organisations2019In: Public Management Review, ISSN 1471-9037, E-ISSN 1471-9045Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Drawing from collaborative public management, this article seeks to contribute topublic service logic by focusing on what precedes the public service user’s realizationof value: the value proposition. A new care model for elderly people with multiplechronic diseases shows that coordinators with an inter-organizational mission, ver-tical and horizontal supporting structures, trust established through relationships, and recognition of service systems’embeddedness in social systems are pivotal forthe ability of public service organizations to develop coordinated value propositions. The contribution to policy and practice is an increased understanding of a coherent, rather than fragmented, welfare system for users/citizens.

Post-New Public Management in Public Healthcare: Recycled, Hybridized, Paradigmatic?2019Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

New Public Management (NPM) is increasingly used pejoratively and claimed unfit for the complex challenges in contemporary societies, for example aging population structures and, as a result, increased number of cancer patients. Consequently, post-NPM gains increased attention. Drawing from a longitudinal case in Swedish cancer care, the present article seeks to pinpoint post-NPM in public healthcare practice. It is revealed that some post-NPM aspects are recycled by combining traditional public administration (pre-NPM) and NPM aspects: the former’s re-professionalisation is combined with the latter’s foci on performance measures, decentralisation, and accountability. Other post-NPM aspects are hybridizing typical NPM aspects with new (post-NPM) aspects: for instance, customer-focus is taken further to include the patient’s active participation in co-designing services, and standardization is reinterpreted to concern meeting-places rather than efficiency. Yet other aspects are replacing NPM shortcomings: for instance, trust is replacing control, and a systems approach is replacing the intra-organisational focus.

Hur ser rekryteringsprocessen ut i familjeägda företag?: En kvalitativ studie av tre familjeädga företag i Jönköpingsregionen2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Favouritism of family members when recruiting is something that in research is defined as "nepotism". Thus conferring undeserved rewards obtained and the unfair discrimination in employment may occur. It may also be that family members get benefits, which other employees may not take part of. The purpose of this study is to increase understanding of how recruitment takes place in family firms and if and how nepotism affects the process.

In this study, three family-owned companies located in Jönköping, have been investigated. Following a qualitative research, we conducted interviews with family members involved in respective family business. Seven interviews were conducted with issues related to our theoretical framework.

We have in our study described how the recruitment process usually takes place in the studied family businesses and that nepotism is something that is a common phenomenon and in many cases have come to influence the recruitment process, both negatively and positively. Informal- and formal recruitment is something that proved to be mixed in all three businesses, where informal recruitment, however, proves to be the form of recruitment process, which often led to having the right person at the right place and also generated a good work environment. The choice of recruitment process has primarily been due to cost, but also the assurance that the right person is in the right place has been a significant factor.

What would be interesting to find out in future research is if the use of informal recruitment generally contributes to a better working environment and more committed employees, since this study only took three family businesses in Jönköping into consideration. But also whether the longer learning period regarding lost skills could hurt the company in the long term.

Entreprenörens delaktighet i bokslutsprocessen i nystartade företag2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

A large number of new businesses are started every year and only in the first quarter of 2015, 18 618 businesses started up. Starting up a new business requires, by the entrepreneur that is starting it, an idea and a plan for how it should be implemented. Today entrepreneurs in start-ups are a central part of the economy, which makes them an interesting topic to study. For the entrepreneurs to succeed in their business, it is of importance that the accounting functions. Several previous studies discuss the fact that entrepreneurs do not have the knowledge about accounting that is required in start-ups. The reason why several entrepreneurs do not succeed in their business is in fact the lack of knowledge about accounting, as showed in previous studies.

The main purpose of this paper was to increase the understanding of the importance of external accounting in start-ups, which have been done by describing the entrepreneur´s participation in the year-end procedure in start-ups. A qualitative approach was used during the study to answer the purpose, where we interviewed ten entrepreneurs from nine different start-ups regarding their participation in the year-end procedure.

Empirical results conclude that all entrepreneurs are involved in the year-end procedure. The study also demonstrated that entrepreneurs in start-ups are taking help from external parties to put together the year-end procedure.

We have used the sense-making theory to gain an understanding of why and how the entrepreneurs participate in the year-end procedure, by which we could obtain several value creating reasons for participation. It is difficult to draw a general conclusion of what a value-creating action is as a result of participation in the various phases for all entrepreneurs. However it is possible to distinguish various reasons for the different entrepreneurs that can be seen as value creating.

Konsumenters vilja eller ovilja till att lämna ut personlig information vid köp online: En undersökning om hur viljan att lämna ut personlig information upplevs ur ett konsumentperspektiv vid köp online2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Challenges in Hospitals Digitalization – Physicians’ and Nurses’ Outlook2017Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Digitalization is sweeping every organization. Also in hospitals patients’ records go through a digitization process to become electronic healthcare record, (EHR).

Purpose – This study describe physicians and nurses perceptions towards digitization of their work practices. The overall questions is: What are the professionals’ perceptions on how to work with digitalized information systems?

Design/methodology/approach –The sample consisted of physicians (n=64) and nurses (n=261) working in a Swedish regional hospital. A standardized questionnaire was coupled with free-text options as well. The professionals’ perceptions of EHR were compared with the traditional paper-based records.

Findings – The professionals reacted with resistance and need more time and more well-developed systems to exercise their new skills. Competence to document in itself is not the problem. The problem is how to perform their new EHR work in daily practise. Communication problems between different systems become obvious. The study shows that performability is important when working with digitization in every day’s practises.

Practical implications – There are still shortcomings in the quality of the documentation in EHR. Redundant documentations have to be minimized. The communication between systems and information to patient have to be developed. It also important to have more and better work places for professionals’ possibility to perform their skills. Additionally, to increase their knowledge of digitization in healthcare the professionals need continuous training and time to discuss pros and cons with the digitization.

En hållbar balansakt över tiden2013In: Spår av Björn - Nio texter om Björn Brorström och hans forskargärning / [ed] Viveka Nilsson, Göteborg: KFi – Kommunforskning i Västsverige , 2013, , p. 28p. 15-16Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Followership for Organizational Resilience in Health care2018In: The Resilience Framework: Organizing for Sustained Viability / [ed] Stefan Tengblad, Margareta Oudhuis, Singapore: Springer, 2018, p. 163-179Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The resilient organization has the important capability of creating high reliability. In health care, professionals deal with major challenges in terms of new working methods. The chapter describes the introduction of a standardized working method in hospitals, utilizing Lean-oriented work processes. That is different from nurses’ and physicians’ traditional and flexible way of working. These differences in approaches are the subject of the study. The question is: How can followership create and maintain high reliability and resilience in health care? A comparative case study was performed using interviews and steering documents. To maintain and create high reliability, social resources such as followership are important. Followers’ ability to improve, cooperate, and learn turned out to be important characteristics. Organizational resilience depends on these professionals’ ability to manage change.

Förtroende för vårdens information2018In: Socialmedicinsk Tidskrift, ISSN 0037-833X, Vol. 95, no 3, p. 311-320Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

New technologies in health care shall provide more efficient information flows and contribute to treat patients more efficiently. The purpose describes and analyzes the professionals’ trust to the information in electronic healthcare records, compared to the former analogue. A survey of physicians’ (n = 65) and nurses’ (n = 262) (response rate of 84.7%) perceptions was performed about trust of the information regarding support, opportunities and challenges, and the professionals’ knowledge and ability to apply this information. The horizontal trust between professionals supports trust of the information. Digitized information, in itself, does not render the use of information more efficient. However, it is not digitalization that develops trust in the information without the trust between those working with the patients.

Hospital management from a high reliability organizational change perspective: A Swedish case on Lean and Six Sigma2017In: International Journal of Public Sector Management, ISSN 0951-3558, E-ISSN 1758-6666, Vol. 30, no 1, p. 67-84Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze nurses’ perceptions and evaluations of healthcare developmental work after the introduction of Lean and Six Sigma and, how nurses aspire to maintain a high reliability organization (HRO).

Design/methodology/approach – Nurses’ roles and the way they respond to new efficiency and quality working methods are crucial. Underlying themes were analyzed from in-depth, semi-structured interviews with (n 17) nurses at two Swedish hospitals.

Findings – The nurses perceived that Lean worked better than Six Sigma, because of its bottom-up approach, and its similarities with nurses’ well-known work qualities. Nurses coordinate patients care, collaborate in teams and take leadership roles. To maintain high reliability and to become quality developers, nurses need stable resources. However, professional’s logic collides with management’s logic. Expert knowledge (top-down approach) without nurses’ local knowledge (bottom-up approach) can lead to problems. Healthcare quality methods are standardized but must be used with flexibility. However, HROs ensue not only from method quality but also from work attitudes, commitment and continuous work-improvement.

Practical implications – Management can support personnel in developmental work with: continuous education, training, teamwork, knowledge sharing and cooperation. Authoritarian method structures that limit the healthcare professionals’ autonomy should be softened or abandoned.

Originality/value – The study uses theoretical concepts from HROs, which were developed for unexpected events, to explain the consequences of implementing Lean and Six Sigma in healthcare.

Maintaining Healthcare Organizations’ Reliability in Times of Change2014In: British Academy of Management 2014: Track: Organizational Transformation, Change and Development / [ed] Catherine McCauley-Smith, London, 2014, p. 1-18Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Healthcare organizations should be reliable and resilient when unexpected events occur that create pressure for change. This paper discusses the importance of reliability and resilience when a decision is made to standardize the professionals’ work methods.

The aim was to explain how healthcare organizations can maintain high reliability in the operations beyond an unexpected event.

Two qualitative case studies at two hospitals are used to compare the work methods. Semi-structured interviews and follow-up questions were conducted with managers, nurses, and physicians in departments of cardiology and urology. Annual reports and operation plans also provide data.

High reliability healthcare organization is sufficiently resilient in times of change if providing quality care, encourages flexibility, individual responsibility, promotes good communication, develops learning processes and gives legitimacy.

Professionals need participate in decision-making processes and require time and opportunity to develop knowledge and skills.

[ed] Stefan Tengblad & Margareta Oudhuis, Lund: Studentlitteratur AB, 2014, 1, p. 181-198Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Nurses’ perceptions of healthcare development work in a high reliability organisation: A study of Lean and Six Sigma in hospital management2015In: BAM2015. The Value of Pluralism in Advancing Management research, Education and Practice, London, 2015, Vol. 1, p. 1-17Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Most nurses are deeply involved in healthcare development work. Nurses are required to participate as they coordinate processes with other health professionals in the entire hospital care chain.

To investigate how nurses perceive and evaluate healthcare development work when Lean and Six Sigma are introduced in clinical practises, in-depth, semi-structured interviews with seventeen nurses at two hospitals were used.

The nurses mean that quality healthcare is more dependent on hospital personnel than on the use of Lean and Six Sigma. Lean can be used in some healthcare areas but not in all. Six Sigma can be used only if some precautions are taken and personnel participate in the decision-making. Furthermore nurses do stress the importance of education and training, teamwork, and cooperation as ways to improve healthcare.

Organizing for Development Work in Healthcare Organizations: A study of Quality Methods for Reliable Care2015In: 23rd Nordic Academy of Management Conference: 12-14 August 2015, 2015, p. 138-138Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Healthcare professionals are involved in development work that is always present in healthcare organisations. They are required to participate when quality methods such as Lean and Six Sigma are introduced in hospitals’ clinical practises.

The purpose of this paper is to explore how development work in terms of providing reliable care are perceived by nurses and physicians when quality methods are implemented in clinical practises.

The data consist from in-depth, semi-structured interviews with seventeen nurses and ten physicians at two hospitals in western Sweden. A qualitative research method was used. The interviews were analysed in the search for underlying themes that reflect their perception and evaluation of the quality methods and their possibility to increase the reliability in healthcare.

The confidence between nurses and physicians was essential for creating and maintaining supportive relationships and reliable systems. Reliable care seemed to be more of the result of the dedication and professionalism than the result of the applied quality methods. Reliability in healthcare seemed to flow from work attitudes, commitment and continuous development work as much as from quality methods. In general, the professionals more emphasized the importance of teamwork and cooperation as ways to develop healthcare.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This article reports on the involvement of nurses and physicians in improvement work, with a special focus on the drivers. The purpose was to describe how the nurse and physician groups understand involvement drivers for improvement work and to explain the differences in how they understand involvement. The study was conducted at 2 Swedish hospitals, and a total of 20 nurses and 10 physicians were interviewed. The theoretical framework, developed by an interpretative approach, identifies and describes a number of involvement drivers. On clustering the drivers into larger involvement factors, the study shows clear differences and profiles in terms of the 2 groups' perception and understanding of the involvement—drivers. Each group's profile was then analyzed on the basis of concept of professional culture.

    Abstract [en]

Purpose – Clinical governance and leadership concepts can lead to more or less successfulimplementations of new clinical practice. The purpose of this paper is to examine how Fiery Spirits, asinstitutional entrepreneurs can, working in a team, implement sustained change in hospital clinicalpractice.Design/methodology/approach – This paper describes two case studies, conducted at two Swedishhospitals over a period of two years, in which changes in clinical practice were implemented. In bothcases, key-actors, termed Fiery Spirits, played critical roles in these changes. The authors use aqualitative approach and take an intra-organizational perspective with semi-structured in-depthinterviews and document analysis.Findings – The new clinical practices were successfully implemented with a considerable influenceof the Fiery Spirits who played a pivotal role in the change efforts. The Fiery Spirits persuasively, based on their structural and normative legitimacy and the adoption of learning processes, advocated, and supported change.Practical implications – Fiery Spirits, given flexibility and opportunity, can be powerful forcesfor change outside the trajectory of management-inspired and management-directed change.Team members, when inspired and encouraged by Fiery Spirits, are less resistant to change and morewilling to test new clinical practices.Originality/value – The paper complements literature on how the Fiery Spirit concept aligns withconcepts of clinical governance and leadership and how change can be achieved. Additionally, thefindings show the effects of legitimacy and learning processes on change in clinical practice.

Hur anpassas stimuli i butiksatmosfären i en stor och i en liten butik inom samma kedja?2012Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Within a company it is important to keep the communication consistent to the customers. The whole of the store chain includes the store atmosphere, which affect the customer’s experi-ence of the stores. When the store chains adapt their stores due to the size and shape, it affects the consistency of the communication. This results in an inconsistent image perceived by the customers which does not match the profile and identity of the company. The report compares a store chain's profile and identity against the image perceived by the customers. It demon-strates how the stimulus of the store atmosphere has an impact on the image, in terms of store decor, customer service and product range. Knowledge from this report can be used by store chains to integrate the image with their profile and identity.

    Abstract [en]

Background: Immigration to Sweden has increased in recent years requiring organizations to utilize the newly arrived population. The Swedish Parliament wishes to promote diversity in Swedish workplaces and has laid down a law stating that organizations must actively work on diversity. Due to the absence of a directive, the recruitment procedure has been characterized by managers tending to recruit individuals similar to themselves, which has resulted in homogeneous group configurations. This phenomenon is called homosocial reproduction. The importance of a diversity policy is therefore essential for diversity to be continuous throughout the organization.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to describe and analyze the manager's perception of how recruitment is based on the organization's diversity policy.

Method: Since the purpose of the study is to describe and analyze individual experiences, a qualitative survey method has been used. Seven individual semi- structured interviews have been conducted in relation to our theoretical reference framework.

Conclusion: The results of the study emphasize the manager's lack of commitment to reading the diversity policy. Furthermore, the present study has shown that managers perceive that the diversity policy cannot be applied at local offices, resulting in HR failing to disseminate the information. The study has also shown that the diversity policy did not affect the manager's recruitment process. The present study has shown that managers recruit according to personal preferences and have diversified group compositions in the form of varying gender, age, work experience and academic background. The present study has shown that ethnicity is not involved in the manager's definition of diversity, which may indicate ethnic subordination.

Knowledge management in environmental sustainability practices of third-party logistics service providers2015In: Vine: The Journal of Information and Knowledge Management Systems, ISSN 0305-5728, E-ISSN 1474-1032, Vol. 45, no 4, p. 509-529Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide a structured literature review on knowledge management (KM) and KM strategy in environmental sustainability practices of logistics service providers. The paper highlights the nature and scope of existing research and identifies areas for future research. Design/methodology/approach – The study consists of a systematic review of existing research regarding KM in sustainable logistics. In all, 38 refereed research papers formed the basis of analysis. This methodology allows for the minimization of researcher bias and the maximization of reliability and replicability. Findings – The literature review made possible the identification of three basic elements through which building-up appropriate KM approaches and KM strategies in the area of environmental sustainability by third-party logistics service companies will be enhanced: customer relationship management, quality of human resources and the adoption of information and communication technology tools and systems. Research limitations/implications – This study may not have enabled a complete coverage of all articles in the field of KM in the context of environmental sustainability practices of logistics service companies. Yet, it seems reasonable to assume that the review process covered a large share of studies available. The main research implications deriving from the study concern research methods, analysis of factors hampering/supporting the implementation of KM in practices related to environmental sustainability, development of measures to demonstrate the impact of KM on sustainability practices and role of different stakeholders in the implementation of KM in environmental sustainability practices. Originality/value – To the best of the authors ' knowledge, no systematic literature review on this topic has previously been published in academic journals.

The family influences of EO development in immigrant family businesses2018In: Sustainable entrepreneurship: A win-win strategy for the future, Toledo, 2018Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper explores how family influences the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) process in immigrant family business. To fulfill the purpose, we employ inductive multiple case studies with in-depth interviews.  We rely on seven cases of immigrant entrepreneurs of Chinese, Icelandic, Turkish, Cameroonian, Mexican and Lebanese who established firms in Sweden. Our results suggest that EO development trajectories vary in regard to first and second immigrant entrepreneurs, low and high-tech sectors and host and home countries. Thus, family dynamics facilitates the development of entrepreneurial orientation over time through transforming, translating and transferring across generations and contexts. Our study indicates that, through family dynamics, EO is developed as a (1) transferring process of the founders’ proactiveness between the family in the home and host country; (2) translating process of risk-taking between the family companies in the home country to immigrant family company in the host country and (3) transforming process of innovativeness between the home and the host country.

Behavioural Finance: The psychological impact and overconfidence in financial markets2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate overconfidence and over-optimism in the market. This leads the reader to the question, are the analysts “right” concerning their forecasts? The reader will also get to understand various and sometimes forgotten factors that affect we human beings in our decision making when it comes to investing and analysing which is also known as the behavioural finance theory.

    Conclusion

According to the results from my tests it seems that analysts of the S&P500 are exaggerated by the problem of overconfidence and the over-optimistic biases. The analysis part of this study is confirming the discussed theory of anchoring and herding. Analysts tend to “follow the stream”, by evaluate the standard deviations between forecasts and the realized outcome, as well as the indexed analysts’ consensus estimations for twenty-four months of EPS.

    Abstract [sv]

Kalkylavvikelser: Aktiv påverkan i det dagliga arbetet i tillverkande företag2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Today´s society is characterized by constant changes in the business environment. Internationalization, globalization and development in technology are factors that lead to increased global competition between companies, why companies must improve their processes to remain competitive and profitable. The constantly changing society requires a well-implemented management control to keep up with the development, Manufacturing companies represents a big part of the Swedish industry. The companies must therefore adapt to the pace of globalization. Researchers have identified a gap in knowledge between management control in theory and practice. Research and development of methods for management control take place without ensuring how it is perceived in practice.

The purpose of this study is to define the reasons that explain why calculated deviations occur in the automobile industry in Sweden and how these deviations can be affected and reduced by active impact in the daily work. Our hope is to increase the knowledge about the deviations; how they can be affected, reduced and give a better precision in the calculations, with internal benchmarking and Kaizen as tools. The study was accomplished by interviews, meetings and observations of two departments in a large manufacturing company in order to create a deeper understanding. The study carried out with a qualitative approach.

The results we have found show that there is a great ability to affect the deviations. The opportunity for active impact differs depending on the respondent´s position in the company. The study shows that most respondents consider the lack of time as the main reason why they don´t use instruments for active impact, such as Kaizen and internal benchmarking. Furthermore we have found that employees are motivated by more than just monetary compensations, such as verbal encouragement and being noticed. The study concludes that different instruments for increasing efficiency in theory often is presented as unproblematic and easy to implement, but in reality and practice it is more complicated.

Medieval, budgetering och schemaläggning för butikens marknadsföring2007Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Marknadsföring via sociala medier: Social Media Marketing2012Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The thesis work focuses on marketing and its point of departure centers on mapping the utilization of social media as a form of marketing. The choice of this thesis subject has been deemed by the authors as one of particular interest due to the current popularity of social media in the Internet connected society and their use as marketing tools. Specifically, this thesis sets out to explore how companies exploit social media tools in marketing and how their use affects retail operations and customer relations in an effective and creative way.The report concentrates on qualitative data collection, the interview answers of four respondents, of which, two are considered experts within the field of social media. The choice of suitable respondents was strategic with the goal of covering as large a portion of the social media field as possible; one social media educator that works with companies and one who assists companies with social media applications. The remaining two respondents work in marketing and communications and employ, as part of their job, social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter. The choice of the company study object was based on the sample company’s development of a service centered on social media. Only interviewing individuals working with social media and not consumers, allowed for defining a clear scope for the study and personal interest in the business operators’ viewpoints drove that choice. The theoretical framework comprises the central concepts relationship marketing, traditional marketing, the 4 ps of marketing: product, price, promotion (i.e communication and marketing), and place (distribuation), and lastly 7 steps in creating an effective social media communication platform e.g developing a current communication platform and maintaining active participation which enables one to follow societal developments. Marketers devote more time and resources than ever towards developing relationships with customers emphasizing communication, trust, mutual understanding, and effectiveness. This postulate is central to the importance and focus of this study and the interview responses collected are used to explore the connection between this statement and the importance of social media and discussed in the thesis analysis. One of the primary conclusions of this thesis report is that the companies and retailers that have devoted money and resources towards integrating social media tools into their marketing strategies have benefited, experiencing increased sales turnovers and flourishing retail operations, as well as receiving positive feedback from consumers. These businesses become more accessible and have the opportunity to reach out to a larger number of potential customers; spreading their messages and sharing their history. Social media and the virtual realm, in totality, are becoming increasingly important, company's survival and development opportunities will increase if they use social media in their marketing.

Effektiv internkontroll – En studie över onoterade företags interna kontroll avseende information och kommunikation2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background and problems discussed: To succeed in the corporate world, it is important to be prepared for all the risks that can occur. These risks may include anything from financial crises to conscious errors from senior executives or employees. Enron was a scandal that made a significant impact on the world, which prompted the United States to introduce a new legislation. The intention was to reduce the risk of inadequate reporting. Like the U.S., Sweden also chose to introduce the so-called "Code", which has a similar purpose as the new U.S. legislation. The interests of internal control have increased in recent years. It is important that companies apply a well-functioning control to deal with any risks that may affect the companies’ abilities and goals. The companies should comply with laws, and set plans to help them to reach their goals. One way can be to implement the COSO model, a framework with international diversification. Communication is the key for effective internal control; the entire operation must be aware of guidelines, and work in the same direction to reach the companies’ goals.

Purpose: The purposes are to create a greater understanding of the unlisted company’s internal controls and the implementation of information in the operations. Further, to illustrate what the importance of good information and communication means for the companies. Finally, to give an insight in how companies with a good internal controls best can reach the goals and minimize future frauds.

Method: The delimitation of the thesis is non-listed companies within Västra Götaland, Sweden. The qualitative method has been used. Our interest was to have the opportunity for personals meetings. The respondents could reflect; how companies actively work with internal control, and how they have chosen to implement information to their employees. Personal meetings gave the opportunities for more impressions to observe how it looked in the operations. Further, scientific articles and textbooks have been used to the theoretical chapter.

Conclusion: All companies applying internal control. As previous studies shows, it is more or less essential to have some kind of control over the operations. In the production of internal control, COSO model can be useful. The conclusion also shows the importance of information and communication in the business operations.

Produktplacering i film: En studie om produktplaceringens påverkan av högskolestudenters köpbeslutsprocess2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Product Placement has become an increasingly important tool for the marketer trying to reach out to all advertising weary viewers. To convince the viewer to buy the product and to succeed in product placement it’s not enough for the viewer to pay attention, it also requires factors such as interest, acceptance and desire. To lead product placement into success and to influence the viewers in their buying decision process it is also a benefit if the viewer is aware or has some kind of knowledge about the brand. Interesting fact is that this study has one exception. With an experiment combined with surveys we have in this study dealt specifically with how college students getting influenced by product placement in their buying decision process and how this influence differs between men and women. The analysis with its discussions leads us to a conclusion which indicates how product placement really affects students. In addition this study shows that both genders will increase their purchases of selected brands where women in a higher rate than men have got influenced by product placement.
