    Abstract [en]

     In this chapter, a general theoretical framework of the book is presented. The framework builds on various sources of literature and in particular on an organic view on economic and organizational development. Using the classical concepts of variation, selection and retention, organizational resilience is seen as the capacity of a company to over time become a selected variation in the marketplace.

    Furthermore‚  the framework builds on findings from complexity theory that highlights the centrality of unforeseen events and unanticipated consequences. Such events and consequences can be both positive and negative (serendipities as well as severe challenges). The chapter ends in a new model that emphasizes the importance for a resilient organization to find an adequate balance between reliability,efficiency and change capacity.

    Abstract [en]

    One way of gaining knowledge about organizational resilience is to studying business leaders who have contributed to create companies and business models with long endurance. In this chapter three successful Swedish business leaders are described and analyzed in accordance with the theoretical framework of the book. Some important results emerge from the analysis. First, an emphasis on creating decentralized organizations based on an active followership and trust is revealed. Second, the business leaders in question have shown the courage and capability to develop strategies even if they did not correspond to at the moment popular beliefs in society, and third the business leaders have shown the ability to find creative solution to situations they did not foresee, which included abandoning a previous strategy (i.e. fl exible adaption).

    Abstract [en]

    Good to Great by Jim Collins and colleagues (2001) is one of the most influential management books in the last decades. In this chapter, a critical analysis of the book is made using the framework developed in the book. This is made through an analysis of the fate of Circuit City, one of the heralded companies in Good to Great. The critique contains displaying methodological flaws and the one-sidedness in  Good to Great where simple and timeless business models fanatically applied is seen as a general recipe for success. On the contrary, the fate of Circuit City demonstrates the need of developing a strong financial base, efficient operations, good stakeholder relations as well as the ability to alter existing business models and to develop new models.

    Abstract [sv]

    I artikeln redogörs för de viktigaste faktorerna som påverkar brukarnöjdhet inom svensk äldreomsorg på basis av statistiska analyser av primärdata i Socialstyrelsens och SKL:s årliga undersökning Öppna jämförelser samt fältstudier. Resultaten visar på den stora betydelsen av goda relationer mellan medarbetare och brukare präglade av respekt, trygghet och inflytande.  I artikeln redogörs också för de fem viktigaste komponenterna i det som kallas brukarorientering nämligen uppgiftsfokus, individfokus, känsla, samarbete och tidsanvändning. Syftet med denna artikel är att uppmärksamma beslutsfattare och äldreomsorgsadministratörer på betydelsen av att sträva efter en hög relationskvalitet och att undvika ett överdrivet fokus på att nå goda rankningresultat, särskilt som dessa rankningar har visats överdriva skillnader i kommuners äldreomsorgskvalitet.

    Abstract [en]

    The globalization movement in recent decades has meant rapid growth in trade, financial transactions, and cross-country ownership of economic assets. In this article, we examine how the globalization of national business systems has influenced the framing of corporate social responsibility (CSR). This is done using text analysis of CEO letters appearing in the annual reports of 15 major corporations in Sweden during a period of transformational change. The results show that the discourse about CSR in the annual reports has changed from a national and communitarian view of social responsibility (cf. a negotiated view of CSR) toward an international and individualistic view of social responsibility (cf. a self-regulating view of CSR). The article contributes theoretically (1) by adding a national-global dimension to previous conceptualizations of CSR and (2) by showing that the rise of CSR discourse and activities in the last 10 years does not have to imply an increased commitment and interest in corporate responsibility per se, only that there are increased societal expectations that corporations should develop the capability to act more independently as moral agents.

    Abstract [en]

    A central claim in the chapter is that organizational resilience is not only a capability but also a philosophy of how organizations can manage surprises and face adverse, complex and uncertain environments in responsible and proactive ways, often even before crises occur. The chapter presents a holistic framework that analyses resilience from different perspectives: 1) as traits, 2) as processes, 3) as resources 4) as capabilities and 5) as prime sources. Furthermore, the main results from the book are summarized in seven main conclusions: 1) the changeable nature of the concept, 2) the multifaceted nature of the concept, 3) the importance of stakeholder interactions, 4) the relation between economies of scale, standardization and flexibility, 5) the importance of high reliability and 6) of local conditions and 7) that resilience is created by combining reliability, efficiency and change capacity.

    Organizational resilience deals with companies’  and organizations’ ability to survive, or more positively stated, to maintain their vitality in a changing world that constantly requires adaptation. This chapter introduces and describes the concept of organizational resilience and presents an overview of the book.

    A resilient company or organization is in the chapter defi ned as the capacity to use its technical, economic and social resources in order to develop long-term skills and competencies, in an efficient, reliable and flexible manner, and in a way it could manage challenges and exploit opportunities. This definition is developed both by acknowledging previous defi nitions and also by using the theoretical framework of the book consisting of evolutionary theory, complexity theory and practice theory of management.

    Abstract [en]

    The Resilience Framework: Organizing for Sustained Viability is a book about organizational prosperity and survivability. Its theoretical framework poses achallenge to many schools of management thought in that it recognizes the complexity and unpredictability of managers’ and leaders’ work. A key theme is that organizations and leaders must be prepared and willing to deal with the inevitable occurrence of unexpected events by using their financial, technical, and social resources in ways that empower employees in lateral as well as horizontal decision-making processes. The book’s chapters are based on empirical research conducted at many real companies and in many important business areas. The empirical chapters, for example, present case studies of such events as the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster, the rise and fall of Circuit City, the turn-around of afashion company, and many others.

    The book presents two new theoretical managerial models: (1) an organizational resilience resource model based on a combination of financial, technical, and social resources; and (2) an organizational capability model that incorporates the three key concepts of reliability, efficiency, and change capacity. Within the framework of organizational resilience, these models can be used to analyse what makes some organizations viable and others not, to integrate important spheres of knowledge into managerial operations, and to understand the role of boards and top managers who work in complex and uncertain environments. While the book offers no easy recipes for achieving organizational resilience, it does offer a holistic explanation of the challenges modern organizations must master.

    Samhällets digitalisering innebär stora möjligheter till spridning och återbruk av informationsamtidigt som digitala klyftor skapas. Bland de medborgare som inte till fullo anammat den nyatekniken återfinns en stor grupp äldre, något som påverkar dessa individers möjligheter till en höglivskvalité i form av delaktighet, oberoende och god rörlighet. En aspekt i detta sammanhang äräldres möjligheter att åka kollektivt och på egen hand planera och genomföra resor, något somförutsätter en god tillgång till och förståelse av kollektivtrafikinformation. Föreliggandeexamensarbete avser här att belysa kognitiva effekter av det skifte i interaktionsmiljön som sker närkollektivtrafikens tids- och linjeinformation digitaliseras. Studien baserar sig på en situerad ansats tillmänniskans kognition, ett teoretiskt perspektiv som innebär att tänkandet baserar sig påmultimodala konceptuella erfarenheter. De fynd som studien resulterar i pekar på att digitaliseradetjänster kan erbjuda viss problemlösande avlastning, men att dessa samtidigt belastar det episodiskaminnet och har emotionell påverkan.

    Abstract [sv]

    Från ett intresse för realism och krigets estetik kommer detta examensarbete. Det består av ett 3D-grafikst verk i form av en 3D-modell av vapnet Mp40 och ett pedagogiskt inriktat verk i form av en handbok. På grund av rapportens tekniska natur du som läsare ha en del kunskap på området men för att hjälpa situationen finns en begreppsförklaring att tillgå i kapitel 3.6 Begreppsförklaring.

    Med aktuella metoder och programvaran Maya 2009 64-bit (Autodesk, 2008) skapades den högupplösta modellen utifrån två typer av referenser, profilbilden och förståelsebilden. Med hjälp av en omfattande referensdatabas kunde modellens realism och detaljrikedom bevaras. Genom olika processer skapades sedan den lågupplösta modellen för slutgiltig generering av normal map[1] och textur. Processen underlättades med hjälp av ett egenprogrammerat Maya-scrip för att utföra funktioner som inte redan fanns i Programvaran.

    I den handbok som skapades i och med detta examensarbete går det att läsa om hur ytterligare detaljer kan adderas till en normal map i efterhand. Detta för detaljer som är otympliga att skapa i 3D-modellen. Denna handbok finns tillgänglig i bilaga 9.2 Handbok eller på följande adress[2] Boken Att skriva bättre i jobbet (Fritzes Förlag, 1995) har legat till grund för handbokens utformning pedagogiska bakgrund.

    I diskussionen knyts sedan det 3D-grafiska arbetet med modeller från tre spel. En återkoppling mellan denna modell och spelens modeller sker på så vis att de jämförs och fördelar vägs mot nackdelar. I slutsatsen vägs arbetets bra sidor mot arbetets dåliga sidor och slutsatsen är att arbetet lyckats på en grundläggande nivå men att saker och ting är mer komplicerade än så.

    This paper presents a large-scale simulator study on driver adherence to recommendationsgiven by driver support systems, specifically eco-driving support and navigation support.123 participants took part in this study, and drove a vehicle simulator through a pre-defined environment for a duration of approximately 10 min. Depending on the experi-mental condition, participants were either given no eco-driving recommendations, or asystem whose provided support was either basic (recommendations were given in theform of an icon displayed in a manner that simulates a heads-up display) or informative(the system additionally displayed a line of text justifying its recommendations). A naviga-tion system that likewise provided either basic or informative support, depending on thecondition, was also provided.

    Effects are measured in terms of estimated simulated fuel savings as well as engine brak-ing/coasting behaviour and gear change efficiency. Results indicate improvements in allvariables. In particular, participants who had the support of an eco-driving system spenta significantly higher proportion of the time coasting. Participants also changed gears atlower engine RPM when using an eco-driving support system, and significantly more sowhen the system provided justifications. Overall, the results support the notion that pro-viding reasons why a support system puts forward a certain recommendation improvesadherence to it over mere presentation of the recommendation.

    Finally, results indicate that participants’ driving style was less eco-friendly if the navi-gation system provided justifications but the eco-system did not. This may be due to par-ticipants considering the two systems as one whole rather than separate entities withindividual merits. This has implications for how to design and evaluate a given driver sup-port system since its effectiveness may depend on the performance of other systems in thevehicle.

    I detta arbete undersöks skillnaden mellan skapandet av tooniga kontra realistiska texturer för polygonmodeller till datorspel. För att alls kunna undersöka detta har jag först fått ta reda på vad som faktiskt gör en grafisk stil toonig. Detta, har jag kommit fram till, är om det som avbildats dels blivit förenklat och även stiliserat (det vill säga ikoniskt abstraherat och även expressionistiskt abstraherat). Det som definierat en realistisk stil har jag låtit vara något som påminner om sådant som kan ses i foton. Jag har sedan åt fyra olika digitala 3D-modeller skapat texturer i två olika grafiska stilar: toonig och realistisk. Därefter har jag jämfört skillnaderna mellan skapandeprocesserna av dessa. De tooniga har skapats med hjälp av det jag kommit fram till om toonighet, och framförallt med hjälp från grafikerna på det spelföretag som jag jobbat på under en stor del av exjobbstiden. De realistiska har skapats med hjälp av litteratur om spelgrafikskapande. Det jag kommit fram till av denna undersökning har varit att realistiska texturer innehåller en större mängd mindre, diffusa detaljer i och med deras så kallade bastexturer, vilket förenklar arbetet med andra detaljer, såsom skuggor och liknande. Tooniga texturer har istället ett mindre antal mer tydliga detaljer, vilka kräver mer arbete då dessa inte blandas upp med någon bastextur, och sonika blir mer synliga.

    Användningen av datorer i arbetet har blivit en allt vanligare företeelse på arbetsplatsen, och för anställda på till exempel callcenter är datorer ett oumbärligt inslag i arbetssituationen. Med tekniken följer dock inte enbart fördelar; användningen av datorstöd kan även leda till kognitiva arbetsmiljöproblem och stress och ha en märkbart negativ inverkan på den psykosociala arbetsmiljön. Genom teoretisk genomgång och kvalitativa intervjuer med arbetsmiljökunniga konstateras dock att det saknas bra utvärderingsverktyg för att uppmärksamma denna typ avproblem. En arbetsplatsstudie på ett callcenter används för att visa på hur användningen av datorstöd kan inverka negativt på den psykosociala arbetsmiljön, och dess resultat ligger till grund för ett helt nytt utvärderingsverktyg. Detta syftar till att hjälpa organisationer och företagshälsovård att uppmärksamma kognitiva och psykosociala arbetsmiljöproblem relaterade till användningen av datorstöd, med hjälp av termer som kognitiva krav, kontroll och socialt stöd. Förhoppningen är att verktyget ska bidra till att öka medvetenheten om kognitiva arbetsmiljöproblem och teknikstress, och att i längden medverka till att förbättra datoranvändarens psykosociala arbetsmiljö.

This tends to have a negative effect on their future adult life, both economically as well as socially. In Sweden their is a well established, national, municipally arranged, adult education which gives a second chance to study for some of these young adults. The purpose of this collection of case studies (Flyvbjer, 2006) is to analyse and shed some light on the social and educational factors that might benefit these adult students to achieve their goals and to empower themselves (Lightfoot, 1985). It is by using Deweys holistic approach to human language and experience and combining external and internal life, that the interviews was collected from three students who attend some additional, educational support. The analysis of the material was executed in five steps and following the method of content analysis (Kvale, 1997). In my results chapter I present excerpts and analysis grouped under five thematic headlines;1. School as the setting for social identity making. 2. Socio-economical factors and flexibility3. School as a positive community. 4. Relations building on feedback and mutual respect.5. Focusing on education and empowerment.

    The Swedish national survey "School children's health habits" have since 1985 asked children "What do you think about school these days?". School satisfaction decreases with age and unlike many other questions there are different views from boys 'and girls on this matter. Most obvious in the youngest age group, where girls more often say they feel very well at school (Swedish children's health habits, FHI 2005). In this study eight 12-year-old Swedish school girls from a small town in the west of Sweden describe their feelings about school. My method is to determine their SOC-value through a survey (Margalit & Efrati, 1996) based on Antonovsky's questionnaire for measuring Sense of Coherence (Antonovsky, 1987) and then interview them individually on the subjects of well-being, flow, and praise in school. They may talk freely about these topics and describe their feelings about different aspects of school. By assembling the different parts in the result an illustration of girls' well-being in the school setting is formed.

    This article discusses recent developments in public sector labour relations in Sweden from a historical, gender and power relations perspective. The main question is whether these trends challenge the established Swedish industrial relations system. Our point of departure - yet chronologically also the point of arrival - is the Swedish Municipal Workers' Union, Kommunal's, exit from the coordinated wage setting model within the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (Landsorganisationen, LO) in 2015/2016. The immediate reason was that Kommunal, representing one-third of the LO members, including many low-paid women, turned down the LO's proposal on a general wage increase for low-wage groups. Instead, Kommunal urged to upgrade wages for a specific member group, the auxiliary nurses. This broke an almost uninterrupted 20-year-long period of labour market cooperation and coordination that was introduced in 1997 through the so-called Industry Agreement (Industriavtalet). This agreement was launched in the wake of the deep financial crisis in the early 1990s, and the neoliberal move towards a complete decentralization of pay negotiations. How should this move by Kommunal be interpreted? Why, and when, has the centralized system become a straitjacket for Kommunal, when for decades it seemingly was a precondition for both private and public union strength?

    So-called bogus – or false – self-employment has been increasingly highlighted as a problem within the European Union (EU), especially since the first eastern expansion in 2004. Although the concept is not fully clear in legal terms, a common denominator of most definitions is that bogus self-employment can be seen as ‘disguised employment’, occurring when someone who has an employee status in practice is not classified as an employee, in order to hide the actual legal status and to avoid costs such as taxes and social security contributions. In the light of different welfare systems, industrial relations and EU legislation, this article discusses this issue, drawing empirically on findings from a project about precarious employment in twelve EU countries. Although there are some fairly strict definitions of the ‘employee concept’ within the EU, the difficulties of identifying the employer leave the bogus self-employed in a legal limbo. No European Social Model has curtailed this problem, despite an expressed desire to address all aspects of precarious work. However, the inclusion of all ‘self-employed’ workers within social insurance systems and workers with an employee status in practice seems possible also under existing EU regulations. It is rather a matter of goodwill and the resources to scrutinize the terms and conditions of employment.
