Reliability and validity of the Acceptance Symptom Assessment Scale in assessing labour pain2012In: Midwifery, ISSN 0266-6138, E-ISSN 1532-3099, Vol. 28, no 5, p. e684-e688Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objective: to investigate the reliability and validity of the Acceptance Symptom Assessment Scale (ASAS) in assessing labour pain.

Design: a test-retest approach was used to assess reliability and validity.

Setting: labour ward with approximately 2,400 deliveries annually in western part of Sweden.

Participants: forty-seven pregnant women in the latent or active phase of labour.

Methods: a total of five pain assessments with both the ASAS and the VAS were conducted in three sessions.

Main outcome measures: correlation between ASAS and VAS.

Findings: both scales demonstrated high and significant test–retest correlations (r=0.83–0.92; p<0.001). High and significant alternative-form reliability correlations (r=0.76–0.93, p<0.001) were found between ASAS and VAS ratings at all five assessments. Construct validity was established when both the ASAS and the VAS identified a pain reduction(p<0.001) 2 hrs after birth, compared to the previous assessment. Over two-thirds of the women preferred the ASAS to the VAS ,mainly(n=30) because the ASAS provided more choices relating to the pain experience, making it possible to label pain acceptable/unacceptable.

Conclusions: the ASAS is interchangeable with the VAS for assessing labour pain. Over two-thirds of the women preferred it to the VAS.

Surface interactions in the complex between cytochrome f and the E43Q/D44N and E59K/E60Q plastocyanin double mutants as determined by (1)H-NMR chemical shift analysis2001In: Protein Science, ISSN 0961-8368, E-ISSN 1469-896X, Vol. 10, no 12, p. 2623-2626Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

A combination of site-directed mutagenesis and NMR chemical shift perturbation analysis of backbone and side-chain protons has been used to characterize the transient complex of the photosynthetic redox proteins plastocyanin and cytochrome f. To elucidate the importance of charged residues on complex formation, the complex of cytochrome f and E43Q/D44N or E59K/E60Q spinach plastocyanin double mutants was studied by full analysis of the (1)H chemical shifts by use of two-dimensional homonuclear NMR spectra. Both mutants show a significant overall decrease in chemical shift perturbations compared with wild-type plastocyanin, in agreement with a large decrease in binding affinity. Qualitatively, the E43Q/D44N mutant showed a similar interaction surface as wild-type plastocyanin. The interaction surface in the E59K/E60Q mutant was distinctly different from wild type. It is concluded that all four charged residues contribute to the affinity and that residues E59 and E60 have an additional role in fine tuning the orientation of the proteins in the complex.

Icke-farmakologiska Smärtlindrande Omvårdnadsåtgärder Inom Prehospital Akutsjukvård: En Kvalitativ Beskrivning av olika tillvägagångssätt2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

One of the most common complaints of patient’s in need of prehospital emergency care is pain of some sort. Since November 1 2005 a big portion of the ambulance personnel is no longer allowed to administer drugs of any kind. Hence it is reasonable to assume that pain treatment nowadays is carried out with both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Therefore the authors saw an interest in investigating how the ambulance personnel look at the concept of, and treatment of pain.

The aim of this study was to, with focus on non-pharmacological measures, describe how Swedish ambulance personnel treat the patient in pain.

The study was conducted with 5 interviews with ambulance personnel. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed. The analysis revealed four main themes with a number of sub themes. The theme opinions of pain disclose the informant’s view of pain as an individual phenomenon and what changes the patients perception of pain. Refuting and behavior in tending patients describes the informant’s opinions that a calm refuting and a good relationship with the patient could divert the patient’s thoughts about the pain. Assessment and treatment describes the need for individual adaptation when treating patients in pain. Combination therapy is successful revealed the informants thoughts that a combination of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological gives the best result.

Användbarhetsexpertens roll som representant och medlare i systemutvecklingsprocesser2003Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

A workplace that is not considered sufficiently motivating for an individual can lead to an employee voluntary choosing to leave a company, resulting in high unpredictable employee turnover costs and inconvenience for the operation. Therefore, Employee retention is considered to be of great importance. Motivation in work may also be associated with the experience of satisfaction that creates positive working attitudes, this term can be seen to be integrated with the work of retaining employees. However, in order to maintain motivation in work, it is important that managers understands how generation differences can affect the needs of individuals in the workplace. Because young employees, so-called generation Y, are individuals who are more likely to leave a company than previous generations this study has a specific focus on the healthcare industry, which has shown a high number of young employees. The aim of this study was to create an understanding of how managers can work to motivate their employees, belonging to generation Y, in order to keep them in a company within the healthcare industry.

The study takes a starting point in the generation theory of Mannheim (1927) and motivational theories of Maslow (1943) and Vroom (1964), which have worked out as a scientific support in the search for the answer to the study’s problem formulation and questionnaire. In order to find the answer of the founded question a qualitative researching method has been used, with a complementary descriptive element in form of a ranking method. The collection of the empirical data was conducted using a case study against two different healthcare companies and a triangulation method. In total, 13 qualitative interviews were conducted with managers and employees, as well as a qualitative text analysis based on the case materials and policy documents, which together formed a triangulation method.

The result of this study present a difference between what managers believe motivates generation Y and what they are actually motivated by in practice. The motivational factors that was shown distinctive and important for employees belonging to generation Y to stay within the healthcare industry were Personal development, Cohesion and community and Safe employment conditions. However, it should be noted that this result was a generalization of the collected empirical data and does not constitute a presentation of what these employees individually are motivated by. Therefore, it is also considered essential that managers are working to identify the individual’s need of motivation at the workplace.

Hur rättfärdigar multinationella oljeföretag sin oljeutvinning?: En studie om multinationella oljeföretags hållbarhetsrapportering i Afrika2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The oil industry is one of the most controversial industries because it is destroying both immediate environments and large ecosystems. At the same time it is also one of the key industries for the world economy. The companies use sustainability reports to show stakeholders what they are doing to help the environment and society. The African continent is very rich in the natural resource of oil. Many of the oil-exporting countries have been affected by the “resource curse” which means that the countries have not managed to use this resource to develop communities and a better standard of living. For a long time multinational oil companies have made great gains in Africa. Companies must compensate the population for the extraction and the damage done to the environment and communities.

The purpose of this paper is to see what differences and similarities there are in the multinational oil companies’ sustainability reporting in Africa. In order to answer this purpose, the following research questions were asked: what questions do multinational oil companies in Africa focus on? What differences can we identify? And what similarities can we identify?

Using qualitative data analysis we have been able to answer the purpose. This approach has helped us to see what the multinational oil companies focus on in its sustainability reporting. This gives us an understanding of what is important for stakeholders on the continent. In the theoretical framework have theories about CSR been used. Stakeholder Theory has been lifted in to see the interaction between companies and their stakeholders. Legitimacy theory is used to show which indicators companies focus on to create legitimacy.

In the empirical part the study's results are presented by using charts to make it easier to see the differences and similarities that exist among the nine companies that were included in the study. The results were then analysed in order to reach a conclusion. In our study, we concluded that the companies where much involved in local communities. Similarities were seen in investment in infrastructure and jobs to the local population is a high priority among African communities. Differences were seen mainly in the category of human rights, several companies chose not to inform about this. The indicator communication with indigenous people was rare, only 3 companies did this and it was with the Nigerian indigenous people.

Kritiska framgångsfaktorer vid e-handelsinförande2005Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Healthcare staff's views on the patients' prerequisites to be co-creator in preventing healthcare-associated infections2019In: Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences, ISSN 0283-9318, E-ISSN 1471-6712Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background Every year, patients are affected by suffering and death caused by adverse events in connection with health care and the most common adverse events are healthcare-associated infections (HAI). The Swedish Patient Act from 2015 strengthens the patient's position in health care; however, there is lack of knowledge of how healthcare staff experience the possibilities to make the patient involved in the preventive work of HAI. Aim To describe healthcare professionals' views on the patient's prerequisites to be co-creator in preventing HAI in connection with hospital care. Method This study had a qualitative descriptive design with semi-structured individual interviews. Qualitative inductive content analysis was used to analyse the transcribed interview data. The study setting was a hospital in Sweden in 2015. Interviews were carried out among six healthcare professionals. Results In the analysis, 5 themes and 14 categories were identified in three different domains: Organisation, Healthcare staff and Patient. The result indicates an obstacle in each domain for the patient to become co-creator in preventing HAI. In Organisation domain, a lack of organizational structure such as elaborated working methods to involve the patient was pointed out. In the domain Healthcare staff, it showed that the professionals allocate the responsibility of preventing HAI to the patient but only if they had to or if they trusted the patient. In the Patient domain, the result states that the patient was perceived as passive; they did not take own initiatives to get involved. Conclusion The patient has an important role in successful HAI prevention work and should be considered as an obvious co-creator. Nevertheless, this study shows that neither organisation nor healthcare staff are sufficiently prepared for this. The organisation must make an anchored, structured and systematic work centred on the patient's needs and give more support both to healthcare professionals and patients.

KOGNITIVA ARBETSMILJÖPROBLEM OCH TEKNIKSTRESS I EN KOMPLEX VÅRDMILJÖ2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Optimeringsstrategier för en sökalgoritm i javascript2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Un estudio sobre anglicismos en prensa española2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [es]

DEVELOPING A FURNITURE TEST MACHINE ACCORDING TO NATIONAL STANDARDS: ENSURING QUALITY AND CREDIBILITY FOR THE SMEES IN SOUTH AFRICA2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In South Africa where the unemployment is immense, Small Micro and Medium enterprises (SMMEs) provide more than half of all job opportunities. Furntech, a non-profit organisation that works with vocational training and incubation within the furniture manufacturing sector in South Africa, wants to expand their testing laboratory with a machine to test mattresses according to local standards. The aim of this project is to develop a machine design to test innerspring mattresses by using product development methodology. Observations, interviews, and visits at companies in the furniture manufacturing sector is conducted to understand the needs from the user- and mechanical aspects. Existing and required additional parts to support the functionality for the test bedding machine has been evaluated by calculations and simulations by using for example ABAQUS and JACK.

A design is produced that meets the local standards by developing the existing table test machine in Furntech’s laboratory and is presented in a CAD-model. A scissor lift controls the vertical adjustment of the platform and an electric ball screw cylinder controls the compression of the mattresses. Instruction manuals, a graphical interface design, flowcharts and drawings of some of the parts has also been produced.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract [en]

A starting point for this thesis is that patients’ learning has not received sufficient attention and thus has not featured in the study programmes in the field of caring. Focus has instead been placed on patients being given information and advice about their illness and treatment, advice that they are then expected to comply with. Too little attention has been paid to the individual who lives with his/her illness and who should be considered to have significant experiences. The overall aim has been to analyze and describe the phenomenon of learning to live with long-term illness as well as to develop a didactic model that can help carers to support patients’ learning processes.

The theoretical perspective in the thesis is lifeworld theory, which permeates ontological, epistemological and methodological standpoints and also the view on learning. The design and carrying out of the research is based on a reflective lifeworld approach. The empirical study consists of interviews with people who live with different types of long-term illnesses.

The learning that follows life with a long-term illness is generated in such a way as to respond to the will to live the well-known everyday life. A greater understanding of the empirical results has been achieved by a lifeworld philosophical elucidation, with a particular focus on learning turning points and the importance of reflection. Based on the empirical results, the lifeworld philosophical elucidation and the caring science lifeworld didactics a didactic model has been formulated. This model is entitled: The challenge – to take charge of one’s life with long-term illness. The model contains four theses: 1) Confronting one’s life situation and challenging to make a change, 2) Positioning oneself at a distance when creating a new whole, 3) Developing self-consciousness and taking responsibility, 4) Making learning visible with the aim of providing development and balance in life.

The results in the thesis show that a genuine learning is something that differs from the learning of information and that the learning must be supported at an existential level based on the sufferer’s situation and for a long period of time.

The Movement to a New Understanding: A Life-World-Based Study about How People Learn to Live with Long-Term Illness2012In: Journal of Nursing & Care, ISSN 2167-1168, Vol. 1, no 6Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objective: The objective of the present study was to analyze and describe the phenomenon of learning to live with long-term illness.

Method: The design and implementation of the research was based on a reflective lifeworld approach. The study consisted of interviews with people who live with different types of long-term illness.

Results: Learning to live with a long-term illness happens in such a way as to respond to the will to live everyday life. The essential meaning of learning to live with long-term illness is constituted by the following elements: learning to know and live with a stranger, the driving forces of learning, learning methods are a balancing act, making the illness visible, as well as seeking knowledge and understanding. The result of the learning process can be understood as movement to a new understanding that is shown in the way the person with the illness acts and gives herself with the illness more space in life.

Conclusion: The results show that genuine learning is something that differs from learning information and that the learning must be supported by the sufferer’s situation for a long period of time at an existential level.

Learning turning points - in life with long-term illness - visualized with the help of the life-world philosophy2014In: International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, ISSN 1748-2623, E-ISSN 1748-2631, Vol. 9, article id 22842Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

A long-term illness is an occurrence that changes one’s life and generates a need to learn how to live with it. This article is based on an empirical study of interviews on people living with different long-term illnesses. The results have shown that the learning process is a complex phenomenon interwoven with life as a whole. The essential meaning of learning to live with long-term illness concerns a movement toward a change of understanding of access to the world. In this movement, in which everyday lives as well as relationships with oneself and others are affected, a continual renegotiation is needed. Texts from existential/lifeworld philosopher, Heidegger and Gadamer, have been used to get a greater understanding of the empirical results. These texts have been analysed with particular focus on learning turning points and the importance of reflection. The results are highlighted under the following themes: Pursuit of balance*the aim of learning, The tense grip*the resistance to learning, To live more really*the possibilities of the learning, Distancing*the how of the learning, and The tense of the learning*the whole of the learning. In those learning turning points are present. Knowledge from this study has been used to make a didactic model designed to give caregivers a tool to support patients’ learning. The didactic model is called: The challenge to take charge of life with a long-term illness.

Fluctuation between Powerlessness and Sense of Meaning: A Qualitative Study of Health Care Professionals’ Experiences of Providing Health Care to Older Adults with Long-Term Musculoskeletal Pain2015In: BMC Geriatrics, ISSN 1471-2318, E-ISSN 1471-2318, Vol. 15, article id 96Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: There is an increasing number of older adults living with long-term musculoskeletal pain and related disabilities. These problems are frequently unrecognized, underreported, and inadequately treated. Since many older adults desire to remain at home for as long as possible, it is important that individualized and holistically tailored care is provided in these settings. However, there is a complexity in providing care in this context.

The aim of this study was to describe health care professionals’ experiences of providing health care to older adults living with long-term musculoskeletal pain at home.

Methods: The phenomenon, “To provide health care to older adults living with long-term musculoskeletal pain at home”, was studied using reflective lifeworld research (RLR) which is based on phenomenological epistemology. Ten health care providers (nurse, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists) were interviewed and data was analysed.

Results: The health care professional’s emotions fluctuated between powerlessness and meaningfulness. Needs, opportunities, understanding and respect had to be balanced in the striving to do good in the provision of health care in differing situations. Caring for older adults with long-term pain required courage to remain in the encounter despite feelings of insecurity and uncertainty about the direction of the dialogue. The essence of caring for older adults with long-term pain consisted of the following constituents: Sense of powerlessness; striving to provide good health care; and understanding and respect.

Conclusions: The findings indicated that the health care professionals strived to do good and to provide health care that was holistic and sensitive to the older adults’ needs. A significant sense of powerlessness in the situation was experienced by the health care professionals. These findings address and support the need to develop methods that can be used to guide health care providers who support older adults in the context of their homes.

    Abstract [en]

Background: A major health problem that frequently accompanies old age is long-term pain, but pain must be acknowledged by older adults and health care providers. Interventions are needed to alleviate pain and suffering’ while holistically providing health care that promotes wellbeing. The intervention project, Reflective STRENGTHGiving Dialogues© (STRENGTH) was implemented to increase health and wellbeing among community dwelling older adults living with long-term musculoskeletal pain at home.

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the older adults’ experiences of the intervention Reflective STRENGTH-Giving Dialogue.

Method: A life world hermeneutic approach was used in collection and analysis of data. Twenty community dwelling older adults participated were interviewed in their homes after the intervention.

Findings: The findings consisted of five themes and showed that the older adults experienced the Reflective STRENGTH-Giving Dialogues as a continuous and trusting relationship that alleviates the pain and breaks the loneliness. They expressed it as a new way to talk about life with pain. The dialogues supported reflection and memory and resulted in a transition in orientation in life.

Conclusion: The Reflective STRENGTH-Giving Dialogues helped the older adults to increase their intellectual, emotional, and physical engagement in daily living. The dialogues facilitated a transition in orientation from past to present, to the future, and from obstacles to opportunities. The dialogues were oriented towards enjoyments, meaning, courage and strength in life as a whole which promoted the older adults’ sense of well-being and vitality. The dialogues also facilitated carrying out small and large life projects. The Reflective STRENGTH-Giving Dialogues created a deepened caring relationship that contributed to an increased sense of security, strength and courage, all of which enhanced the potential for better health and wellbeing.

Suffering caused by care - Patients' experiences from hospital settings2012In: International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, ISSN 1748-2623, E-ISSN 1748-2631, Vol. 7, article id 18688Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Suffering and well-being are significant aspects of human existence; in particular, suffering and well-being are important aspects of patients’ experiences following diseases. Increased knowledge about existential dimensions of illness and healthcare experiences may be needed in order to improve care and reduce unnecessary suffering. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to illuminate the phenomenon of suffering experienced in relation to healthcare needs among patients in hospital settings in Sweden. In this study, we used a reflective lifeworld approach. The data were analysed with a focus on meanings. The results describe the essential meaning of the phenomenon of suffering in relation to healthcare needs. The patients were suffering during care-giving when they felt distrusted or mistreated and when their perspective on illness and health was overlooked. Suffering was found to arise due to healthcare actions that neglected a holistic and patient-centred approach to care. Unfortunately, healthcare experiences that cause patients to suffer seem to be something one needs to endure without being critical. The phenomenon can be described as having four constituents: to be mistreated; to struggle for one’s healthcare needs and autonomy; to feel powerless; and to feel fragmented and objectified. The study concludes that there are problems associated with patients experiencing suffering at the hands of healthcare providers, even if this suffering may not have been caused deliberately to the patient. Consequently, conscious improvements are needed to lessen the suffering caused by care-giving, as are strategies that promote more patient-centred care and patient participation.

    Abstract [en]

Abilia develops, manufactures and sells aids for people who have either a physical or mental limitations that affect their everyday lives. In order to save money and get a better uniformity Abilia want to standardize the packaging and develop a flexible interior that can be adapted to many of the company’s products.

A pilot study laid the foundation for the project where many different areas and methods were examined. The existing packages were evaluated, and their and the products lifecycles were identified and that made it clear who the projects user was. They were interviewed and a product specification could be established. The pilot study resulted that it was two groups of products and the solution must be able to adapt to both. The solution must also be flexible to the products and their accessories. The Hjälpmedelscentralerna turned out to be the users in this project and they had requirements that the solution must be sustainable and provide a more structured inside of the packaging.

Concepts were generated with a practical idea generation that resulted in different forms and constructions. The concept selection was made after discussion with the staff from Abilia and through a balanced concept selection matrix. The project resulted in a flexible and durable interior in two parts. A product presentation part which has a design with folddown flaps that allows the product to get stuck no matter which size and a flexible accessory which can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally. The solution fulfills the requirements from the product specification and has been verified by expert that it would work in real situation. The material in the solution is the best suited for the function and it is also the material with the lowest environmental impact of those surveyed in the project.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

There is a need in the clinical microbiological laboratory for rapid and reliable methods for the universal identification of fungal pathogens. Two different regions of the rDNA gene complex, the highly polymorphic ITS1 and ITS2, were amplified using primers targeting conserved regions of the 18S, 5.8S and 28S genes. After melting-point analysis of the amplified products, the Tm of the two PCR-products were plotted into a spot diagram where all the 14 tested, clinically relevant yeasts separated with good resolution. Real-time amplification of two separate genes, melting-point analysis and two-dimensional plotting of Tm data can be used as a broad-range method for the identification of clinical isolates of pathogenic yeast such as Candida and Cryptococcus spp.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The teacher today is offered a great choice of teaching material that can contribute to variation in teaching. The choice of teaching material depends on various elements such as: student group, their performance, interest, motivation, time, and economic means of the school. Our study presents one teacher and her five students´ experiences of their English teaching and their view on teaching material. Qualitative research method based upon interviews with one teacher and her five students was used in the study. Our aim is to illustrate the five students´ and one teacher´s experience of the English teaching in the 9 and evaluation of teaching material.

The result of the study shows that students strive for more spoken English during their lessons but it seems that teaching materials do not provide for it. In spite of that students have a positive attitude towards the teaching materials used for their English studies and they are aware of advantages with proficiency in this subject. The importance of the English language for global communication points out. The students emphasise the importance of IKT as a teaching material for their education but they argue that its use is limited. The teacher emphasizes the importance of various elements and their influence on choice, planning and structure of the English teaching. These elements are: students´ different needs, their ability to take responsibility, their maturity, economic means and time. Well structured way of English teaching is appreciated by both teacher and the students since it clarifies teaching in the whole class. Apart from that well-structured teaching based upon the textbook it simplifies for the teacher to follow the curriculum. Concerning students´ participation in choice, use and evaluation of the teaching materials the study shows that their participation was little. Students considered that the teacher with her qualifications and expertise is the one who should decide about teaching and that in school there is already a great deal of demand on them.

A tool to assist and evalute workstation design2013In: Proceedings of NES 2013, 45th Nordic Ergonomics & Human Factors Society conference, Iceland, August 2013, 2013Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

It can be argued that it is common that industrial workstations are “built” rather than purposefully designed with user and task requirements in mind. Afterwards, built-in problems typically need to be corrected, causing undesired costs and efforts. With the objective to assist workstation designers in avoiding most problems already in the design phase, a design support tool is being developed. The paper argues the need for such a tool and presents the fundamental tool functionality. Expected advantages are more efficient and ergonomic workstations and a more efficient design process with built-in learning and documentation.

Implementation of Suitable Comfort Model for Posture and Motion Prediction in DHM Supported Vehicle Design2015In: Procedia Manufacturing, ISSN 2351-9789, Vol. 3, p. 3753-3758Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Driver-vehicle interaction analyses are done to ensure a successful vehicle design from an ergonomics perspective. Digital Human Modelling (DHM) tools are often used to support such verifications, particularly at early stages of the product development process. When verifying that a vehicle design accommodates the diversity of users and tasks, a DHM tool needs to be able to represent postures and motions that are likely under certain conditions. This functionality is essential so that the tool user will obtain objective and repeatable simulation results. The DHM tool IMMA (Intelligently Moving Manikins) predicts postures and motions by using computational methods. This offers the possibility to generate postures and motions that are unique for the present design conditions. IMMA was originally developed for simulating manual assembly work, whereas the work presented here is a step towards utilizing the IMMA tool for occupant packaging and related tasks. The objective is a tool for virtual verification of driver-vehicle interaction that supports and automates the simulation work to a high degree. The prediction functionality in IMMA is based on the use of optimization algorithms where one important component is the consideration of comfort level. This paper reports results from an basic investigation of driving postures and available comfort models suitable in a driving context, and shows initial results of seated posture and motion prediction functionality in the IMMA tool.

Implementation of Suitable Comfort Model for Posture and Motion Prediction in DHM Supported Vehicle Design2015In: Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics (AHFE 2015), AHFE , 2015Conference paper (Refereed)

    Abstract [en]

In a large part of the industrial accidents different kinds of forklifts are involved. Collision protection barriers are often used to prevent pedestrians from coming into direct contact with industrial vehicles. The Volvo Group Truck Operations facility in Skövde uses such collision protection barriers to separate pedestrians from industrial traffic. Volvo’s welded steel collision protection barriers are constructed in place, depending on need, and are fastened to the concrete floor with expander bolts. The barriers are, therefore, difficult to disassemble and reuse in other locations. Volvo has requested the development of a conceptual design of a reusable and repairable modular collision protection barrier. To ensure that the specifications for the product are fulfilled strength calculations are performed.

In order to complete the work a literature survey is carried out where current collision protection barriers, fastening methods for concrete, methods of calculations, safety demands and a product developing process are examined. Interviews are conducted and on-site observations are made to identify the necessary specifications. Observations showed that in a collision the expander bolts often tear loose from the concrete floor due to the robustness of the current collision barriers. The specifications are used to generate concepts. The developed concepts are evaluated and evolved in an iterative process where the specifications are refined at each step. The result, a modular conceptual design with two different alternatives to fasten it to the concrete floor, is presented. The idea is that the conceptual design shall be sized to give way at the maximum load of the fastening alternative.

Strength calculations, performed on the most critical components, shows that it is difficult to size the collision protection barrier to guarantee that the intended component breaks in a collision. A Failure Mode and Effects Analysis is conducted to identify any flaws in the conceptual design and suggestions to address the flaws are made.

The conceptual design fulfils the specifications that are currently possible to evaluate. These specifications are that the design is modular, easy to disassemble, repair and reuse, easy to store and meets the safety demands.

Further work with strength calculations and sizing of the collision protection barrier is required. To ensure that the specifications are fulfilled and that the collision protection barrier behaves as desired in a collision it is recommended that prototypes be manufactured and tested.

Cellulär automat simulerar utbredning av Taraxacum2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Viral marknadsföring för MMO-spel: Att marknadsföra spel som Dreamlords: The Reawakening2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Urinary incontinence is a common problem among women where prevalence increases with age. There are three types of urinary incontinence: urge, stress and mixed urinary incontinence. Existing treatment methods focus on decreasing suffering. Urinary incontinence in women affects their well-being, increases suffering and decreases autonomy.

Aim: To describe women’s experiences living with urinary incontinence

Method: General literature review, where ten articles were basis for the result.

Results: Women generally experience that their daily lives are affected and changed by living with urinary incontinence. They describe how they create their own strategies to recapture control over their daily lives. Living with urinary incontinence causes impaired well-being because of the experience of shame and embarrassment which affect their relationships and social life with others.

Conclusion: To cope with everyday life, the women create their own strategies, which include always being aware of where the nearest toilet is or to bring extra clothes when leaving home. The strategies mean that women experience reduced stress and worry about urinary leakage. Involuntary urinary retention affects women physically and mentally, which means that it is important that healthcare professionals have good knowledge and insight into the life of patients with urinary incontinence living daily.

Patients' satisfaction with the care offered by advanced practice nurses: A new role in Swedish primary care2013In: International Journal of Nursing Practice, ISSN 1322-7114, E-ISSN 1440-172X, Vol. 19, no 3, p. 326-333Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to describe patients' satisfaction with the new role of advanced practice nurses (APNs) in Swedish primary care. A questionnaire pertaining to patient satisfaction with the care offered by APNs was sent to respondents. Descriptive statistics, a chi-squared test and manifest qualitative content analysis were used during analysis. Although the results show an overall high level of patient satisfaction as regards APN-led care, those patients informed of the APN role prior to a consultation were significantly more satisfied. Respondents' comments indicate that professional treatment and competence are characteristic of the care offered by APNs and also relate the concepts of increased availability of and continuity in health care to the APN role. In order to guarantee the positive development of the APN role in Sweden, continued research is needed from patient, organizational and interprofessional perspectives, including intervention studies of cost effectiveness and the quality of care.

Lärares val: En studie om undervisningsformer ur lärarperspektiv2010Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The background to this study is an interest for teacher’s thoughts about choices and teachingmethods and motives for these choices. A question is about the meaning of professional experience and the importance of choices in teachingmethods according to the teachers. The purpose of the study is thru a qualitative study examine teacher’s thoughts and statements about choices of teachingmethods to shed a light on different teachingmethods in early years in school. The teachingmethods that are highlighted are individual work, groupwork and wholeclassteaching. The method in this study is qualitative and based on interviews. The result that can be drawn of the study is that teachers mean that teachingmethods are chosen by ruling factors as studentgroups, contents in teaching and curriculum. A motive that emerged was that the teachers in the study meant that teachingmethods where structure and obvious frames in teaching where used. The conclusion is that teachers with long work experience matters for the choices of teaching methods. The teachers that have been working for a long time mean that they have more experience and more methods to choose from. A discussion about the effect of the increasing use of individualwork is that the school is fostering individualists that are going to a work in an environment where group and team work is prominent. The study establishes that the choice of teaching methods not always can be chosen by visions. The choice has a start from the composition of the group of students, size of the group and the content of teaching.
