The ecological footprint on the Earth is increasing as more and more industries are built. As a result of the increasing industrialization firmer demands are implemented for the industries to see to it that their toxic waste is taken care of to reduce the environmental impact. The work of this report is made for developing an oil stop prototype for the company Furhoffs in Västra Götalands County, Sweden. The oil stops function is to prevent light liquids that are harmful for the environment from flowing into the drains. The work begins with a market study to study other products on the market. After the initial market investigation and in consultation with Furhoffs development department it was decid-ed that the prototype should have a mechanical seal. Based on the market study seven con-cepts were developed and two were presented to Furhoffs after evaluation. The prototype in the report called concept 7 was chosen for further development. Concept 7 was then developed to meet the standards according to oil-stops. The result of the development process was that Furhoffs decided to proceed with concept 7 from concept level to produce a prototype. In the future the prototype will be further evaluated and then possibly added to the product assortment of Furhoffs.
