Librarians' views of academic library support for scholarly publishing: An every-day perspective2013In: The journal of academic librarianship, ISSN 0099-1333, E-ISSN 1879-1999, Vol. 39, no 3, p. 232-240Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article reports on a study of academic librarians' views of their work and possibilities regarding support for researchers' publishing. Institutional repositories and Open Access are areas being dealt with in particular. Methods used are highly qualitative; data was gathered at two Swedish university libraries over a six month period through focus group interview sessions and personal logs by informants. Findings indicate that attitudes are often in collision with practicalities in the daily work in libraries. Even though they have a high degree of knowledge and awareness of scholarly publication patterns, librarians often feel insecure in the approach of researchers. There is a felt redirection in the focus of academic librarianship, from pedagogical information seeking tasks towards a more active publication support, a change which also includes a regained prominence for new forms of bibliographical work. Although there are some challenges, proactive attitudes among librarians are felt as being important in developing further support for researchers' publishing.

Age-related differences in seeking clarification to understand medical record information2019In: Information research, ISSN 1368-1613, E-ISSN 1368-1613, Vol. 24, no 1, article id isic1834Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Introduction Patient accessible electronic health records can be used to inform and empower patients. However, their use may require complementary information seeking since they can be difficult to interpret. So far, relatively little is known of the information seeking that takes place in connection to health record use, and especially the way it varies in different age groups. A better understanding of patients' preferences of where and how to find explanatory information provides valuable input for the development of health information provision and counselling services. Method. The analysis is based on the results of a national survey of Swedish individuals (N=1,411) who had used a national patient accessible electronic health record system (Journalen). Analysis. The data were analysed in SPSS 24.0 using Kruskal-Wallis tests for detecting groupwise differences and Jonckheere-Terpstra tests for discovering age-related trends in the data. Findings. Older patients were more likely to use a telephone and younger patients to use socia l contacts to ask for clarification. Generally, older adults born between 1946-1960 appear as passive information seekers. Conclusion. Age gro ups differ in their preferences on how to seek clarification, which underlines the importance of a better understanding of individual differences in delivering not only technically but also intellectually accessible health information. Calling by telephone could be a habit of present older generations whereas, to a degree, searching information online could be a comparable habit of current younger generations.

    Abstract [sv]

Narrativa strukturer i lärospel: Narrativa strukturers påverkan på elevers minne i skolmiljö2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Systembryggan för e-referens: En lägesrapport2004In: Tidskrift för dokumentation, ISSN 0040-6872, Vol. 59, no 3, p. 71-75Article in journal (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [sv]

In Sweden there is one consortium for virtual reference for each public and research library. The research libraries’ service Librarian On Duty, which uses VRLplus, is a pedagogical service where the patron gets a personal guidance by a librarian via chat and co-browsing. Librarian On Duty is more of a general resource than a specialist resource. This means that very specialised questions may not be answered directly, but instead be directed to the most suitable librarian. Depending on the patron’s requirements, the librarian on duty can transfer the question to a colleague at the same library or to another library within the consortia. Librarian on Duty is already in use by half of Sweden’s research libraries.

The corresponding service for the public libraries, Ask the Library, is a virtual reference service with many years of experience, the e-mail service was started already in 1998, now consists of 36 libraries that answer e-mail questions and 14 of those libraries also taking part in a chat service. To make a whole new collaboration between and within the consortia possible, the public libraries will change systems to VRLplus, i.e. the same system that is used by the research libraries.

By organizing in two consortia, using the same software, there is a possibility for the two library types to develop a whole new model for collaboration. This new model implies that each library has its own local installation to give service to their local users in the first hand. Each library also participates in one of the national consortia where there is a collaboration to give service during evenings and weekends.

The new possibilities for cooperation means that each library, by using the systems bridge between the consortia, can define new collaborative partners and thus create whole new virtual reference services. These new services may consist of public, school and research libraries within a region, ”Ask Stockholm”. It may also be a subject based cooperation within the research libraries, e.g. ”Ask The Law Librarian”. Other examples may include cooperation between children’s libraries, “Ask The Children’s Librarian”.

The operators staffing the different services will always get an indication if the question is coming from the local, national or some of the other services that are connected to the operator’s library.

This means increased possibilities for specialization and development, and whole new collaborative constellations between libraries can emerge, while still maintaining the basic responsibility for the local users.

Konfigurerbar systembrygga mellan Jourhavande bibliotekarie och Fråga biblioteket: Slutrapport2004Report (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [sv]

Competence Clusters for Virtual Information Service2006In: Proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Technology Supported Learning & Training, Berlin: Online Educa , 2006Conference paper (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [en]

In Sweden there is one consortium for virtual references for each public and research library. The research libraries’ service Librarian On Duty, which uses VRLplus, is a pedagogical service where the patron gets a personal guidance by a librarian via chat and co-browsing. Librarian On Duty is more of a general resource than a specialist one. This means that very specialised questions may not be answered directly, but instead be directed to the most suitable librarian. To make a whole new collaboration between and within the consortia possible, the public libraries will change systems to VRLplus, i.e. the same system that is used by the research libraries.

    A new model for collaboration

By organizing in two consortia, using the same software, there is a possibility for the two organizational types to develop a whole new model for collaboration. This new model implies that each organization could have its own local installation to give service to their local users in the first hand. Each organization participates in the national or international consortias where there is a collaboration to give service around the clock.

The new possibilities for cooperation mean that each organization, by using the systems bridge between the consortias, can define new collaborative partners on a national or international basis and thus create whole new virtual information services. These new services may consist of university and research organizations and governmental institutions within a region, e.g. ”Ask Scandinavia”, or be built by competence. It may also be a subject-based cooperation within a European Union area, e.g. ”Ask ECDC”. Other examples may include cooperation between different competences and professions, e.g. “Ask EUROPE DIRECT”.

This means increased possibilities for specialization and development, and whole new collaborative constellations between libraries and other community-based services can emerge while still maintaining the basic responsibility for the local users. This is enabled by a tool that is under constant development.

The leading ideas to make this a successful service are:

    - Guidance suited to the needs of the questioner

    - Creative reference and information work

    - Competence development for the information professionals

    - Rationalisation of scarce resources

    - Higher quality of information services, both off and on campus

    Abstract [en]

The number of scholarly publications on the topic of biosensors has increased rapidly; as a result, it is no longer easy to build an informed overview of the developments solely by manual means. Furthermore, with many new research results being continually published, it is useful to form an up-to-date understanding of the recent trends or emergent directions in the field. This paper utilizes bibliometric methods to provide an overview of the developments in the topic based on scholarly publications. The results indicate an increasing interest in the topic of biosensor(s) with newly emerging sub-topics. The US is identified as the country with highest total contribution to this area, but as a collective, EU countries top the list of total contributions. An examination of trends over the years indicates that in recent years, China-based authors have been more productive in this area. If research contribution per capita is considered, Singapore takes the top position, followed by Sweden, Switzerland and Denmark. While the number of publications on biosensors seems to have declined in recent years in the PubMed database, this is not the case in the Web of Science database. However, there remains an indication that the rate of growth in the more recent years is slowing. This paper also presents a comparison of the developments in publications on biosensors with the full set of publications in two of the main journals in the field. In more recent publications, synthetic biology, smartphone, fluorescent biosensor, and point-of-care testing are among the terms that have received more attention. The study also identifies the top authors and journals in the field, and concludes with a summary and suggestions for follow up research.

    Abstract [en]

Software innovation - the ability to produce novel and useful software systems - is an important capability for software development organizations and information system developers alike. However, the software development literature has traditionally focused on automation and efficiency while the innovation literature has given relatively little consideration to the software development context. As a result, there is a gap in our understanding of how software product and process innovation can be managed. Specifically, little attention has been directed toward synthesising prior learning or providing an integrative perspective on the key concepts and focus of software innovation research. We therefore identify 93 journal articles and conference papers within the domain of software innovation and analyse repeating patterns in this literature using content analysis and causal mapping. We identify drivers and outputs for software innovation and develop an integrated theory-oriented concept map. We then discuss the implications of this map for future research.

    Stakeholder theory for the E-government context: Framing a value-oriented normative core2018In: Government Information Quarterly, ISSN 0740-624X, E-ISSN 1872-9517, Vol. 35, no 3, p. 362-374Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Despite substantial investments in ICT in the public sector over the past decades, it has been hard to achieve consistent benefits. One reason for the difficulties is the gap between the expectations of key stakeholders (such as governments, businesses and citizens) and project outcomes. Though normative, descriptive and instrumental aspects of stakeholder theory have been influential in explaining stakeholder interests and relationships in the management field, e-Government researchers have rather neglected the normative core of the theory. We show how value theory can improve normative foundations in this area to provide a focused analysis of four e-Government projects. We use a multiple case study approach to study the values of salient stakeholders, demonstrating how the combination of value theory and stakeholder theory provides greater explanatory power than either of the theories in isolation. Our work shows how stakeholders´ interests are bound to generic value positions and allow us to formulate implications for research and practice.
