Bakgrund: Varje år insjuknar cirka 30 000 personer i Sverige i stroke. Stroke kan göra så att livet förändras på ett ögonblick, det som tidigare varit självklart och tagits förgivet som att gå, tala eller äta själv blir en stor utmaning. Stroke kan leda till drastiska förändringar i både identitet och personlighet på grund av psykiska, fysiska och sociala begränsningar.Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva patienters upplevelser av sin vardag efter att ha drabbats av en stroke.Metod: Studien har genomförts som en kvalitativ litteraturöversikt, baserad på 15 artiklar av kvalitativ ansats.Resultat: Resultatet visade patienters upplevelser av sin vardag efter en stroke, tre huvudkategorier hittades: Kroppsliga begränsningar, en förändrad vardag och nya möjligheter i vardagen. Vardagen efter stroke är en individuell upplevelse för varje patient, och beroende på vilka konsekvenser sjukdomen orsakat upplevs olika svårigheter. Gemensamt för nästan alla patienter har varit att livsvärlden och det dagliga livet förändrats kraftigt till följd av stroken.Slutsats: Varje människas situation är unik, och det är av stor vikt för vårdpersonal att behärska kunskapen om vilka följder en stroke kan ge. Detta för att utveckla rätt stöd och strategier för att återhämtningen ska bli optimal, och för att minska det sjukdoms och livslidande som flesta utav patienterna anser sig ha i sin vardag

Background: Every year approximately 30 000 people in Sweden gets hit by a stroke. A stroke can cause life changes in a second, and things that had previously been taken for granted such as walking, speaking or eating becomes a big challenge. Stroke can lead to drastic changes in both the identity and personality because of mental, physical and social limitations.Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe patients' experiences of their everyday life after strokeMethod: The study was carried out as a literature review, based on fifteen qualitative studies.Results: The results revealed patients' experiences of their everyday life after a stroke, and three main categories were found: Physical limitations, a changed every-day life and new opportunities in everyday life. The everyday life after a stroke is an individual experience for each patient and depending on which consequences the disease has caused these experiences are different. Common to almost all patients were that there life-world and daily life changed dramatically after a stroke.Conclusion: Every person's situation is unique, and it is of great importance for health professionals to master the knowledge of what the consequences of a stroke can bring, thus to insure that the development of the right support and strategies for recovery are optimal, and to reduce the suffering the patient can experience both from the disease but also in their everyday life
