MOTIVATE YOUR STAFF IN BUSINESS : Depending on the number of employees (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

It is important for becoming and practicing store managers to create work motivation with his/her staff as the employees are the company’s most important resource. Store managers must be prepared that the amount of staff may vary and because of that it’s important to be able to motivate many as well as few employees to work. This paper is intended to, using a store manager’s perspective, describe how the store manager is acting when it comes to motivating their staff to work in a large store with many employees and a small store with few employees. This is done in order to clarify the similarities and differences that exist in the store managers’ acting the employees’ motivation to work depending on the amount of staff. To get an insight into reality, we have interviewed two store managers, one in a large store and one in a small store and compared their approaches to motivate their staff to work. There are many theories that explain what people are motivated by. This paper evaluates need theories such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs and McClelland’s need theory and theories of job design such as Herzberg’s two factor theory and Hackman & Oldham’s theory. After preformed analysis, we conclude that the differences mainly are the opportunity to benefits and further education together with feedback.
