IT architectures are of central importance to organizations today, and it is therefore essential to think and plan strategically for their composition, acquisition, maintenance, and evolution. IT strategies thereby become an important tool for organizational growth. However, even if strategies exist to some extent, primarily in large organizations, they are rarely used, disseminated or updated in a systematic way. This paper provides a strategy framework comprised of: strategy types, an extended strategic management process, and recommendations for how to manage various strategies. The overview can be used as a roadmap for organizations to facilitate their overall strategic planning.
