The need for support to relatives of persons suffering from severe mental illness (English)
Abstract [sv]

Research specifically concentrating on the relatives need for different types of support has not emerged. The purpose of this study was to compile and describe different needs for support to relatives of persons suffering from severe mental illness from former research. This study was made as a literature review. 12 articles about experiences in relatives and their need for support was selected and analysed. The result shows that relatives are in need for different types of support from care staff. Six types of support was classified in this study; to always have the possibilities to contact care staff, to gain information from care staff, to get attention and have conversations, to participate in support groups, to participate in the care and to hand over the responsibility. The results in this study can be applied by nurses in all care institutions in their care for persons suffering from severe mental illness and their relatives.
