The role of communication in the crisis (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The Covid-19-pandemic brought about changes for both individuals and organizations, and no one was prepared for this crisis. Communication, especially internal crisis communication, is crucial for supporting employees within an organization during such a crisis. An important aspect of this is enabling employees to understand and interpret the situation, a process known as sensemaking. This study examines how communication affects employees’ ability to create meaning and manage their tasks effectively. The theoretical framework in the study helps to create a deeper understanding of crisis communication, internal crisis communication, and sensemaking, as well as how these factors impact organizations in different ways. The study is based on qualitative research using semi-structured interviews. One leader and six employees from an organization participated to provide insights and help answer the research question. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of effective crisis communication and sensemaking, and how essential it is for employees to be able to understand and interpret crisis situations. The conclusion also discusses the critical role that leadership plays in establishing clear and supportive communication during a crisis.
