This thesis examines how semiotics embedded with cultural and social meanings influence players' affective experiences in narrative gaming. Through a detailed analysis of the single-player, narrative-driven puzzle game "Clear and Bright," this study explores the intersection of game design and cultural semiotics. "Clear and Bright" integrates specific Chinese historical and social contexts to craft its narrative, presenting unique challenges and opportunities in engaging international audiences. By employing qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviews and questionnaires, this project assesses the impact of culturally relevant semiotics on the emotional engagement of players from diverse backgrounds. The findings aim to contribute to the broader understanding of culturalization in game design, offering insights into how effectively can games convey cultural and emotional depth to a global audience.
