Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
The present study has been carried out using a qualitative method, where semi-structured interviews were conducted. The purpose of this study was to create a deeper understanding regarding how organizational cultures within three banks in Skaraborg are shaped and what role leadership plays in this formation of these cultures. The reason why three banks in Skaraborg has been studied was because it has long existed an old banking culture which meant that the men have had the highest positions while the women worked more administratively. The culture seems to have lingered on even today since the majority of the higher positions still is dominated by men within the banking sector. The authors of this study wanted therefore to investigate how organizational cultures are shaped and what role leadership plays in this. Good organizational cultures generate competitive advantages and is crucial for the survival of organizations wherein leadership also is of great importance. The purpose of this study is fulfilled by help of respondents who have shared their own stories. The respondents were six in number which all were in leading positions within banks in Skaraborg. By using theories regarding for instance organizational culture and leadership the authors of the study could understand and easier interpret the collected data, in this way, certain factors that shape organizational cultures and the role of leadership in this could be discerned. The results show some distinctive factors which are important in the shaping of organizational cultures. These are artifacts in the form of the company's structure, rituals, how the employees dress within the bank and the process in which individuals are socialized into the organization. The role of leadership in shaping the organizational cultures is identified as the leader's personality traits, stereotypes and to some extent gender and sex.
