HRM in the CEO role : Navigating skill shortages from the perspective of small tech companies (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Effective personnel management has gained increased importance in today's job market. In the tech industry, suffering from skills shortages and fierce competition, investments in HRM become crucial for companies' growth and competitiveness. Despite this, smaller companies in the tech industry have received limited attention in HRM research, making it important to examine how CEOs in these companies interpret and implement HRM to address specific challenges within the industry.

Purpose: The study examines how CEOs in small tech companies manage and interpret HRM during skills shortages in the industry.

Method: The method section of the study entails a qualitative research approach with semi-structured interviews as the research design, where the analysis is based on the empirical data collected and connected with the theoretical framework.

Conclusion: CEOs in smaller tech companies employ various strategies to address skills shortages in the market. Their approaches include integrating HRM with the company's overall business strategy, prioritizing the creation of a positive corporate culture, and offering opportunities for skill development. The actions of these CEOs indicate a proactive strategic leadership style and demonstrate thoughtful strategies for addressing both current and future challenges within the tech industry.
