This study seeks to bridge the gap between the past and the future, drawing inspiration from 18th century phantasmagoria performances and modern VR game design. Through a combination of quantitative analysis, measuring physiological responses and player feedback, as well as qualitative analysis of interviews and observations, this research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of a combination of phantasmagoria performance elements and VR on player immersion through a unique horror gaming experience. Ultimately, by incorporating this forgotten art form within today’s digital landscape, this study hopes to create opportunities for VR technology to redefine the boundaries of horror gaming, potentially creating new avenues for storytelling, gameplay mechanics, and player engagement. The findings of this study will contribute to the ongoing discourse in the field of VR gaming and pave the way for further advancements and innovations in this exciting domain.
