Riskfactors for overweight and obesity among children : A literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Introduction: In recent decades, child obesity has grown into a global epidemic. Today, this is considered a risk factor for various diseases, including hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Purpose: The purpose of this literature review is to highlight risk factors that can be taken into account regarding children's overweight and obesity in China and in the Nordic countries.

Method: By several searches in the databases PubMed, CINAHL and EBSCO MEDLINE, a literature review was made in which ten scientific original articles were selected in the chosen area.

Result: The study showed that socioeconomic status, dietary patterns, mental illness, physical activity and sleep were associated with overweight and obesity in children.

Discussion: It is more complicated to know whether a child is overweight compared to adults, as children are still growing and developing. Different studies showed that many factors seem to affect each other regarding overweight and obesity among children.
