How is leadership affected by cultural differences when expatriating? (English)
Abstract [sv]

The GLOBE Study of 62 Societies.

Abstract [en]

In this study, it will be investigated how Swedish management styles are influenced by national cultures when Swedish companies expand abroad using semi-structured interviews. Four leaders who worked both in Sweden and abroad were interviewed and their answers were then analyzed based on Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions and The GLOBE Study of 62 Societies. According to the leaders' answers and the theoretical frame of reference, they need to adapt their leadership style in order for it to be effective in another culture and it thus becomes a mixture of the Swedish leadership style and the leadership style that a leader is expected to have in the country to which they expatriate. While some of the positive elements from the Swedish leadership style disappear, positive traits from the other culture are being used.
