Development of body armor for female users in the Swedish armed forces (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

There has been a shift in gender distribution within the Swedish Armed Forces. The proportion of women is increasing, which means that equipment needs to be adapted to female users. Existing body armor is designed for a typical male body. On behalf of SnigelDesgin, this thesis has identified physical, cognitive and emotional needs of the female user in order to develop an optimal protective vest that is adapted to the target group. It has also been studied if the needs overlap for male users. The protective vest has also been developed with sustainable development in mind. Through a broad preliminary study containing a literature study and user study, several needs have been identified and complied to a requirement specification. An iterative phase has been carried out with idea generation, conceptualization, prototyping and user tests. The thesis has resulted in a final prototype that has been tested and evaluated by users within the target group. Several of the identified needs have been shown to overlap between women and men. The difference is anthropometry and anatomy.
