This thesis project has been conducted at LEAX Skaraborg that manufactures products for automotive and transport industry, for instance companion flanges for trucks. The company has problems with errors in dimensional tolerance of the companion flange when wear in the broach starts to occur. A result of dimensional errors is that the parts are discarded which effects the sustainability of the company. Broaching is the second to last step in manufacturing of the companion flanges which leads to wasted energy when scrapped. The purpose of the study was to analyze a new fixture concept and adjust the components of the fixture to ensure functionality and compare it to the current fixture, used to hold the companion flange in the broaching machine that is used in production today. Finite element simulations were performed using the software Abaqus CAE to compare displacement of the companion flange attached to the different fixtures. Simulations suggests that the new fixture with some changes improves dimensional errors that occurred in the current fixture. Further work to reduce dimensional errors could be to investigate the effects of displacements in the broach, broach holder and guidelines. This is to evaluate if the displacements are large and result in dimensional errors of the companion flange.
