Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study will refer to motivation in startup-companies. The study will examine various motivational factors and entrepreneurs work towards motivation. The aim of this study is to investigate and find out how entrepreneurs in startup-companies with limited financial resources motivate their employees. Another aim is to also discover what motivates employees in the startup-companies. The theory that’s been used in this study is based on theories linked to motivation and performance. All the chosen respondents that have been interviewed have been involved in a startup company at an early stage. They have been involved as an owner/CEO or as an employee. The interviews that have been done are semi-structured. The method that is used in this study is a qualitative one. The interviews that have been done are semi-structured. 8 interviews have been done in which four of the interviews are conducted to the owner/CEO in a startup-company. The other four interviews are conducted to the employees in a startup-company. This study and its results shows that there are various factors for motivation that are important for the employees. The result also shows that non-monetary motivational factors are more important than monetary motivation factors, which in this case is salary. This is evident for startup-companies that have limited financial resources. The conclusion of this study refers to the motivational factors that have been most essential for increasing motivation.
