Assistant-nurses in home care : Does work experience influence the experience of meaningfulness and social support at work? (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Problem: There are increasingly high demands on nursing staff and sickness absence is high among assistant nurses. In care and socialcare, psychosocial workloads occur. This has sparked interest in investigating the psychosocial work environment of assistant nurses.

Purpose: This study investigates whether professional experience has an impact on the psychosocial factors, meaningfulness and social support for assistant nurses in home care.

Theory: The study's theoretical framework is based on Herzberg's hygiene and motivation theory, the demand-control-support model and sense of coherense (KASAM).

Method: The study was based on a quantitative methodology. The study's selection method was based on convenience sampling. The sample consisted of assistant nurses who worked in three municipalities (Skövde, Skara & Tibro). A total of 71 respondents answered the survey. To analyze the data, two regression analyzes were carried out.

Results: The result could not demonstrate that the dependent variable professional experience affects the two independent variables meaningfulness and social support. The analysis also checked the effects of gender, age and municipality. It is interesting to note that the factors gender and municipality the assistant nurses worked in affect (p <0.05) social support.
