The Internet, considered the most fast-growing technology ever, is starting to arrive in everyone’s homes regularly. No longer just smartphones, computers, or tablets, now even refrigerators, washing machines, and other household appliances support Internet connection. The more internet connections increase, the more homes are exposed to attacks every day. Companies work hard to protect devices from attacks by periodically releasing security updates that, in most cases, are never executed. The longer devices remain out of date, the more vulnerable they remain, therefore, they continuously risk network attacks. This study presents SafeHome, a cross-platform mobile application that aims to shorten the gap between the release of an update and the actual device’s update. With SafeHome, also people who are not familiar with technology will be able to increase the security of their homes with a few simple steps: pressing a button to scan the home network and just waiting until an update is released for one of the scanned devices. The final result is still a prototype that follows the rules of a research study which highlights the possibility to reach the goal when technology will make another step forward.
