Bakgrund: Rapid sequence induction (RSI) som induktionsteknik har ökat i användande och innebär att tiden från start av anestesi tills att luftvägarna är säkra ska ta så kort tid som möjligt för att minska risken för aspiration hos patienter som räknas som icke fastande. RSI används på barn och vuxna i både elektiva och akuta fall. RSI innehåller flera olika moment där tillvägagångssättet och handhavandet kan variera beroende på vilken avdelning det utförs på.

Syfte: Att undersöka vilka faktorer som påverkar anestesisjuksköterskan inför rapid sequence induction (RSI).

Metod: En tvärsnittsstudie med en kvantitativ enkätundersökning som distribuerades till anestesisjuksköterskor i Sverige. Analysen har genomförts med deskriptiv och statistisk analys.

Resultat: Patientens ålder och anestesisjuksköterskans erfarenhet är faktorer som kan påverka anestesisjuksköterskan inför RSI. Anestesisjuksköterskor med längre erfarenhet påverkas mindre inför RSI än de med lägre grad av erfarenhet oavsett åldersgrupp på patienten. Anestesisjuksköterskan påverkas mer av att genomföra RSI på förlossningsavdelningen och akutmottagningen än på operationsavdelningen.

Konklusion: Studien visar att flertalet faktorer påverkar anestesisjuksköterskan inför RSI. Faktorer som påverkar mest är vilken plats RSI ska utföras och patientens ålder. Erfarenheten hos anestesisjuksköterskan har en betydande roll i hur stor grad anestesisjuksköterskan påverkas av de olika faktorerna.

Background: Rapid sequence induction (RSI) as an induction technique has increased in use and means that the time from the start of anesthesia until the airway is secured should take as short time as possible to reduce the risk of aspiration in patients who are considered not fasting. RSI is used on children and adults in both elective and emergency cases. RSI contains several different elements where the approach and handling may vary depending on the department in which it is carried out.

Purpose: To investigate which factors influence the anesthesia nurse before Rapid sequence induction (RSI).

Method: A cross-sectional study with a quantitative survey that was distributed to anesthesia nurses in Sweden. The analysis has been carried out with descriptive and statistical analysis.

Results: The patient's age and the nurse anesthetist's experience are factors that can influence the nurse anesthetist before RSI. Anesthetist nurses with more experience are less affected by RSI than those with a lower degree of experience, regardless of the patient's age group. The nurse anesthetist is more affected by performing RSI in the maternity ward and the emergency department than in the operating room.

Conclusion:The study shows that several factors influence the anesthesia nurse before RSI. Factors that are most demanding are the location where the RSI is to be performed and the age of the patient. The experience of the nurse anesthetist has a significant role in the extent to which the nurse anesthetist is affected by the various factors.
