Factors that can lead to work-related stress and illness among nurses : A literature study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Stress can lead to both physical and psychological problems such as pain in the back and shoulders, exhaustion, frustration, anxiety, and burnout. Stress and ill-health among nurses also endanger patient safety. As a result of the work-related stress, many nurses choose to leave their professions.

Aim: Illustrate work environment factors that lead to stress-related illness among nurses.

Method: A literature study in which eleven qualitative articles.

Findings: Two main themes emerged from the analysis; Increased work demands with lack of recovery and obstacles in surrounding organization with six sub themes.

Conclusion: Stress-related illness among nurses is a major problem. Through a deeper understanding of what the stress factors are, measures can be implemented in the workplace.
