This review article set the framework for dealing with Russophone cinema in Israel. It looks at postcommunism in the wake of Russia's war on Ukraine and what effect this has on studying contemporray Russian cinema. The article surveys also the key term of transnational cinema and how the term can be used in investigating cinemas on the periphery of mainsteam filmmaking. It briefly describe early Istaeli filmmaking and how Russian immigrants were part of establishing a film industry in Israel.
