Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Allergier bland barn är vanligt och då barn vistas stor del av sin tid i skolan är det viktigt att skolmiljön är anpassad för elever med allergier. Skolsköterskor besitter kunskap om faktorer som kan påverka hur allergiska symtom uppstår, och kan därmed arbeta förebyggande utifrån allergi.

Syfte: Att beskriva skolsköterskors erfarenheter av att arbeta med kvalitetsutveckling av skolmiljön för elever med allergier.

Metod: En induktiv ansats valdes. Ett strategiskt urval användes. Nio skolsköterskor deltog genom kvalitativa semi-strukturerade intervjuer. Datamaterialet analyserades med kvalitativ innehållsanalys.

Resultat: Temat Vara specialistkunnig men inte alltid nyttjas, innefattar tre kategorier; Hinder i det kvalitetsutvecklande arbetet, Konsulterad utifrån kompetens om allergier och Stå upp för elevers rättigheter framkom, samt sex underkategorier; Önskar utveckla sitt arbetssätt, Upplever sig motarbetad, Samarbete med vårdnadshavare och skolans personal, Meningsskiljaktigheter kring ansvar, Arbeta för elevers rätt till en säker och jämlik skola samt Skydda elevers autonomi och integritet.

Konklusion: Slutsatsen är att skolsköterskors önskar utveckla sitt förebyggande arbete gällande allergier, men hindras av för höga elevantal samt kunskapsbrist gällande skolsköterskors uppdrag hos övrig skolpersonal och vårdnadshavare.

Abstract [en]

Background: Allergies among children are common and as children spend much time in school, it is important that the school environment is adapted for pupils with allergies. School nurses possess knowledge of factors that can affect how allergic symptoms occur, and can thus work with prevention based on allergies.

Aim: To describe school nurses’ experiences of working with quality development work of the school environment for students with allergies.

Method: An inductive approach was chosen. A strategic selection was used. Nine school nurses participated through qualitative semi-structured interviews. The data material was analyzed with qualitative content analysis.

Results: The theme Be specialist but not always consulted, it includes three categories; Hindrances in the quality development work, Consulted based on competence in allergies and Stand up for students' rights emerged, as well as six subcategories; Wants to develop their way of working, Feels opposed, Cooperation with guardians and school staff, Disagreements about school nurses’ assignments, Work for students 'right to a safe and equal school and Protect students' autonomy and integrity.

Conclusion: School nurses wish to develop their prevention work regarding allergies, but are hindered by too many students and school staff’s and guardians’ lack of knowledge, regarding school nurses assignments.
