Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Prostatacancer är en av det vanligare cancerformer som drabbar män. Behandlingar som innefattar kirurgisk, cytostatisk, strål- och hormonbehandling orsakar lidande för männen. Sjuksköterskan har som skyldighet att vägleda, motivera och informera männen kring sin sjukdom. Metod: En litteraturstudie baserad på 12 artiklar med kvalitativ ansats. Syfte: att beskriva mäns erfarenheter av att leva med diagnostiserad prostatacancer. Resultat: Ur analysen identifierades två teman; förändrad vardag och på väg tillbaka med sex subtema. Konklusion: Männens upplevelser har varit desamma oavsett deras bakgrund. Erfarenheter har påvisat att stöttning från vårdpersonal var betydelsefull vid kontroll över sin hälsa.

Abstract [en]

Background: Prostate cancer is one of the more common cancers that affects men. Treatments that include surgical, cytostatic, radiation and hormone therapy cause suffering for men. The nurse has a duty to guide, motivate and inform men about their illness. Method: A litterature study based on 12 articles with qualitative approach. Aim: To examine mens’ experiences of living with diagnosed prostate cancer. Findings: From the analysis two themes were identified; changed everyday life and on the way back with six subthemes. Conclusion: Men's experiences have been the same regardless of their background. Experience has shown that support from healthcare professionals was important in controlling their health.
