To trust your heart: A literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death globaly. This Infarction is caused by atherosclerosis which creates an obstruction in the coronary arteries of the heart which leads to a lack of oxygen in the heart. There are different types of heart attacks and the symptoms differ between men and women and early treatment saves lives. Suffering from a heart attack affects the patient's health and creates suffering for the patient. Method: The study is a literature review of 16 scientific articles. Aim: The purpose of the study was to describe patients' experiences after a myocardial infarction. Findings: Two main themes emerged from the analysis; 1) Everyday life is limited and 2) interaction with the immediate surroundings with six subthemes. Under theme one, subthemes emerged; lack of motivation to change, unforeseen lack of energy and uncertain existence. Under theme two, the following subthemes emerged; The social network can both promote and alleviate, partners' crucial understanding and shortcomings in the follow-up after the care episode. Conclusion: Patients' experiences vary between those affected, but the conclusion was that life after amyocardial infarction had an impact both physically and mentally. The support from healthcare professionals was missing. There was hope that the heart school, now in it´s digital form, would satisfy the need for support.
