A hazardous tour : The intensive care nurse´s experience of transporting critically ill patient intrahospital (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Patients who is cared for in the intensive care unit often needs to carry out examinations or procedures that cannot be carried out in the intensive care unit. At these times, the patient needs to be transported intrahospital. Aim: The purpose of the degree project is to describe the intensive care nurse's experiences of transporting a seriously ill patient intrahospital. Method: Qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach based on qualitative interviews with intensive care nurses who have been involved in intrahospital transports. Results: The participants experienced ambivalent feelings regarding intrahospital transports. Some see it as fun and exciting while others see it as boring and difficult. It turns out that an intrahospital transport includes more than just the transport itself as it must be prepared before and prepared afterwards. What all participants agreed on was that they see intrahospital transport as a risk factor. Conclusion: Intrahospital transports are a risk factor that requires planning and preparation. It is important to have expertise, medicines and medical technical equipment with you during transport.
